BREAKING : Cargo plane overshoots runway at Miami International Airport

Were they coming in ‘hot and high’ as in too much speed and height?
Or wind shear got them?

Good thing is the NTSB will be there immediately and can do their work without hindrance

A good old forum for aviation is airliners.net. Many posters there belong to the industry.
Chatter there says this was an attempted landing that should have been a go-around. Pilots landed with too little runway to stop.

yeh the video i saw, pilot didnt have the plane leveled on the runway and it was still a couple of feet above runway, at that point should've triggered a immediate TOGA and come around for a better approach........

Seems he was not in a controlled landing. Too high and too fast? Reminds me again of what happened with the A320 of PIA in Karachi few yrs ago......(factors different but end result is a mess)

BTW, avherald also posts such news daily......a good source of speculative news too, many pilots on there too.

CONJECTURE:
I bet we will find the plane was severely overloaded and the pilot was worried about airspeed. He kept his speed up to prevent stalling and so came to the runway quick and when he realized he was too far down the runway he forced the landing anyway because he didn't think with all the weight he had the thrust to get back up to a safe flying speed again to do a go-around. It was either surviving a crash on the runway or crash a 1/2 mile beyond it into some buildings while stalling during climbing which has zero chance of surviving.

He chose fighting with the plane on the runway.
It's too bad (and stupid) that there was a busy public road directly behind the fence at the end of the runway.

It's not even the worst setup. Checkout the runway end at Laguardia in NYC if that plane went off the runway.

wow...what could go wrong. Hope that arrow sand pit works because it certainly didn't work in Miami...the plane skidded right through it...and WAY WAY beyond it too.
Say "Hello" to 8 lanes of highway traffic...

We shall see what the investigation brings up.There certainly seems to be a lot of air incidents and crashes lately … 😔

Doubtful the aircraft was overloaded. The plane was inbound from SJU. Most likely to be carrying product returns and empty pallets / ULDs. That would put the plane nowhere close to full capacity.

Won't be surprised based on the handful of videos I've seen.

These days airports are surrounded by densely populated areas, or highways(in canada, usa, europe) and any accident has consequences
The hard sand strips at the end of the runways are useful but only if the plane veers straight into it, not always occurs that way

If he was so heavy he shouldve come with better approach (its daytime) so they have visual clear path and can see ahead. Not sure whether TOGA wouldve saved them, if it was not possible I can see why he chose to put it down anyway.

Still looks bad with so many deaths and a damaged plane, hope it can be salvaged and not a write off.

The landing gears did not fully rest on runway , not sure if it was a wind issue or a technical malfunction. No doubt the youtubers already been out with speculative videos already and pilot blaming already

We have enough self-proclaimed internet experts here as it is so I've no issue ignoring most of the Youtube experts as well. Because, well, most of them are expert in their minds only.

As for the airframe, who knows? Depending on the extent of the structural damage, it could fly again. Or, maybe not. Will depend on a number of factors: aircraft age, cost to repair, etc.

FWIW, when one of our aircraft was shot down over SDA (Saddam International Airport), that aircraft sat for a few years. A salvage company out of South Africa bought, recovered, and transported it back to Johannesburg. From there, they rebuilt and refitted it, were able to get it re-certified, and it is back flying to this day. A friend of mine who is a retired F-111 driver was on the accident investigation team. He gave me the details on what happened. It was not a heat seeker as some claim.

BTW, the crew did live but the ground crew never saw those Belgians smoke as many cigarettes as they did once they were away from the aircraft.

Nobody is claiming expertise...just tossing out possibilities for debate since waiting 3 years like patient sheep for some crash report to hopefully come out isn't helpful when trying to make sense of what we just saw.

let's all see if we learn anything...

NTSB Media Briefing - Miami, FL Runway excursion accident involving a B-767-300 cargo airplane

Seems it hit a van that had victims
