A good old forum for aviation is airliners.net. Many posters there belong to the industry.
Chatter there says this was an attempted landing that should have been a go-around. Pilots landed with too little runway to stop.

yeh the video i saw, pilot didnt have the plane leveled on the runway and it was still a couple of feet above runway, at that point should've triggered a immediate TOGA and come around for a better approach........

Seems he was not in a controlled landing. Too high and too fast? Reminds me again of what happened with the A320 of PIA in Karachi few yrs ago......(factors different but end result is a mess)

BTW, avherald also posts such news daily......a good source of speculative news too, many pilots on there too.

CONJECTURE:
I bet we will find the plane was severely overloaded and the pilot was worried about airspeed. He kept his speed up to prevent stalling and so came to the runway quick and when he realized he was too far down the runway he forced the landing anyway because he didn't think with all the weight he had the thrust to get back up to a safe flying speed again to do a go-around. It was either surviving a crash on the runway or crash a 1/2 mile beyond it into some buildings while stalling during climbing which has zero chance of surviving.

He chose fighting with the plane on the runway.
It's too bad (and stupid) that there was a busy public road directly behind the fence at the end of the runway.


It's not even the worst setup. Checkout the runway end at Laguardia in NYC if that plane went off the runway.

wow...what could go wrong. Hope that arrow sand pit works because it certainly didn't work in Miami...the plane skidded right through it...and WAY WAY beyond it too.
Say "Hello" to 8 lanes of highway traffic...

Doubtful the aircraft was overloaded. The plane was inbound from SJU. Most likely to be carrying product returns and empty pallets / ULDs. That would put the plane nowhere close to full capacity.
