Tughril-Class (Type 054A/P) Frigate | Updates & Discussion

Can we upgrade LY-80 SAM with HQ-16FE in future?
It depends on whether the Type 054A/P can support a larger SAM of that size. However, the PN will eventually carry out a MLU of the Type 054A/Ps (in 10-15 years), so by then, it'll have a long-range SAM of some kind.

Chinese military fans are already studying the possibility of HQ-16FE's 1 VLS unit carrying 4 missiles. ------ According to the information that has been released, since HQ-16FE adopts a wingless body design (only tail fins), its actual space occupied is slightly smaller than HQ-16 (LY-80). It has this possibility.

The naval versions of HQ-16 and HQ-16FE both use the H/AKJ-16 VLS launch platform.
The only technical problem may be the radar. HQ-16FE uses new technology, and the radar of 054A/P may not be able to support this missile. ------ According to relevant information, 054B will use HQ-16FE, and its radar system is much more advanced than 054A.

If one day the PLA Navy's 054A starts replacing the HQ-16 with the HQ-16FE, then there will be no technical obstacles for the 054A/P.

This is a completely wrong statement. The chief engineer of the HQ-16FE interviewed at the Zhuhai Air Show clearly stated that the launch unit size of the HQ-16FE is exactly the same as that of the HQ-16 and HQ-16B. The reason for this design is that any weapon system that fills the launch unit of the HQ-16 and HQ-16B can be replaced without any modification.

I think he is talking about quad packing the missiles for greater number. LY 80 is not quad packed as far as I know.

I am pretty sure they're fully integrated with the Chinese naval assets including the boomers lurking in the Arabian Sea....
