Young local Tajik guy talks about their life in high Chinese Pamir Plateau border region in Xinjiang

English subtitles available

Summary:
When locals Tajiks get married, marriage gifts don't include cars and houses, cause everyone has cars and houses, they are not needed, government provides houses for free for the locals and every person has a private car and it makes no sense to get another one.

All local villagers can get a part time government "border patrol" job in this region, receiving monthly paid salary of 2,600¥ ( $400 ) per person.

Many Pakistani vendors cross the border to the Chinese side to do small business in the border town Tashkurgan, and we should support them as friends.

These Pamiris all have free government houses and private cars, road conditions are superb, and they are pretty content with ¥6000-¥7000 ($ 1,000 )monthly income, because the local cost of living is very low and they don't really need to pay for anything.

Happy to see our border folks live so well, 20 years ago cars less than half of the locals in this Pamir region had private cars, now almost every single person has one , the price of car drops below that of a local yak. And nice paved roads reach the door step of every household
In this video we can see there are more cars than people in this tiny border village
This tiny village is at Khunjerab Pass where China meets Pakistan and Afghanistan. Happy to see even in this remotest corner in the high Pamir Plateau, every person drives and paved roads can reach every household.

Can't imagine how people lived before in this vast and barren region when not every local had a private car to get around barely a decade ago

Tons of Pakistani vendors crossed the border over to this small town to sell stuff on the street, exploiting this small border town's booming tourism.
Street vendoring is not allowed in most Chinese cities, but over there some special permission seems to be granted by the Chinese government.

Ukrainian wife bargains with Pakistani vendors in Tashkurgan

Tourists amazed by how fast tiny Xinjiang border Tajik town Tashkurgan developed in just one year

They visited this remote high plateau Pamir mountain last year and many parts of the town looked like a construction site, fast forward in just one year, on the revisit, they see the newly built Tashkurgan public library, a brand new performance theater, sharebikes and share ebikes are everywhere.... such a prosperous sight in arguably the environmentally the world's harshest and remotest place!

English suddenly becomes so useful in this tiny border town

He constantly repeats "our country is so good" with tangible emotions, very heartfelt, but still China haters will insist that its staged and he said it at gun point, it's genocide all the way.

The skin tone of many Pamir Tajik are pinky white, almost same with Scottish (i lived in England for a while and saw the difference in skin tone between Scottish and English people, albeit subtle). Compared to these Pamir Tajiks, most South European look brown. (I've never met any Pamir Tajik in real life, just watched videos and documentaries bout them, so my observation may not be correct).

It is not likely the effect of coldness and high attitude, since many other Caucasian people, who are also living in very cold climate and high attitude, do not have such pinky white skin tone.

My point is that, Pamir Tajiks are not really an Iranian people, but likely the descendants of Tocharian people who were Iranianized overtime, since Tocharian people were supposedly more closely related to Celtic people (Scottish, Welsh, Irish etc.), rather than surrounding Iranian people, judging from their language remnants.

They kept their bloodline purity due to thousands of years total isolation because of the high harsh environment they live in. They may have the oldest genes in them.

Yes they are supposed direct descendants of the Saka tribe the ancient Iranian(indo German tribe) that are inhabitants most of southern Xinjiang
Here are some facts about the origin of the Pamiri people:

  • Migration
Indo-Iranian tribes migrated to the Pamir Mountains over two thousand years ago, bringing Zoroastrianism with them.

  • Tribal origins
The Pamiris are thought to be descended from a combination of Eastern Iranian, Tocharian, and Dardic tribes, as well as pre-Indo-European populations.

    Inhabitants
In the 7th and 2nd centuries BC, the Sakas inhabited the Pamir Mountains.
