The issue is that India isnt a America who have gigantic capital to invest in neighbors and like minded countries. The US sacrificed part of its industry and manufacturing by giving European, North American and East Asian counries preferential treatment for export from these countries to America. There is no way India will do so with BD.

India is interested in exporting as much as possible, that includes to BD, even if it meant killing all BD jobs.

Bangladesh's real independence will follow after it has secured it's borders, it's economy, it's water from indian aggression. Getting more guns won't change anything if you have to ask permission each time you clean it. Even the the recent order of ammunition from Pakistan was first cleared with India. I wouldn't read too much into these recent attempts to look sovereign until Bangladesh can secure it's economy from indian sanctions.

Why would Bangladesh need a strong military? To counter whom? It is surrounded by India on three sides, and the fourth side is covered by the Indian Navy. Is there a significant threat perception that Bangladesh faces from India?

Bangladesh doesn't need a strong military to manage internal conflicts, or does it need massive military capabilities to pose a threat to India.

I’m not sure why, but it seems that some in Bangladesh are intent on creating an enemy out of India. This path isn't worth pursuing, as peaceful relations would benefit both nations far more than rivalry.

No matter what BD needs a damn strong military capability to functions as an effective deterrence. It's now the BD folks' turn to "eat grass" for they've learnt to die to survive..

As a damn quick remedy to the decades of negligence lies in a close cooperation with the Turkish and Pak military industrial complexes. Imagine the following asymmetric defensive and offensive capabilities at the BD side:
1. Drones of all sorts: TB-2, Akinji, KIZILELMA, ANKA-3 etc. with all sorts of ammos - including CMs, supersonic missiles, torpedoes etc. - appertaining thereunto
2. AD systems like KORKUT, HISAR, SIPER etc. to close the gap up to 150km+ coupled with 600km range radars
3. EW/EA systems like KORAL to blind the enemy in 200km range
4. Long range MLRS like Fatah-2/3 etc.
5. MILGEM/Jinnah class frigates
6. JF-17 B3s with WVR, BVR, EW, stand-off etc. capabilities
7. Land and unmanned sea-surface based anti-ship and submarine missiles, torpedoes etc..
Etc.
