The Iranians are currently losing on all fronts. Curious to see how long the regime in Tehran is going to tolerate Assad.

An intriguing observation has come to light. When the Iranian foreign minister's plane arrived in Damascus yesterday, officials from the Assad regime did not greet him at the bottom of the passenger stairs on the runway, which is quite unusual and deviates from standard protocol. This leads me to believe that there may be significant tensions brewing between Tehran and Assad behind the scenes. I sense that a rift between the two could occur at any time.

Assad was going to sell them out, uae was going to sponsor assad. :p

Why this offensive now when Hezbollah, Hamas fighting with Israel? No wonder why Hezbollah made a ceasefire because I think at this time this offensive benefits Israel since it could not get past the borders.

I am not a Bashar Assad supporter by any means but to me this only helps Israel at this time. A genocide is taking place in Gaza and the only people who stood up for a Palestinians and fought for Palestinians was Hezbollah.

I am a Sunni Palestinian by the way.
Regime and allies bombed and droned civilians in idlib in last couple pf months but did not get much cover due ongoing genocide, initially operation was planned for october but due turkish intervention it was stopped but once ceasefire in lebanon signed hts attacked without consulting with anyone.
You ask why now, sadly unified front for Palestine never existed and to many conflicts among arabs and muslims overlapped in recent history and this offensive indeed came in the worst possible moment.

Clashes between rebels and pro-Assad forces between Athriya and Khanaser

-

Wow, that's far in the East.
Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham and the National Liberation Front forces reached the outskirts of al-Rahjan and al-Sa'an in the eastern Hama countryside. The regime is trying to prevent the liberation of al-Rahjan and al-Sa'an to prevent cutting off the road to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards stationed in the Athriya area.

No CAS they are nothing, Russian fighters are less then 10 and not all off them are working. So HTS and SNA should not stop.

whats the amount of air assets that Russia has in Syria?

Old fighters rumors are 10 fighters and not all of them are working. They need ther airforce in Ukraine, they do not have much bombs to. I hope they brake to Damascus and bomb russian airbases.

Tell me then how do they run over syrian regime? if this goes like this 2 week max Damascus will be done.
If this is your understanding of the war, then well, I am simply saying given the sorties of the RuAF in the past few days , it is impossible of only less than 10 planes stationed in Syria as per you.

Indonesia - President Suharto resigns

BOGOR, KOMPAS.com - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono hopes that Bashar al-Assad will be willing to step down as President of Syria. Basrah's resignation was judged to be able to stop the growth of blood and conflict in Syria.

"It is expected that there will be one process of political transition so that other leaders are born that can be accepted by the Syrian people and love their people," said Presidential Spokesman Julian Aldrin Pasha after a meeting between the President and the clerics at the Bogor Palace, West Java, Monday (7/1/2013).

The scholars present, namely Shaykh Muhammad Ali Ash-Shobuni (Syria), Ahmad Mujahid Bin Muhammad Ali Ash-Shobuni (Saudi Arabia), H. Kechik (Malaysia), H. Salin Hasan Barakwan (Indonesia), Nopel Abdullah Al-Kaff (Indonesia), Abbas (Indonesia), and Ustadz Kamal Hasan (Indonesia).

Julian said, if there is no political transition, President Yudhoyono fears Syria will be destroyed. In fact, Syria is one of the centers of Islamic civilization in the world. The president also hopes that humanitarian aid to Syria continues to be carried out, even to be improved.

“The president has spoken to the UN Secretary-General, has spoken also with the Turkish Prime Minister, the President of Iran, and the leader of Pakistan to find the best solution to save Syria from the present conditions, stop the conflict there and restore Syria.

We are also interested in safeguarding the highly developed and old Islamic civilization there," Julian said.

As reported, UN data, the Syrian conflict has reportedly killed more than 60,000 people since violence emerged in March 2011. The death toll was much higher than the latest estimate reported by President Bashar al-Assad's anti-regime human rights activist, who called 45,000 dead.

The hope to find a peaceful solution in Syria is getting thinner after the talks of U.N. and Arab League envoy Lakhdar Bramini, with Russian Foreign Minister Sergie Lavtrov, in Russia in late December 2012 ended without a sign of meaningful progress.
