‘War criminals shrine’: China’s replacement name for Yasukuni sharpens rhetoric against Japan

China and Vietnam have good and strategic relation now, there is no problem. Filipino navy constantly provokes and attacks Chinese Coast Guards in SCS and China exercised lots retraint, not China threatening or attacking Filipin, lol. We know which country is behind Filipin. Dont twist things around.
The first country Vietnam president visited was China and spent 4 days there talking about strategic partner, historic relations and communist brotherhood lol. Somehow the West can spin that into animosity is hilarious.

China is seen as a mediator and strategic partner by ASEAN. China mediates conflicts between thailand and cambodia. Mediates religious conflicts and ethnic issues across Burma. Invest vast sums of money in places like Laos and is on friendly terms with malaysia, indonesia and singapore.

Only US vassal state phillipines try to antagonise China and somehow China is the big bully of the region? Everyone should do actual research on a topic before forming an opinion.

Isn't it funny that under duterte there were no issues between China and the filos. But soon as pro america marcos gets into power, the USA orders them to antagonise china and china responds in the most peaceful way they can.
US military and strategy experts regularly and publicly threatening to go to war with China esp on Taiwan and SCS matters even with nuke attacks. Now talk of how peace loving and rightful they are in the world, lol.

Its just part of their yearly billions dollar propaganda campaign to brainwash their own people to hate china. Its kinda sad that people refuse to do their own research and blindly believe whatever they are told by their media which is likely controlled by the CIA.

South Korea condemns PM Takaichi's Yasukuni offering, urges historical reflection

On the 17th, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a Spokesperson's commentary, "We once again express deep disappointment and regret that responsible, senior figures in Japan have yet again offered ritual donations to, or paid respects at, the Yasukuni Shrine, which glorifies Japan's past wars of aggression and enshrines war criminals."

It added, "We urge Japan's responsible leaders to face history squarely and to demonstrate through actions a humble introspection and genuine remorse over past history."

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs added, "We reiterate that this is an important foundation for building a future-oriented Korea-Japan relationship based on trust between states and between people."

Earlier, on this day, Prime Minister Takaichi offered a ritual donation called "masakaki" under the name "Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi" to mark the start of the autumn grand festival (Reitaisai) at the Yasukuni Shrine in Tokyo.

Yasukuni Shrine is a facility that commemorates the spirits of about 2,466,000 people who died in civil wars around the Meiji Restoration and in the wars started by Japan. Of these, about 2,133,000 are deaths related to the Pacific War.

In particular, 14 individuals, including former Prime Minister Hideki Tojo, who were convicted as Class-A war criminals at the International Military Tribunal for the Far East (Tokyo Trials), are enshrined there, leading to friction with neighboring countries such as Korea and China over visits by Japanese politicians or the offering of ritual donations.

Message for South-east Asia

Japan is consistently voted as the most trusted partner in South-east Asia, according to an annual survey by the ASEAN Studies Centre at the ISEAS – Yusof Ishak Institute. It retained the top spot in 2026’s poll, followed by the European Union, and then the United States and China.

▲▲▲ ISEAS?... That's from Singapore.....
Let's take a look at the Japanese government's own poll instead.

▼▼▼ This is the ASEAN poll released by Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs this year....

◉ Most important future partners: China ranked 1st, Japan 2nd (down 1 place).

◉ Most trusted country or organization: China ranked 1st, ASEAN 2nd, and Japan 3rd (down 1 place).

The 11 ASEAN member states: Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Indonesia, Brunei, and Timor-Leste (which joined ASEAN in October 2025 and was not included in the poll).

The survey revealed that, in ASEAN, China was the most frequently selected answer to the question of which countries or organizations would become important partners in the future (multiple answers allowed). China rose from 2nd place in the previous survey, while Japan, which had ranked first, fell to 2nd place.

Message for South-east Asia

For Beijing, the historical memory may also be a regional instrument, as it competes with Japan for strategic influence among its Asian neighhours.

Henrick Tsjeng, associate research fellow at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies at Nanyang Technological University, said China has sought to appeal to South-east Asians through “common historical memories” of Japanese imperialism.

“By invoking shared memories of victimhood under Japanese imperialism in World War II, Beijing has been attempting to impress upon South-east Asians its view that Tokyo is reviving its militaristic past, and that South-east Asia should, therefore, join China in censuring and isolating Japan,” he said.

China’s latest campaign to censure Japan may find some resonance among the public in some South-east Asian countries.

However, apart from Myanmar, “it has not made much impact on the positions of South-east Asian governments regarding ties with Japan”, Tseng said. That is in part due to the goodwill that Japan has fostered in the region for decades, and also in part due to the preference of South-east Asian countries not to choose sides, he noted.

【SBS News】 President Lee: “I told the Japanese prime minister that it is difficult to accept the military logistics support agreement”

https://news.sbs.co.kr/news/endPage.do?news_id=N1008599717

President Lee Jae-myung said regarding the South Korea-Japan Acquisition and Cross-Servicing Agreement (ACSA), “(To Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi) I said that, given public sentiment, it is difficult to accept this at present.”

President Lee emphasized, “Clearly, punches were thrown and I was the one who got hit (omitted). We can be on friendly terms, but can we really cooperate fully?” and “It is so because, in essence, the situation has not been cleanly settled. Only when it is settled will a genuine South Korea-Japan relationship be achieved.”

He went on to say, “It is not that the Republic of Korea is short of money and says, ‘Hand over the medical bills.’ (The Japanese side) must sincerely say, ‘I’m truly sorry that I hit you,’” and expressed hope, saying, “I believe it will come to that someday.”

President Lee’s remarks are interpreted to mean that, considering public sentiment, cooperation will continue to be pursued, but full-fledged military cooperation will be possible only after historical issues are completely resolved.

█ In October 2025, Japanese PM Takaichi Sanae visited the Japanese Cemetery in Malaysia, which sparked dissatisfaction among Malaysian netizens as well as netizens from other countries. They protested one after another under Sanae Takaichi’s X account.

Today, I visited the Japanese Cemetery in Kuala Lumpur and laid flowers at the memorial monument. I am deeply moved to have been able to pay my respects to the predecessors who lost their lives in Malaysia.
Following this, I also visited the National Monument, which honors the souls of the soldiers and civilians who died in the two world wars and in Malaysia’s struggle for independence, and reflected on the history of Malaysia.

Visiting Kuala Lumpur to honour Japanese soldiers without acknowledging the atrocities they committed in Malaya is profoundly offensive.

Australians, Malaysians, Chinese, Indians, Indonesians and many others were tortured, executed, and starved under that occupation.

Paying respects to the aggressors while ignoring their victims disrespects history itself.

Takaichi Sanae should apologise - not for remembering the dead, but for forgetting what they did.

█ The BBC has criticized Japan for never having fully confronted or acknowledged the atrocities it committed across Asia during World War II.

How does Japan remember the end of WW2?

https://www.bbc.com/news/videos/c2djj1ygpkko

BBC's Tokyo correspondent Shaimaa Khalil explains why in Japan the 15 August is a mourning occasion known as the "Memorial Day for the End of the War".

World War Two in Europe ended in May 1945 but the Allies, including the UK, US and Commonwealth forces, were fighting against Japan in east Asia.

About 71,000 soldiers from Britain and the Commonwealth died in the war against Japan, including more than 12,000 prisoners of war who died in Japanese captivity.

The Allies had told Japan to surrender in July 1945, but the deadline passed.

The US dropped two atomic bombs on Japan in that year, one on Hiroshima on 6 August 1945 and another in Nagasaki three days later. About 214,000 people were killed in the blasts.

The USSR joined the war on Japan. And on 15 August 1945, Japan surrendered.

021.jpg

▼ 00:30

But the country (Japan) has never fully confronted or acknowledged the atrocities committed by its imperial army in China, in Korea, and across Asia.
It's a stark contrast to Germany's reckoning with its Nazi past.
