GIDS - Global Industrial Defence Solutions

That's what I believe the Iranians did, I honestly believe we could have had a established engine Industry if the garment had forced localisation on auto manufacters rather then letting them just build knockdown kits
you dont even need to do all of this.

all the components are there, someone just needs to put them together. Hell, even reverse engineering some chinese hobbyist design is sufficient. We're not talking turbojets/fans for long term use here. OWA Pistons.

I am talking beyond just drones, engines for armoured vehicles etc, having a proper auto industry would have helped in many areas of defense.

i guess one thing people tend to overlook is whether its worth doing all that.

Lets pretend Pakistan was capable of producing jet engines.

Would we actually use domestic ones? Or would it be cheaper/more cost effective to import.

Look at the roovaik program if you want an example of a country who had the technical ability to build, but did not have the fiscal ability. Thats us, kinda. We dont have the luxury of buying local always, no matter how strategically important, for pakistan, it always comes down to funds.

Engines of this calibre are being designed (or planned to) at NASTP facilities, I've seen some names & models on display if I can remember correctly

Because synergy between private companies and SOEs is still lacking.
Agreed. It’s a strategy and execution problem (easier to address) and not lack of capacity issue (harder to fix).

Here's something we can do if we wish to have an automotive industry but will never do. Jack up the prices of petrol so that only the crazy rich can buy it. Have a different petrol price for two wheelers. Build a first-rate, electric-powered public transportation sector (trolley buses whenever possible). Divide buses into classes if needed. It would result in massive savings in FDI, so we can channel remittance and export dollars into industrial imports intead of import-driven consumption of the elite and middle class. Of course, the elite and middle class will never agree to this. It's really about priorities.
