US Perspective on the Iran - Israel / US War

Any thoughts? On how can Trump have a plan to exit the war when he did not even a plan to enter the war 😢
I don't know how Trump is going to exit the war. I don't think even Trump himself knows how he is going to back out of this quagmire, but as far as I see it, there are only 3 ways to end this for him and fix the Hormuz.

1.) Go full on with a ground-based invasion, capture half or all of the Iranian coast, and its islands. That way, you physically take the Strait from Iran, which would mean decades of war, and Trump most definitely needs Congress to agree to it; well, good luck

2.) Set up some exclusion zone in the area to protect the shipping transiting out of the strait, and then unilaterally pull back; it is possible to man the Khasab or Dahit and open a small corridor of shipping lane hugging the coast around the strait. The US had enough troops and assets in the area to hold down the shipping lanes. The downside is this is quite a shallow waterway, which means you probably are not going to get the big ship moving, which means either the US is going to need to protect it or have them exposed to attack. This is the middle ground solution. You don't need to end the war; S trait can be open (to small traffic), and you would have enough troops to pull it out without international help.

3.) End the war, then seek a UNSC resolution like they are currently talking about. Have the UN assemble an DEFENSIVE Escort fleet, either physically escort the ship out with its usual waterway, or force Iran to concede. This is the best of all 3 solutions, however, Trump would have to pull out before a UN fleet would be inserted in the area, and that mean the US won't be able to stop Iran from further their nuclear and ballistic missile capability, which is 2 of the main things in the US strategic goal, which essentially mean America lost this war. This would require the UN (namely France, Russia, and China) not to veto the proposal, and they already said they won't even look at it while the war is still on. If the UN thing is a bust, Trump may ask NATO for assistance, but it will be the same outcome; the US would need to end the war first, then a NATO floatilla would be inserted.

These are the only ways to end this, as far as I can see.

Look at the resume of some of the people given the sack. What a waste of human capital.

Each a leader and a seasoned expert... Disaster.
That's going to eat into the credibility of the JCOS team.

Our military system is designed for a reason, because it's based on a civilian command structure and the senior military advisor in an advisory role. So we don't turn into a "Yes man" system.

This type of Purge would mean you either with me, or you can go take a hike, that's undercutting the decades of command experience, instead of depending on a POTUS who had no military experience and a SecDef that had not even commanded a division (Hell, I probably have more combat experience than Hegthseth)

What we did in Iran should NOT have happened at all if the civilian command structure were competent. Because when an O-3 like me can tell you what's wrong, you bet an O-8 will know and will advise against it, which means the reason this is going ahead is either that the civilian command structure didn't care about this, or they managed to find some JSOC "yes man" to indulge in their fantasy.

Just amazed at how far the US military has fallen.

Beautiful post, sad but true.

If the US packs up and goes home after creating this bloody mess, it’s the end of the myth of American military supremacy. I believe you are correct USA is keeping its options open. USA wouldn’t be mobilising ground troops if it was planning to withdraw. Even if( Trump) doesn’t know what he will do tomorrow. US military tactics will of course always have to keep its enemies guessing.

WITHDRAWAL Is not a solution… the war will continue 😔

You're selling Trump short. He's got plenty of military experience back from Nam. They don't call him Agent Orange for nothing.

So - Instagram is telling that Hegseth has removed 24 Generals and Admirals in total so far. If true, truly shocking to gut out that amount of senior command experience. Does not bode well for the Armed Forces of the USA, with the "culture and resentment" in the forces with that level of change done that way.

Trump and GOP can simply ignore this law like they have been ignoring many other laws. Who is going to hold Trump accountable ? With extensive gerrymandering and the reduction of politics to a team sport, it's hard to hold legislators accountable as well. Welcome to illiberal democracy.
Be honest. Both sides do it.

Seems like he is also using the war to purge the old guard. This may be a preparation for a more aligned military. Also destroying infrastructure is actually about disrupting supply lines against a ground war. If you ignore everything Trump has been saying and look at the US strategy so far it has been to soften up ground logistics and reduce capacity for agile response. If there is a ground invasion I suspect the plan will be to occupy territory and entrench. With overwhelming air superiority favoring the US the plan would be to create an assymetric attrition dynamic. What protects Iran from this is their missile and drone capacity that neutralizes this approach. I am pretty sure plans of occupying the underground missile cities to offset this risk have been floated. Regardless ground troops will not move in until missile strike capacity has been significantly neutralized.
Nothing new. Obama did the same thing.
