Venezuela - US Conflict: News, Updates

They captured a sitting president alive from his own country in just three hours, and you think it’s a joke? You may have an issue with America, but credit should be given where it is clearly due.”
I'm impressed with the capability to do this without US casualties. In Panama there were US deaths and Panama was a way smaller nation with no military.

Trump shares image he says shows Maduro on board Iwo Jima

BBC

Trump has just shared a new image on Truth Social that he says shows "Nicolas Maduro on board the USS Iwo Jima" - this is the boat he earlier told Fox News was bringing the Venezuelan leader to the US.

The image shows what appears to be Maduro, with an eye mask and headphones on and wearing a grey tracksuit.

BBC

Is this image supposed to humiliate Maduro because it really hasn't.

Trump - We will sell the oil on their behalf and will give the $$ to the people.

You lying cockroach. Those defending these words and actions are defending the indefensible

Is there any legal basis to US claims on Venezuelan oil?

No. International law is clear that sovereign states own the natural resources within their territories under the principle of Permanent Sovereignty over Natural Resources (PSNR).

This means that sovereign states have the inherent right to control, use and dispose of their resources for their own development.

The concept of PSNR emerged after 1945 during the decolonisation of former European colonies. It was solidified by the United Nations General Assembly in a resolution adopted in December 1962.

Under this law, therefore, Venezuela owns its oil. It would be illegal under international law for the US to lay claim to it.

“A blanket claim of US ownership of Venezuelan oil has no credible basis in international law,” said Regilme.

USA has no legal right to say it is American oil. The oil belongs to the state under international law(not that it matters like that anymore.).

smh, the DOJ hasn't publicly released any evidence linking Maduro to a drug cartel. So you declaring him a narcoterrorist is a claim unproven in a court of law. The US is in breach of international law and UN Charter. It leaves the door open for others to justify kidnapping of heads of state setting a dangerous precedence. Russia can justify kidnapping Zelensky. China can justify the same with Taiwanese leaders.

My sentiments exactly at the beginning of this operation, while it was unfolding.

From the tone of the press conference, it seems this will be an option that's being prepared for other countries. An option that other powers can use if needed.

If we have the appetite to fight, we have already been in a war; doing this is the exact reason why we try to avoid a fight by launching a surgical strike

And again, you don't remove the person who is not willing to appease you, because that is not negotiation, you need an incentive to negotiate, removing you by force when you don't agree to our terms is not an incentive, you either go all the way and fully invade or you try to meet people in the middle. You don't do both at the same time.
If a leader is swiftly ousted from power, or a regime is swiftly decapitated, this development can demoralize a regional force and help turn the tide of war and/or lead to de-ecalation. As mentioned before, the US seems to have come up with a new strategy to fight a regional war starting with ousting the leadership of the opposing side. This is a FIRST in warfare in modern times. What happens next is open to speculation and some will assume the worst (habitually). Venezuelan institutions are largely intact, can restore order and facilitate transition in power. Venezuelan forces are patrolling the streets to restore order as we speak. Do you think that the next Venezuelan leader will not be willing to negotiate with Trump? What choice does he (or she) have? What if potential successors to Maduro have reached out to Trump to find a way forward?

Come on now.

Mexicos Sheingoldstein is chittin bricks right now. Orange man already sent a warning to her calling her a "good woman" but cartels run mexico.

After loosing trillions the same US is still standing tall and dominating the world.
Look at AFG right now it’s nothing but a s*t hole!
And a declining power that picks fights with impoverished third world countries to continue feeding an out of control MIC and to prove to itself it's still somebody. Meanwhile American public lives with poor healthcare, poor economic prospects and poor infrastructure.

Declining power in what sense?

Oh My God, he literally uses the same speech Putin used to justify the invasion in Venezuela in his press conference......

I would put Putin on a pedestal if compared to the Orange Madman! He is a disgrace to the great nation of USA.

Declining power in what sense? In imagination of some people?

There are many indicators if one merely opens their eyes, from the $40 trillion debt to endless trillions wasted in endless wars abroad. Meanwhile physical health, democratic metrics, infrastructure, mental health all continue to decline.

It's a shame that some people here actually support this US aggression towards a sovereign state.

They have been brought up their entire lives in white man worship and see this as validation.

Never mind the defeats in Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan or the genocide in Gaza.

What we know

Trump’s plan for Venezuela: President Donald Trump said the US will indefinitely “run the country” of Venezuela and “rebuild the oil infrastructure” after capturing President Nicolás Maduro in a large-scale military operation today. He suggested the US would remain on-site until the nation is “back on track” but didn’t specify a timeline.

What’s next for Maduro: The Venezuela leader is expected to arrive today in New York, where he will face drugs and weapons charges. His wife, Cilia Flores, was also taken into custody after the couple was dragged from their bedroom by elite US forces during the overnight raid.

On the ground: Venezuela’s opposition leader María Corina Machado has called for an opposition candidate to be installed as leader, while the county’s foreign minister insists Maduro remains the country’s head. Venezuelans in the capital have voiced mixed reactions to the US’s operation, with some celebrating the “positive change” and others saying Maduro’s capture creates “an even worse conflict.”

Trump is threatening the next Venezuelan leader to follow US dictation or experience the same fate as Maduro. Also, a second wave of bombing is very much possible if the the next leader doesn't pay heed.
