North Korea reveals new images of its first nuclear submarine
Photos released by state media showed the leader, Kim Jong Un, inspecting the guided-missile submarine at an internal construction facility, suggesting it has not yet been commissioned.
Building a nuclear submarine has been a goal that Kim has long pursued, and he discussed it for the first time at the ruling party congress in 2021. However, the recent approval of the Trump administration by South Korea, its rival, to develop its own nuclear submarines appears to have increased the urgency of Kim’s plans.
These submarines have many advantages, as they are able to remain submerged for long periods, up to years if they carry enough supplies for the crew, while most conventional submarines are forced to rise to refuel to operate diesel engines, which in turn charge their batteries to operate in the depths.
They are also generally faster than conventional submarines, and often less noisy. Currently, only the United States, Russia, China, France, the United Kingdom, and India have this technology.
The North Korean leader was quoted by the Korean Central News Agency as confirming that the comprehensive modernization of nuclear capabilities and the strengthening of the navy has become an “inevitable necessity,” in light of what he described as “an international reality that is not conducive to peace.”
He also warned that South Korea's efforts to develop a nuclear-powered submarine, with support and coordination with the United States, would lead to escalation of tension on the Korean Peninsula and represent a direct threat to his country's national security, which would require taking corresponding measures.
In a related context, Pyongyang's official media criticized the recent entry of a nuclear-powered American submarine into a South Korean port, and considered this a "dangerous escalation of military tension" on the peninsula and the surrounding area.
North Korea stated earlier that it sees indications of Japan's intention to possess nuclear weapons, noting that these trends are fueled by Seoul's moves to develop a nuclear submarine.

On December 28th, a training exercise involving the launch of long-range strategic cruise missiles was conducted in the West Sea of Korea. Kim Jong Un, General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and Chairman of the State Affairs Commission, observed the exercise. The launch training was "aimed at testing the counterattack readiness and combat capabilities of the long-range missile forces, enabling missile personnel to master the procedures for maneuvering and executing fire missions, and verifying the reliability of the relevant strategic weapons systems."
Two missiles flew for 10,199 seconds and 10,203 seconds respectively along their designated trajectories over the West Sea of Korea and successfully hit their targets.

North Korea said on Sunday that Japan's nuclear ambitions "must be prevented at any cost," after a Tokyo official reportedly suggested the country should possess atomic weapons.
Pyongyang's reaction came after the unnamed official in the Prime Minister's Office was quoted by Kyodo News on Thursday as saying: "I think we should possess nuclear weapons."
The official was reported to have been involved in devising Japan's security policy.

"The war criminal state Japan's attempt to go nuclear must be prevented at any cost as it will bring mankind a great disaster," a press statement released by the director of the Institute for Japan Studies under the North Korean Foreign Ministry read.
The reaction from North Korea came after Kyodo News reported that a source from the Japanese prime minister's office told journalists during an unofficial exchange that Tokyo “needs to possess nuclear weapons.”
The remarks prompted criticism from both ruling and opposition parties, which called for the official’s removal.
Japan on Friday reiterated its commitment to “maintain the so-called three non-nuclear principles, which prohibit possessing, producing or permitting the introduction of nuclear arms.”
As the only country to have suffered atomic bombing during war, Tokyo will continue pursuing “realistic and practical measures to achieve a world without nuclear weapons” under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, Chief Cabinet Secretary Minoru Kihara told a news conference.
On Aug. 6, 1945, the US dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, killing an estimated 140,000 people. A second bomb hit Nagasaki on Aug. 9, killing another 70,000.

North Korea said on Sunday that Japan’s nuclear ambitions “must be prevented at any cost” after a Tokyo official reportedly suggested the country should possess atomic weapons.
Pyongyang’s reaction came after the unnamed official in the prime minister’s office was quoted by Kyodo News on Thursday as saying: “I think we should possess nuclear weapons.”
The official was reported to have been involved in devising Japan’s security policy.
The Kyodo report also quoted the source as saying: “In the end, we can only rely on ourselves”, when explaining the necessity.
Pyongyang said the remarks showed Tokyo was “openly revealing their ambition to possess nuclear weapons, going beyond the red line”.
“Japan’s attempt to go nuclear must be prevented at any cost as it will bring mankind a great disaster,” the director of the Institute for Japan Studies under the North’s foreign ministry said in a statement carried by the official Korean Central News Agency on Sunday.
“This is not a misstatement or a reckless assertion, but clearly reflects Japan’s long-cherished ambition for nuclear weaponisation,” said the North Korean official, who was not named.

China, Russia and even US will not allow Japan to possess nukes, it's a really dangerous beast. If they do, China and Russia will likely carry out preemptive strikes to destroy the nukes.
Japan is really a middle power nation in terms of population, territory, economy and resources(even less). But, the Japanese are not content to stay in its fate and live on the islands. It always wants to break out to be a superpower, to expand to conquer and populate the Asian continent esp Korea and China. In recent time, it had crazily fought wars with all of its three continental sized neighboring countries China, Russia and US. Such power hungry trait makes the Japanese such dangerous people. The other country in East Asia that is also not content with its territory and status, and also wants to expand is Vietnam, it wants to dominate the whole Southeast Asia peninsula.

North Korea has test-fired two long-range “strategic” cruise missiles, state media said Monday, as leader Kim Jong Un pledged to continue the “unlimited and sustained development” of his country’s nuclear forces.
Kim said that exercises, which were held over the Yellow Sea a day earlier, were for “checking the reliability and rapid response” of North Korea’s “nuclear deterrent on a regular basis and steadily demonstrating their might,” the official Korean Central News Agency reported.
The North Korean strongman said that the ruling party and government would “devote all their efforts to the unlimited and sustained development of the state nuclear combat force.”
