Today marks the 42nd death anniversary of the renowned Urdu poet and prose writer, Josh Malihabadi, also known as the 'Poet of Revolution'. Born Shabbir Hassan Khan, he hailed from a lineage of esteemed poets, including his father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Josh Malihabadi commenced his poetic journey at a young age and later engaged in practical endeavors at Dar-ul-Tarjuma Usmania in Hyderabad State.

His outspoken stance against the Hyderabad system led to the loss of his job and citizenship, prompting his relocation to Delhi, where he established the magazine 'Kaleem' and contributed to All India Radio. He furthered his literary pursuits in Pakistan, collaborating on the Urdu dictionary with Maulvi Abdul Haque and editing 'Urdu Nama' magazine.

Josh Malihabadi's versatility extended to songwriting for films, notable among them being 'Ae Watan Hum Hain Teri Shama Ke Parwanon Main' for the film 'Aag Ka Darya'. He also penned columns for the daily Jang under the title of 'Ilm wa Fikr'.

Among his significant poetic works are 'Rooh-e-Adab', 'Shaer ki Raatain', 'Naqsh o Nigar', and 'Fikr o Nishat', while his prose contributions include 'Maqalat-e-Zarrin' and 'Jazbaat-e-Fitrat'. His impactful legacy earned him the Padma Bhushan Award in 1954 and posthumously the Hilal Imtiaz in 2013. Josh Malihabadi passed away on this day in 1982 at the age of 83 in Islamabad.

Iqbal wala hissa to lajawab tha
