Turkish Defence Industry - Exports & News

Ukraine is blackbox we can not see, maybe when the war is over they will share it. But for now Nigeria is second place. the article said that they will get more drones, so Akinci or TB3 maybe.

“Their winging is a morale booster and confirms their certification to fly and maintain the Turkish Berakta TB2 drones in our inventory. The Nigerian Army plans to procure additional unmanned aerial systems in the coming year to enhance its operations across all theatres,”
They use TB2s in 9/11 style suicide missions:

It looks like the TB2, but are they actually using TB2s or a similar looking drone? that TB2 configuration with the inverted V tail has become quite popular with other drones as well.. Seems like a bit of a waste to use an actual TB2 for this task. lol

These attacks seem very ineffective. Ukraine can't produce ballistic missiles? Do you know which is more cost effective?

They should look to develop their own industries where the product will be cheaper to produce locally rather than importing and is within their capabilities, this in particular applies to consumeables products like rockets, bombs, missiles. eg lessons from Ukraine-Russia war.

They should look to form partnerships with Turkey where they need collaboration to produce the products they need, that Turkey also needs, ie share R&D costs and manufacturing infrastructure. eg BVR missiles between Pakistan and Turkey amongst other things.

Finally, if the product is completly outside of their capabilities for a decade or 2, then sure - they should buy off the shelf from Turkey eg something like the Kaan, HAVASOJ, and then in parallel work out what is required to build those systems at home where it will be cheaper and will provide local employment for the next round of procurements.

This is the approach that Pakistan seems to be following right now, and is the correct one.

Totally agree on not buying USA systems, the world has for the most part, moved on from needing to do that.

Or start to form partnerships, even if it just just assembly from knockdown kits at first.

Sorry to say this but without growth in the Pakistani civilian economy and hence its technological base, then sophisticated complete weapons systems like fighters and destroyers will be out of its reach forever.

Muslim nations cannot expect single countries like Turkey, Iran and Indonesia to have the technological and financial resources to compete with west and China in the highest end complete weapons systems.

Even European countries have been collaborating of joint development and production on complex systems like fighters and warships for decades.

I don't know about Iran and sanctions but if a semi-competitive military product is available from either Turkey or Indonesia and it will slot into the existing military eco-system, then Muslim states should buy from those countries.

The Saudis could buy up to 100 KAAN fighter jets. There has yet to be any official confirmation regarding this news. Nevertheless, a senior Saudi delegation is currently in Turkiye for a three-day visit.

Really hope there is some substance to this.

Only by Muslim countries working together and collaborating can Muslims rise from the current nadir they have fallen into.

Not sure whether Turkey would be willing to accept "funding partners" like advanced upfront R&D payments in return to early access to the aircraft when it is in mass production. This aircraft could easily cost Turkey 20 billion US dollars or more to develop.

NEW: Turkish aerospace company Baykar acquires Italian aviation icon Piaggio

AerospaceItaly’s Ministry of Enterprises has approved the sale of 140-year-old aviation giant Piaggio Aerospace to Baykar, the world’s largest UCAV producer. Baykar outbid international rivals to secure this historic deal. Known for its P.180 Avanti jets and strategic defense contributions, Piaggio’s legacy will now thrive under Baykar’s ambitious vision, expanding its production capacity and preserving its heritage. Baykar dominates 60% of the global UAV export market, delivering cutting-edge drones to 35 countries. This acquisition further solidifies Türkiye’s leadership in the global aviation industry.

Its a wait and see affair. Its not a given that Saudi will go with the KAAN. They are exploring their options and preliminary talks are being held.

There is British GCAP competition. And possibly even from China and the J-35, although I think less so from China probably, due to Saudi preferring NATO compatible aircraft/weaponry like the rest of their fleet, and the J-35 being a light/medium fighter, vs the KAAN which is a heavy fighter.

This is a very interesting acquisition, I didn't see it coming, wonder what Baykar has planned. Are they planning on entering commercial aviation? or are they doing it to acquire engineering capital.

Piaggio i love it motorscooters, this aerospace company is not that big. Makes light transport and bussines aircraft. Lets see what they want to achieve with it.

400 Kizilelmas. It would be crazy if this is actually true.

Its not even ready yet, and we have heard from many sources trying to acquire. Kizilelma might really just be Baykar's Kizilelma. Not many people have a drone in development of this caliber.
