US Perspective on the Iran - Israel / US War

Just checked Iranian FM is in US.
W t F ?
Iranian leadership has really lost their mind . Shows you how desperately they need a deal while some random lull from mrasi-pur was telling us Iran is winning.

Except this time unlike in the past, there'll be no spa days or shopping on 5th avenue

Snakes are a hard no for me. Everything else I can deal with.

Made easily a hundred trips to Florida. Never once to Orlando.

Went to Orlando in my teens. Destination: Disneyland, Epcot Centre & Universal Studios. As a grown-up, I would love to revisit them, but also add Miami to my itinerary, cause that seems like one of the most grown-up places on the East Coast. Conditioned not to encounter lizards and snakes. Crocs and gators are fine as long as they are at a distance. Although I think these creatures don't travel to the downtown area, or do they?

On a side note: I hope to see the Jacksonville Jaguars make it to the Super Bowl someday.

They are there for the UNGA meet. The only forum where they can put up their case, despite it being largely inconsequential.

When was the last time peers with AC went to battle against one another since WW2, never. So not a good metric.

Still a white elephant v peers.
Oh so you mean if the enemy also had aircraft carriers, the outcome would have been different.

Which completely negates you point that A/Cs are white elephants. It would be a white elephant if:

1) It doesn't bring any value to the owner.
2) It is itself a sitting target that is a liability.

Neither of which is true.

The USN has no peers precisely because we have Carrier Battle Groups and others don't.

Far from being white elephants, these CBGs are USA's "flaming sword of vengeance". The envy of lesser nations.

Aircraft carriers have no future.

Even in this war with Iran, US had to keep them 700 miles from the Iranian coast because of the threat of anti-ship cruise and ballistic missiles.

In the near future hypersonic weapons like the Russian Zircon and anti-ship ballistic missiles like the Chinese DF-21 and DF-26 will send aircraft carriers to the trash bin of history.

Add to that AI and missile seekers become smarter and large slow moving aircraft carriers have no place in the wars of the future.

And yet, even the Chinese themselves given their military acquisitions and procurements along with the only other superpower in the world seem to disagree with your assessment.

Aircraft carriers are not only going nowhere, but will continue to increase in numbers for the foreseeable future.

It's essentially a drop in the bucket because the weapons and or planes that Iran has damaged are minuscule compared to the size of the fleet of the usn and Air Force.

I mean I'm sorry if that bothers you but it's just a fact. It's war and they're going to be losses. The US has losses, but Iran has a lot more losses

Certainly not irans fault considering they're going up against a military superpower.

But I understand that Iran has to take every victory it can get.
What Iran is doing is basically what the Vietcong and NVA did after Tet; they don't really need to win the battle, just show the American people that the war is nowhere near winning from the outside, that's their victory.

And unless the war changes drastically, I don't see us winning the perspective. And we will start seeing the result in the midterm.

Agreed.

As someone who grew up during the Vietnam era, and studied the war, I've commented here the similarity between then and now.

Unfortunately, we've some here who can't grasp that concept.

Until that day comes, the aircraft carrier will still hold a key role in power projection. And when that day does come, chances are the fleet defenses will be up to the task.

Let me re-iterate as your making assumptions on what I wrote, I said AC are white elephants v peers.

flaming sword of vengeance against much weaker nations is nothing to brag about.

Have you advised the Chinese then of such?
