Iranian Missiles | News and Discussions

"A military source from the Guards Space Force told Fars Agency in response to the interference with the GPS system in the occupied territories of Palestine: We have not used any GPS satellite guidance system or other international satellites to guide our missiles for 12 years..."

How is a missile using only the inertial guidance system possible with this precision?

Even the Pershing II (I believe it is an approximate analogue of the Kheybar Shekan considering that both missiles are MaRV-type MRBMs) still used a more advanced guidance system to have greater precision.

Researchers Find Way to Use Starlink Signals As Alternative to GPS

The research, which was sponsored by the Army Research Office, shows Starlink could be used as a backup to the US's Global Positioning System.

Despite the rejection, Humphrey’s team went ahead with their research and managed to analyze the signal structure for Starlink downlink beams in the 10.7 to 12.7GHz band. “We further identified four synchronization sequences that can be used to passively exploit Starlink signals for pseudorange-based positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT), and explicitly evaluated two of these,” his team wrote in their non-peer reviewed paper.

Starlink can be used as a GPS-like system since the satellites are routinely beaming signals to Earth’s surface. Hence, a receiver on the ground can analyze these signals, and calculate the distance from a Starlink satellite, to pinpoint its location on the planet.

According to MIT Technology Review, Humphrey's team used the Starlink satellites to locate a receiver within about 30 meters. That still isn’t as accurate as GPS, which can locate a device, such as a smartphone, within 5 meters or less. But if SpaceX were to cooperate with Humphrey, the accuracy of the Starlink-powered positions system could improve to less than a meter.

On Friday, Musk himself weighed in on the research. "Starlink can obviously offer far more robust positioning than GPS, as it will have ~1000X more satellites over time," he wrote in a tweet. "Not all will have line of sight to users, but still >10X GPS & far stronger signal. Just not today’s problem."
Could Iran use this approach?

Patarames believes that Fattah-2 is not yet operational

Overall he paints a pessimistic picture of the Israeli ABM vs Iranian MRBM dynamic.

US claims Iran fired 110 MRBMs, which seems high. At least 7 confirmed impacts caught on camera.

Potential use of decoys and other countermeasures - could explain some overcounting. Hopefully IRGC statement confirms numbers and types. But looks like Haj Qasem / Kheybar Shekan MRBMs.

US claimed its destroyers/fighter jets intercepted at least 70 Iranian drones and 3 MRBMs.

According to US/Israeli numbers, Israel intercepted 100 MRBMs. Assuming 2 interceptors per MRBM, that's 200 missile interceptors (Arrow and Patriot). That's a very large number. That's almost the entire amount of Patriot and Arrow interceptors deployed at any one time (estimated) if true (c. 200-250).

New footage suggests the majority of the MRBMs were Rezvan (old liquid fuel SCUD based missile). Did Israel just use 100-200 Arrow/Patriot interceptors against 100 Rezvan missiles? Sure hope so.

good thread.

Irani state media stated that Khybar shikan were used.

I am hopeful that Iranian missile will improve after this greatest war testing and improvements will be forthcoming - errors and flaws rectified - tactics improved

this is a new era for Iran missile force and technological development - real testshave been done - now improvements are forth coming

Tht first video shows last sec interceptions

@Mehdipersian instead of giving laughing reactions, see the videos shared by @Persian Gulf closely these are not hits. These are last second interceptions probably by point defence short range SAMs.

And that makes sense.Scud level ballistic missiles can be intercepted quite easily even by Short range SAMs.They are literally rockets tbh.

These are comparitively slow in their terminal stage so quite possible are intercepted by David Sling or Iron Dome.Patriots & Arrows would be overkill here.

We know you are burning. Didn't you think we would humiliate your master like this? isn't it

the fuel and oxidizer shown by Israel supporter as evidence of missile interception were clear evidence that at leas a great chink of the missiles fired were liquid fueled scud based missiles, but the some of the missiles that hit target in Israel were a lot faster than i recall how those liquid missiles were and had lower trajectory so i believe it was a combination of more modern solid fuel and old scud base missiles .
