If the Saudis are going for JF-17 Thunders, it means they have doubts about Western military reliance.
 
Some members are wondering if Pakistan cannot return $2B in Saudi loan, how then Pak is going to produce these jets? There was recently some chatter of Pakistan returning some of the KSA/UAE loan in the coming months because Pak's foreign reserves are getting up to a better level. If that's indeed true then it's much better an arrangement for Pakistan to produce and supply jets to Saudis rather than returning the hard currency.

Now the question is how Thunders fit in Saudi calculation of their national security? I think, given the recent Pak-Saudi defense deal, the deployment of (additional) Pak troops in Saudi Arabia is almost certain. Would these troops use the Saudi bought western/American equipment? Probably not. I am sure they cannot without an explicit approval from the supplier country. How then Pak troops would fight a war, if needed, against any foreign aggression into Saudi Arabia? I think Thunders in significant numbers along with plenty of other systems (from Pakistan or China through Pakistan) will be required to turn Pak troops deployment in KSA into a fighting force. We should probably be hearing many CMs, AK/Haiders, ADSs, etc. following the same trend.

That was my question. We don't have the cash. Any "loan" given has been consumed already.

1st thing that comes to my mind: check their oil production, about $30B per year.
They have the money.

So what i think is this is a way to package debt forgiveness by getting Pakistan money to build jf-17s and taking back some of the debt pressure. In this way Saudi gets something and doesnt have to deal with internal politics around debt forgiveness and Pakistan gets money to build jets whilst at same time removing debt pressure.

Someone mentioned its saudi way of paying for a permanent Pakistani airforce contingent protecting Saudi what do you think of that
