If that airbase fall, Russian force will have to either go ground or leave Syria altogether.
That base lies at the coast, if it felt to SDF, it will effectively cut Syria in half, and Syrian government will lose control of the north half.
That will make Russian position untenable in Syria, because they would not have coast control in Syria, they can't support their force in Syria.
Which is actually a big irony actually, as Russia invested significantly in Air Defence in the area, imagining a US/Israeli led air campaign scenario, and ignore the ground defences, but now was threaten by a force without air force......
