US - Pakistan relationship

In the meeting, the US official strongly condemned the recent terrorist attacks in Islamabad and Quetta and expressed condolences to the families of the victims.

Both sides discussed Pakistan–US bilateral relations, the regional security situation, and ways to further strengthen cooperation in counterterrorism, particularly in the domain of internal security, the release stated.

"Global cooperation is essential in the fight against terrorism, and relations with the United States are of key importance in this regard," Naqvi was quoted as saying.

He welcomed US interest in investing in Pakistan’s key economic sectors and reaffirmed Islamabad’s commitment to global partnerships aimed at eliminating terrorism and promoting sustainable economic growth, the statement added

Pomeroy said Washington attaches great importance to its relationship with Pakistan and remains committed to working closely with Islamabad on shared security and economic priorities, the statement concluded.

Previously, Pakistan has signed a memorandum of understanding with a US firm to develop critical minerals, including antimony, copper, gold and tungsten. The agreement is intended to enhance Pakistan’s role in the global supply chain for materials essential to energy, defence and advanced manufacturing.

In addition, the United States has earmarked $13 billion for the Reko Diq copper-gold mining project, one of Pakistan’s largest undeveloped mineral ventures. The funding is expected to support mining operations and associated infrastructure development.

Pakistan and the United States have agreed to enhance cooperation in counterterrorism and promote investment in the mining, minerals, and energy sectors, according to an official statement issued by the federal government on Thursday.

The understanding was reached during a meeting between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, and US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs John Mark Pomeroy. US Ambassador to Pakistan Natalie Baker was also present on the occasion
This why the US likes Pakistani dictatorships and hybrid regimes. A lollipop like this picture alone is enough to satisfy cheap insecure Pakistani regimes.

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb on Saturday said he will travel to the United States next week to advance economic engagement, as Pakistan reassesses its trade positioning following recent agreements between New Delhi and Washington, with Bangladesh also reaching an understanding with Washington, which has unsettled local industry.

“I am leaving for the United States next week; all your recommendations in terms of how we need to further negotiate with the US will be discussed,” he said, while addressing industrialists at Pakistan’s Economic Growth and Stability program at the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI) Regional Office, Lahore.

“We totally aligned with your ask,” he said, while urging the local industry to review the revenue model and improve productivity.

“We are in a new world order.”

The United States remains Pakistan’s largest single-country export destination, accounting for 18% of total exports—or approximately $5.8 billion—during FY2024-25, according to FBR data.

ISLAMABAD: United States Chargé d’Affaires (CDA) Natalie A. Baker hosted a webinar on Thursday to connect 25 representatives from American information and communication technology (ICT) companies with senior Pakistani government officials and explore attractive business opportunities in the country's fast growing IT sector.

A press release from the embassy said several officials joined the webinar to discuss investment opportunities, regulatory frameworks and partnership potential in Pakistan’s ICT sector.

In her remarks, Baker said, “The US mission in Pakistan is committed to fostering strong economic ties between the two countries.”

She added, “We believe that by working together, we can unlock the full potential of Pakistan’s IT sector, create new opportunities for American businesses, and contribute to Pakistan’s economic development.”

She said the US embassy and consulates were here to support American companies, as they navigated the Pakistani market, by connecting them with local partners and ensuring they had the resources and information needed to succeed.

“We are committed to facilitate investment, promote trade, and advocate for policies to improve the business environment,” she said.

The webinar highlighted growth opportunities in cloud computing, data centres, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence — key areas where US companies offer proven expertise and innovation.

During the webinar, Pakistani officials outlined government initiatives to advance digital policies, expand broadband connectivity, promote technology parks and support innovation through regulatory reforms and incentives.

Baker also emphasised the timeliness of strengthening US-Pakistan technology cooperation, saying, “This year in the US, we are celebrating America’s 250th anniversary, which presents us with an opportunity to celebrate American innovation and leadership in the technology sector.”

The press release said the technology sector exemplified US ingenuity and leadership, which the Freedom 250 celebration honoured.

The webinar was part of the ‘Direct Line’ for American businesses programme, which provides the US businesses with direct access to foreign government officials and market experts, facilitating informed decision-making about international business opportunities.

US President Donald Trump on Thursday promised $10 billion and Muslim-majority nations offered funding and troops for Gaza at the inaugural Board of Peace meeting in Washington.

Pakistan, however, was not named among the five nations who have committed troops for the International Stabilisation Force, which will be tasked with securing reconstruction zones and supporting a post-conflict governance arrangement in Gaza.

Trump brought together allies from around the world — many authoritarians, with few Western democrats who traditionally ally with the United States — to hail his peacemaking at the first Board of Peace meeting.

Presiding with a gavel over the meeting in the gleaming Washington building of the former US Institute of Peace, which has been gutted and renamed after the 79-year-old Republican, Trump hailed the “powerful people” who joined his board.

“We will help Gaza. We will straighten it out. We’ll make it successful,” Trump said, holding up a document with pledges before the disco beats of his adopted theme-song “YMCA” came on the speakers.

“We will make it peaceful, and we will do things like that in other spots. Spots will come up, things will happen,” Trump said.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif came in for praise while attending the inaugural summit of the the "Board of Peace" to deliberate on issues related to Gaza as Pakistan has denied that it will join the International Stabilisation Force to demilitarise Hamas.

Various other world leaders, along with United States President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance, are attending the event.

Addressing the event, Trump again praised PM Shehbaz. "I like this guy," he said while recounting the events that led to the ceasefire after last year's conflict between Pakistan and India in May. Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of the Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir was also praised by the US president.

"Prime Minister Sharif, I like this man. There was some fighting going on when I got to know him and your field marshal — great, great general; great guy. I got to meet the prime minister and h e said in front of our Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, he said: 'Do you know no body knows but I believe that President Trump saved 25 millions lives when he stopped the war between us and India.' You made that statement," he said while addressing the premier.

Referring to the active conflict at the time, he said: "Pakistan and India; I got on the phone with both of them and I knew them a little bit, actually I knew PM Modi very well. I got to know Pakistan through a little trade, they were trying to make too good a deal and I got a little upset with them and in the end they got what they wanted and I made a good deal and I got to like them — the prime minister, the field marshal, who is a tough man, a good serious fighter and I like good fighters actually."
