World Bank places Pakistan in MENA, ending South Asia classification

Bollywood was a big problem

Bollywood had a lot of Muslim domination also, Muslim stars, directors

The language pushed was Urdu especially in song form

This created a fake link between us and "them" when Bollywood was a fake representation of what India is

We need to cut this by banning Bollywood, at the same time hindutva can do us a favour by pushing out Urdu and Muslim culture from Bollywood

Once Bollywood becomes hindutva crap, then it's over

Only the OP type consider Turkiye as Middle Eastern. And very few of those type really exist in the real world.
We're Eurasian if anything, and culturally/historically more close to Balkans and Central Asia than MENA.
The OP type person is the OG type person who has spent decades explaining to foreigners that Turks are historically, genetically, culturally, and traditionally Eurasians.

Yes, the Middle East is part of this spectrum. Our religion is Islam, our values are shaped by Islamic teachings.

LMAO!

Its quite strange we haven't passed through basics yet. Why can't you develop courage to accept truth.

I can say with 100% emaan and conviction that Your grand grand father was a hindu too. How else do you think Islam spread? Its spread through Dawah!

All of Indonesians were hindus, and they all accepted Islam through traders & Sufis. There was not a single military conquest of Indonesia.

I believe 100% of India (like indonesia) would have converted to Islam too had there not be constant raids by power hungry barbaric afghani invaders. Those afghanis came to loot india and gave a bad image to islam/muslims. Whatever Islam spread into india is through Dawah & Sufis and not by Sword. Infact Sword acted as counter effective. You need to super courageous to change your beliefs from your forefathers. So whoever converted in your lineage 300, 500, 700 years ago you must be appreciative of that person and aknowledge him.

We all Pakistanis were hindus at one point in time 100s of years ago were Hindus. Its no shame in it. Even Sahaba were converts. Nobody was a muslim except the Prophet. I know names of my forefathers upto 5 generations back, they all were muslims but I know for a fact that hundreds of years ago, any one of them would have converted. Otherwise its impossible to have so million muslims in Pakistan (more in india and bangaldesh today).

What you say is 100% hillarious lies and childish mentality. What you guys say makes ZERO sense and logic. There is no record of mass migrations from arabia to India in anywhere in history. Yes invaders do came but they go back. Whoever stayed, their lineage would be 0.000001% of total population. BTW! why on earth you want to be called arab ? Why can't you have your own identity linked with your own land ?? We Pakistanis have extremely rich history from our own land of indus valley civilization. Division happened in 47, but prior to that we lived together in indian subcontinent for 1000s of years and we share same history.

Its disgusting to know that some fellow Pakistanis want to be associated as "arabs" when we clearly have our own history. Every muslim is not an arab. You guys got a disease of superiority complex just like RSS extremists. There is no difference between you guys and them. Iranians are muslims but they would rather die but not be called as arabs. Its high time you say goodbye to ignorance and accept truth and facts for the first time in your life. I hope & pray you will open your mind to truth and come out of life of lies.

Who the hell wants to be called Arabs???

We just don't want to be connected to the Kala gangadeshis to the east

NO-ONE here is claiming to be Arabs, indians, Turks etc. Seems like you are projecting.

Even if our ancestors were hindus, they and we are still racially and genetically different to modern day indian hindus and sikhs.

Pakistanis are NEITHER Middle Eastern nor south asian. We have our own unique identity, race, ethnicity and culture. That is the truth.

Historically, the region that is Pakistan mainly did business and commerce with the lands west to us, especially with Iran/Persia for many thousands of years. Before the british raj, our ancestors had little contact with the gangetic dravidians to the east of us.

This entire thread is full of silly arguments, from both sides of the border. There are few good posts but some of those are spoilt by incomplete understanding of the topic.
But thanks for the comedy, South Asians never fail to amuse.

Factually it means nothing, it is just an administrative issue as already explained by I think steepwolf, can't be bothered to go back and check the post.

Beyond that,
If you were conspiracy minded, many have proven to be true over time, it could be part of an effort to free India from Pakistan. The World Bank president is an Indian, it's Europeand America that set it’s agenda.

India cannot rise without being the big boy in this region of South Asia, other countries are already virtual servants and there are many Bangladeshis here with their noses up the Indianbackside sniffing the good stuff. The only country India has never been able to dominate is Pakistan.

It couldn't do it when Pakistan was 10 times smaller, right now that difference is 6 times, and Pakistan is projected to have a population of half a billion people, that's a giant in it’s own right.

Take Pakistan out of this region of South Asia and it allows India to be the hegemon, with that in place, establish partnerships with ASEAN, as a grouping and individual nations mildly presenting it as a collective good, (secretively against China), combine that with the Western support and the path for it's global rise becomes manifestly easier.

Regarding Pakistan and this region of South Asia.
Subcontinent is purely a geological term, it’s not a political term neither is it a geographical term.
The only legally recognised term for this region is South Asia.
It’s not Subcontinent or Indian subcontinent or Asian subcontinent, these are meaningless terms. They belong in the realm of geology. not history, politics or geography.
South Asia is a term recognised by the United Nations and all international organisations as the Only official term. This is a fact.

Regarding the Arab obsession.
You're all Arabs, the Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs and Buddhists. Where the do you think you came from? You didn't grow out of the earth, the dominant theory is out of Africa.
The lot of you came from the West, you're all Arabs.

With regards to recent history,
No, we’re not all Hindus, both Hinduism and Buddhism dominated this region prior to the arrival of Islam.
But Hinduism isn't a religion, it’s an umbrella term for a wide set of beliefs which have only just took on a collective meaning merely few hundreds years ago.

We were not Muslim, but it’s overly simplistic to say we were Hindus, even if you accept that collective term, it’s still wrong because Buddhism was dominant for much of the history of Indus region.

Then it begs the question what were you before being a Hindu?
Hinduism also has a starting point, it’s merely 3000 odd years old. Hindus are also converts from something else.

Since the first civilisation is ours, the Indus civilisation, Hindus converted away from Us, we’re the original standard bearers lol, if you want to get technical, besides being a little amusing it is factually correct.

I did my DNA test, my links to the soil go back upwards of 40,000 years form the maternal side (South Lebanon and Syria) and 25,000 years on the paternal side (South Jordan and North Arabia).
Since before the Indus Valley Civilisation and continuously, covering KPK, Kashmir and North Punjab.

Lastly,
There are very few countries in the world that straddle civilisation crossing points. Pakistan is the most diverse amongst them all.
We sit on the cross roads of
Gangetic civilisation,
Sinic civilisation,
Persian civilisation,
Turkic civilisation,
Arab civilisation,
We also had historical trading links with Eastern Africa due to trade winds. And wider afield due to the Silk roads.

While Pakistan has been influenced by all these, we have also influenced them, it’s been a two way street but we do not sit firmly with any of them because Pakistan is uniquely unique purely due to it’s location. I am not saying it is good or bad, I am merely stating a fact.

As in most things in life, we're free to pick and choose those we want to keep closer and those we choose to keep further away. Naturally Islam forms the core of Pakistani ethos,it is our moral compass, therefore we will be attracted to those societies which contain in their core a Islamic framework, not in the religious sense but in the cultural sense.

So there is some degree of accuracy to the points you have made.

But what is this self deprecating obsession of declaring that "we" are related to "them". The converse is true. We gave rise to any sense of civilisation the gangetics ever knew.

Pakistanis were building complex cityscapes while they swung from trees and rode elephants.

The Greeks and Persians identified the River Indus as the true regional "civilisational" nidus, not the tree dwelling folk of the peninsular and gangetic regions.

They evolved somewhat when their latest cohort of fathers arrived from the Eurasian steppe and since that moment, they called the denizens of the Indus Valley "mleccha" for a reason!

Self deprecating Pakistanis should go figure. It is a mere accident of nomenclature that coterminous Pakistan was not called "India" and coterminous India was not called "Bharat" at the point of the British departure from the subcontinent - much confusion has persisted since then.

I think you are onto something about other motives for this move, I can't exactly work out who benefits and who does not benefit

Certainly I think the new south Asian definition effectively equals India, because Pakistan still represents a pretty big country of 250 million

I don't know how Bangladeshi high finance people will view this, probably the most interesting view outside of Pakistans

In any case Pakistan has always viewed itself as being at the intersection of various Muslim groups, the Iranian link and Arab link is well established, via Turkey a very robust link is being established with central Asia and then of course Pakistan being both significantly Shia and Sunni adds another dimension of opportunity and flexibility.

This is causing a type of spiritual and psychological angst to those to the east that even I am surprised by

That then tells you Pakistan diversifying its equities and using its heritage to look westwards is the way to go which is something I've always strongly advocated for on this forum, including cricket etc etc

I don't know whether this new grouping will offer more flexibility away from Indian direct influence

Reading other Pakistanis' comments, and how some are trying to link themselves with Arabs and other civilizations. It reminds me of the Podcasts of Salman Rashid; he speaks in a crude manner, but sticks to facts on the ground.

Just as Pakistani's claim to have more Sayyids than Arabs. The number of “Sayyids” in South Asia is far higher than what is genetically plausible. Soon, the Pakistanis will claim to be more Arab and Byzantine. At this point, I'm just waiting for that one individual to come out with a theory that we were Scandinavians and Oden was our version of Ibrahim, as Ibrahim was to the Arabs.

We might have to wait until judgment day, when we will be called by our father's name, to settle the issue.

Pathetic lot. :ROFLMAO:

How often do we even have the debate about our prior ancestry amongst ourselves, it's only when people to the east wish to drag us into this literally weird and stupid discussion point.

That type of thing is only something of academic interest to a tiny minority of people, people and Nations tend to live in the present, as Muslims you live in the present, this is a spiritual and metaphysical difference.

you don't waste chunks of your life agonizing over bizarre and unknowable fantasies on other people's lineage.

This comes from the East.

You are thinking on the right dimension..let me add one more thing ....both china and America want to see Pakistan , politically and economically , integrated in the middle east... what's in it for them , I don't know... however , Pakistan is the only country where Chinese and American interests converge in keeping it stable.

What do you think an enemy is supposed to do?

Yours is not to reason why, yours is to do or die lol (the quotation is "and", in this case "or" applies)

What we need to do is develop competent minds, not as individuals but as a society, i can tell you we're i'm sorry to say a stupid bunch. That stupidity isn't about lack of capability or knowledge, it's the lack intellect.
We're incapable of original thought, incapable of having a considered discussion for the sake of exploring a topic. I have found Pakistanis to be extremely touchy, any disagree is a personal insult, it's completely insane.

We're capable that's why we have achieved a lot, but we even fail to recognise our own achievements because we're in love with self loathing randi rona, we must find things on which to cry about ourselves, it matters not if they're truthful or not.

My honest answer.
