Okay but “Treat each cycle on merits” is exactly what I’m doing. On merits, KSA is a Pakistani ally who hosts US/Western ISR, GBAD and offensive systems pointed at Iran. Whether Riyadh pulls the trigger or not, that makes it a node in a network used against Iran and in support of Israel ( TP1 and 2 operations ). Pakistan can keep the relationship and the remittances, but let’s not pretend hosting those capabilities by KSA is strategically neutral. Its fully in alliance with US & Israel. And Iran being our neighbor, we cannot and should not support jumping completely in bed with the Aal e Saud.Well, reading between the lines here, Pakistan should simply treat each cycle of events on its own merits, which I agree with, as do most on this thread I would imagine. This is the essence of international diplomacy. I think Pakistan is getting it right for the time being. Certainly, facilitating the destruction of functioning nation states is sheer lunacy, playing right into the hands of Tel Aviv.
Let me put it another way - would Israel actually be happy to have every nation in the region reduced to cave dwelling klashnikov wielders (Houthis, Talibs etc) scrapping with each other or within their own houses perpetually (take a look at Syria for another case in point)?
When Iran is sensible, we should support them. When Saudia is sensible, we should support them! Only two nations in our region are deemed "incorrigible" - no prizes for guessing them.
What Israel fears the most is a unified and peaceful, fully self sustaining empire on its borders.
But never even mind Israel. Why shouldn't an empire be forged from this region to rival any other on the planet? The Mecca Agreement remains the best single step that any of the regional nations have taken in decades and I would say that even if Pakistan were not part of it (while hoping they would quickly sign up of course) . I genuinely hope it is not scuppered by these myopic "tribesmen" and their noble klashnikovs.
Second, I don't know where this bit i.e facilitating the destruction of functioning nation states comes from. Nobody said dismantle Saudi Arabia or Iran. The question is whether Pakistan should give blind strategic cover to a Gulf monarchy while Iran is our neighbor and KSA is not. That’s not lunacy that’s just basic threat geography.
And you said “when Iran is sensible support them, when Saudia is sensible support them” sounds good but who gets to define sensible? Iran’s strike into Pakistan was a genuine dick move and we gave them a sound punch. That settles deterrence, not permanent alignment. Mature diplomacy can deter Iran and still refuse to be KSA’s flank in it's illegal wars of aggression. It's a fact that they starved Yemeni population with their blockades causing mass famines. Houthis are just settling their score now.
