US - Pakistan relationship

Pakistan has called for the launch of a high-level economic dialogue with the United States at the earliest and urged a shift in bilateral engagement from geopolitics to geoeconomics during a series of meetings between the country’s envoy Rizwan Saeed Sheikh and senior members of Congress.

Meeting House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Brian Mast and House Armed Services Committee Chairman Mike Rogers, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the US said 2026 should be treated as a “year of action” to translate shared intentions into concrete economic cooperation.

Ecomically we have nothing to offer to the US except for "potential ".

New Heights in Pak-US ties

The United States and Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement reached new heights after US President Donald Trump helped broker a ceasefire between Pakistan and India during their brief war.

Since then, leaders from both nations have exchanged cordial gestures and praised each other’s leadership on international platforms. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif even nominated President Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of his mediation efforts.

Trump, in turn, frequently appreciated Prime Minister Shehbaz and Pakistan’s military leadership, notably describing Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir as his “favourite Field Marshal.”

Building on the positive momentum, Islamabad now seeks to translate the goodwill into tangible economic benefits by pursuing a more favourable trade agreement with Washington — including concessions on tariffs and expanded market access for Pakistani exports.

In October last year, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that the US saw an opportunity to strengthen its strategic relationship with Pakistan as part of a broader, pragmatic foreign policy approach.

Rubio said New Delhi understands that the US must engage with multiple partners to pursue common interests.

“We see an opportunity to expand our strategic relationship with Pakistan, and that’s our job — to find as many countries as we can work with on things of common interest,” Rubio said.

“The Indians are very mature when it comes to diplomacy. They have relationships with countries we don’t, and we have some they don’t. That’s part of a mature, pragmatic foreign policy,” he added.

Rubio emphasised that the growing engagement with Pakistan does not come at the expense of Washington’s 'deep, historic, and important' friendship with India. He described both relationships as vital to maintaining regional stability and advancing US strategic interests in South Asia.

What else is Rubio supposed to say? Everyone knows India offers better $ potentials to America then Pakistan does. However, Rubio did not say those hyped up things about India-America which we saw for a quarter century starting with Bill Clinton 2000. You know, 'the defining alliance of the 21st century' etc etc. The relationship between India and America is certainly the worst in a quarter century and I bet Indians can't wait to see the back of President Trump and thus Indians are generally taking his abuse of India to bide their time.
As for Pakistan-America, everyone knows the relationship is transaction based and probably won't last for long, but every Pakistani also knows 'Make hay, while the sun shines'. And in that vein, if Pakistan is actually able to upgrade its F-16s, as per the reported deal of nearly $700 million, then a big gain for Pakistan.

I don't think there is a US-Pakistan relationship.

There is a US deep state/pentagon to Pakistan General staff relationship. Which is very transactional in nature and has been used by a very small vested interest cohort in Pakistan to maintain their personal preservation in Pakistan and enrichment abroad.

Whenever Pakistan has started to move away from US orbit of influence due to our lack of utility, something or the other geopolitically happens that brings Pakistan back into the limelight.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and the United States on Saturday agreed to enhance collaboration in bilateral security and border management.

The agreement was reached as Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi held a meeting with a high-level US delegation led by US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker.

The meeting featured in-depth deliberation on boosting relations between the two countries and expanding cooperation in shared areas of interest.

It was mutually agreed to further strengthen existing cooperation with the US Anti-terrorism Assistance Programme and the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs.

During the meeting, matters relating to the establishment of a centre for crime and an academy within the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) with US support also came under review.

The delegation also discussed training programmes for officers of the FIA, Federal Constabulary and the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA).

‎It was also agreed that border security agencies, coastal guards and other institutions would be equipped with modern US-supplied equipment.

Naqvi stated that modern technology would enhance the capacity of border security agencies and coastal guards.

He also welcomed US assistance in the reorganisation of the Federal Constabulary and in strengthening the capabilities of the FIA and the NCCIA. He added that US support in activating FIA’s counterterrorism wing would prove highly beneficial, making it the first federal anti-terrorist wing with effective coordination with provinces.

‎Naqvi said that the NCCIA was carrying out an extensive crackdown on illegal call centres across the country. He noted that advanced software was vital for preventing financial fraud and terror financing, and US cooperation with the NCCIA in this regard was highly significant.

The minister emphasised the need to further expand collaboration with Pakistani institutions. Meanwhile, the US delegation appreciated Pakistan’s efforts to increase security cooperation and strengthen bilateral ties.

Baker acknowledged the ongoing collaboration between the Ministry of Interior and US agencies at various levels and reaffirmed that efforts would continue to further enhance the partnership with Pakistan.

Indian obsession with Pakistan continues.

They are unable to digest the US pivot towards Pakistan. This Indian bloc in the US is an issue.

Unfortunately we have Pakistanis in the US who have been bad mouthing their country. Atleast Indians know how to protect their interests. Foolish Pakistanis.

But this won't change the fact that US no longer sees the subcontinent from an Indian centric POV and investment will be coming to Pakistan and will continue to accelerate as the Pakistani economy matures.
