What - £12 billion for 40 units ? Even accounting for training, logistics and spare, that is a crazy amount?

Yes.Typo - corrected. That still comes out at £300m per unit ….
This is in line with other EFT contracts, does not seem unreasonable or extreme.

Particularly the tranche 4's, Remember, its a completely new platform

2- "Dorsal Fin" also lowered and has a flatter and smaller design

3- Cockpit significantly lowered

4- Forward fuselage (nose) upper part has a straight line

5- Engine air intake enlarged

6- "Wing to fuselage fairing" design has grown significantly

It was the best decision to stay away...
We are still very divided about this. There are people who love it and fanatically support it as a superweapon and the others hate it and call it a bucket,a tin can,a failed project etc.

F35 is a fighter what means you will be a part off American Geopolitics, it can be a good fighter but as you can see Trump is going to use it against you when the time is right. :p

But that's the question,is it really a good fighter or is it just a problematic project. So far only the Israelis are supposedly using it wth good results and then again we haven't seen any real proof of it either.

Its very capable, but very flawed depending on what you want to do with it, the leash is strong. You need codes from Lockheed to operate it for missions. It spies on you and sends the data back to Lockheed. And apparently it can be remotely disabled.

All in all, its a very capable platform, but with regards to sovereignty over it and wishing to do what you wish with it, is not really possible without US approval. For some people it works, for others its an issue.. If you are the Israelis you already own the US politicians so you will be able to do whatever you want. And for people who are client states of Washinton who obey everything told to them and don't act outside of it, that works too. But for others, who want to be able to do what they want at their own discretion, this might create issues..
