Turkish Air Defence Programs

and no Air Superiority over Iranian airspace, they were still being contested and couldn't fly over without the threat of air defense.
Is that why US and Israeli aircraft was flying over Iran?

They are not though, thats the point. They are using standoff strikes. Thats why their missiles are running low. Their hope was to do SEAD/DEAD enough so that they could use aircraft to drop gravity bombs, but that time never came, b/c Iran was able to pose enough of a threat where they couldn't fly without being fired at, so they stayed at standoff range.

But they did manage to do it last June.

Do what? Drop graving bombs over uncontested airspace?
If you google "did US and Israeli Air Force gain control of Iranian skies",you'll get a surprising answer. Although it then becomes a question of sources.

that was mostly in the early weeks of the war and some limited strikes afterwards. The iranians have no meaningful ad systems left only manpads and other short range systems. But overall they have secured the airspace hell even the israeli airforce did that in their own operation back in 2025. Also Centcom is known for wasting munitions when it has other options.

I was following this conflict indepth foinikas, I don't need an AI to give half assed answers.

On this element, what does someone mean by "gain control", because these planes were not uncontested. There are various degrees when measuring such things.

LevelTermWhat it means
1Air denialYou cannot control the air, but you can make it difficult/dangerous for the enemy to use it
2Contested airspaceBoth sides can operate, but neither has reliable control
3Local air superiorityYou have the advantage in a particular area/time
4Air superiorityYour air force can conduct operations with manageable interference from enemy air forces
5Air supremacyEnemy air forces are effectively incapable of meaningful interference
Air dominanceOften used to describe overwhelming control; in some doctrinal contexts it is essentially equivalent to, or stronger than, superiority/supremacy

It didn't really really reach Level 4 IMO, as the Iranians were able to hit aircraft even the F-35 with IRST based ground SHORADS. Able to prevent A-10s doing CAS, and managed to shoot down various drones.

I wonder what F-22 Raptor would say about this

The raptor is not optimized for an Air to Ground role. Iran didn't use its air force much in aerial battles which would have required the raptor. Mostly an F-35 and F-15 from the USAF and USN F-18 war.

Roketsan CİRİT Anti-UAV System is highly effective against kamikaze Drones

Kamikaze Drones represent one of the most severe and rapidly evolving tactical threats to modern Armies

Russia's recent inability to fully protect its oil refineries, military bases, and even Moscow itself from kamikaze drone attacks deep within its own territory stems from the helplessness of modern air defense doctrines against asymmetric warfare.

It was specifically designed to provide a cost-effective, mobile air defense shield on the modern battlefield

ROKETSAN had signed a Memorandum of Understanding in June last year to integrate the CİRİT Anti-UAV system into the remote-controlled weapon stations of Spain's EM&E Group during the Eurosatory Fair held in Paris.

The US and its Allies are using $500,000 AIM-9X air to air Missiles to shoot down a $20,000-$30,000 Iranian Shahed-136 kamikaze Drone in the Middle East

The CİRİT Missile can hit a $30,000 Shahed missile at a much lower cost ( $10.000 - 12.000 )

Israel's Tamir missile/Iron Dome is the world's most famous example in the category of cost-effective air defense missiles. Its unit cost is around $40,000

Iranian Shahed-136 kamikaze Drone : $20,000-$30,000

Israel's Tamir missile/Iron Dome : $40,000

Turkish CIRIT Missile : $10,000-$12,000 ...... ( around $20,000 for export )

They can easily increase the number of missile launch cells per vehicle to 8. As 4 is too less.

The UK beat has its own APKWS missile missile which has been combat tested in UAE recently.

Greek defence sites have been mentioning for some years now about how useful the APKWS are against drone threats,as a cost effective solution. Very useful and worth getting!
