Turkish Air Force | News & Discussions

Apart from the fact that the Qatari fighters are practically new,

Its insane to even call them "used", Qatar received its first eurofighter on August 15, 2022. The oldest plane is 3 years old. And given that its Qatar, I doubt they were used at all given they don't really deploy anywhere outside of limited air patrols over Doha.

Qatar is doing Turkey another solid by giving Turkey its place in the queue for the current Eurofighter T4s that are currently being built, that are set to be delivered, on top of the less than 3 years old Eurofighters.

it is a shame for Turkey to get used Fighters from anybody, cold war era is gone long time ago.we need to stick our own , first with drones later with Kaan

It’s obviously a reaction to immediate potential threats. Like @Eşbah said, much better that they are pro-active.

It's a good opportunity for the Turks, Qataris, and Omanis to get rid of them.
According to a Military Watch Magazine report,

Qatar Trying to Sell Off Eurofighters Just Three Years After They Arrived
While the Eurofighter 3A is a significantly superior fighter to the outdated F-16 variants currently being grounded by Turkey, the aircraft is significantly less capable than Qatar's advanced F-15QA fighters, and in many respects even less capable than the Rafale.
Oman, which also wants to buy the Rafale, also wants to get rid of it.
The Turkish Ministry of Defense is reportedly seeking to purchase less capable Eurofighters from Oman, and possibly acquire new aircraft.
Thus, the Turks have an opportunity to buy fighters that Gulf countries are desperate to get rid of. They could acquire them at a lower price, while the other Gulf countries focus their attention on higher-end aircraft.

Qatar Emiri Air Force Eurofighter in Turkey

The Qatar Emiri Air Force is seeking to retire its 24 Eurofighters from service, just three years after they began deliveries to the country in 2022. The Defence Ministry ordered Eurofighter Tranche 3A variants which are significantly more advanced than those fielded by the European partner states that developed the aircraft, and integrate the new Captor-E active electronically scanned array radar. Talks have been held to sell the fighters to Turkey, which has struggled to modernise its fleet due to ongoing disputes with the United States that led to its expulsion from the F-35 program. The Qatari Defence Ministry ordered the Eurofighter, the French Rafale and the American F-15QA in parallel, with analysts widely concurring that the decision to split orders between the three aircraft was intended to strengthen ties with a greater number of suppliers, at the expense of causing significant inefficiencies within the fleet.

While the Eurofighter Tranche 3A is a significantly superior fighter to the obsolete F-16 variants that Turkey currently fields, the aircraft is significantly less capable than Qatar’s cutting edge F-15QA fighters, and in many respects also less capable to its Rafales. The Eurofighter’s combat capabilities have been widely criticised, with the program failing to secure any sales outside the Gulf region, other than a small early sale to Austria, while its performance in exercises has reportedly left much to be desired particularly compared to American fighter types such as the F-18E/F and F-15, and moreso the F-35A. The fighter has accordingly lost every tender in which it has competed against the F-35, while consistently being ranked behind the F-15 and F-18 by clients such as South Korea and Finland.

The Turkish Defence Ministry is reportedly seeking to procure further less capable Eurofighters from Oman, and possibly to acquire new aircraft. This would mark a significant boost to the program, particularly as the United Kingdom has ceased further procurements to focus funding on the F-35, while Germany which has faced significant industry pressure not to abandon the Eurofighter, has divided procurement funding between it and the more capable American aircraft. Turkey’s relatively poor relations with France and inability to order American fighters, and its status as a core member of NATO which prevent it from considering non-Western alternatives, have provided it with little choice other than the Eurofighter, providing the program with a rare opportunity for sales in a market where its competitors are absent.

The Sultanate of Oman found it a great opportunity to get rid of it and buy 24 Rafale F.43

Historically, the Turks are the largest buyers of used Phantom aircraft from the United States and Germany. Of the 233 Phantoms they have acquired, only 72 were new, while the rest were used.

They also purchased used F-5 fighters from the Netherlands.

Turkey expanded its F-5 fleet with the acquisition of NF-5A/B aircraft from the Royal Netherlands Air Force.

As for the F-104 fighter,

Turkey has received over 400 Starfighters from various sources.

The Turks purchased 40 new fighters, while the rest were disposed of by the Americans and Europeans.

In general, acquiring used fighters is better than acquiring nothing at all, and Türkiye is accustomed to this.

Where is this nonsense that its less than Rafale coming from? Qatar is not getting rid of Eurofighters b/c its not a capable aircraft, its b/c #1 they have more aircraft than they need, operating F-15s, Rafales and Eurofighters. And also b/c Tamim is doing Turkey a solid. Turkey is a very important country for Qatar and vice versa, Qatar has invested heaving in Turkey, especially in investments in the Turkish defense sector, providing cash to get the Altay factory built via they BMC investment. They rely on Turkey for protection, when Turkey built a base there and supported them during the blakcade.

These are good planes and IMO more capable even, compared to the Rafale, though they are matched very well. The AESA radar on the Eurofighter is one of the best, if not the best on any 4+ gen plane.

Yeah its likely for training but I think they can also be upgraded possibly especially with Turkish kits.

The UK declared those planes economically unviable for upgrades since they are so different internationally from subsequent blocks. Will be interesting to see how Turkish industry can create a cost effective upgrade. They are worth it as they are imho.

First of all, try to be more polite and convincing. Don't be like an angry child who has no ability to understand or respond. You are defending yourself without reading, and perhaps without understanding, because if you had even a shred of understanding, you would have known that the person who mentioned this was a Military Watch Magazine report. It is the one that classified the Eurofighter as inferior, and this is natural because its electronic equipment is weaker, and at the same time, it has no combat record to support the nonsense you are saying. You should criticize those countries that got rid of it and found a customer forced to buy it. The Turks would not have bought the Rafale even if they had the slightest opportunity, but your words are different. The other point is that the Sultanate of Oman is moving to get rid of the Eurofighter Typhoon and negotiating to purchase the Rafale, which shows that your opinion is nonsense in and of itself. I don't know the level of confidence with which you speak, although things are clearer. If the Eurofighter Typhoon, after years of experience, had been of any value, they would not have gotten rid of it. Even the British themselves are getting rid of the T1 versions. Third, despite the fact that the Turks are accustomed to purchasing used aircraft, as I explained, and that they have no choice but to import used aircraft from various countries, the Turkish Air Force's development program is faltering, regardless of the frequently repeated propaganda and rhetoric. The Greeks have upgraded their F-16 fighter jets to the F-16 Block 70 level, and have received 24 Rafale F-3 fighters and 10 M346 aircraft, all equipped with AESA radars. Meanwhile, everyone is treating the Turkish F-16 fighters as inferior. The F-16V contract failed after the Americans refused to supply the F-110 engine for the CAN project. Even the new Eurofighter Typhoon fighters have an annual production rate of 14, and there are Spanish and German requests. Therefore, the Turks will have to wait years, perhaps until 2031, to receive new fighters. The negotiations with the Americans are the same. The Americans are manipulating you, and you will not have fighters until many years later. Therefore, no negotiations have succeeded except in the imaginations of some of you. In words, there is another kind of cleverness. You talk about future specifications that have not been produced and do not exist, and you claim superiority. You are never superior to illusions and dreams. You always claim that you are the best and the strongest and that you possess the best, but the facts are something completely different. Disasters will befall you, and the results of the Israeli strikes against you in Syria, against Syrian airports. Your strikes are not far away, not even the strike against Al-Watiyah. These are the facts. What is very shameful is that the bottom line is that you go and criticize Military Watch Magazine and criticize the Sultanate of Oman and Qatar because they are getting rid of the Typhoon for the first person who knocks on their door. I am happy that you will get these aircraft, better than the F-4, which has been in service for 50 years.

Turkish Air Force gets 4 ASOJ-23A stand off
Enough with this

That's the problem @Sami_1 highlights in his post. The constant "we are best, nobody else can" mentality here. Get it in your head,it's tiresome. And this isn't just a complaint,it's also advice. Understand that this narrative, this mentality becomes tiresome.

Alright then you don't f*ing need Eurofighter, you're already sufficient and unbeatable.

Exactly,not yet.

You've been spamming lists of potential upgrades and potential weapons,oh it will have this,oh it will have that,oh OZGUR-2 TO BE BETTER THAN F-16V

And it all comes down to one phrase: "Not yet"

Like the Arabs say:

"3ndama"
