Syrian Civil War and The future of Syria after liberation

UN peacekeepers remain in the buffer zone established in Syrian territory following the 1973 Middle East War and have stressed that by moving its ground forces in, Israel is now in violation of the ceasefire agreement which set it up.

Israeli officials argue that the ceasefire agreement has now collapsed, as the other party to the agreement ceased to exist, and that its moves are temporary and limited for self-defence.

A UN peacekeeping spokesperson said peacekeepers were "unable to move freely within the buffer zone following recent events", adding that it was "imperative that the UN peacekeepers are allowed carry out their mandated tasks without hindrance".

"We're against these types of attacks. I think this is a turning point for Syria. It should not be used by its neighbours to encroach on the territory of Syria," UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said.

Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Jordan, Iraq and the Arab League have all issued official statements, with several presenting it as a land grab made by taking advantage of recent events, and a violation of Syria's sovereignty and international law.

He is right that Syria is an artificial creation but forgot to mention that its population is native to the land, unlike his beloved Zionist entity that is also an artificial creation but with 95+ of its population imports from all over the world
Syria, Lebanon and Palestine all existed for hundreds of years as defined regions. They were not independent states, those were artificially created. Israel was literally fabricated out of nothing in 1948.

Ben also has the most annoying voice. He sounds like his balls are squeezed by a Vice grip all the time.

Because of US pressure. But they are still quietly consulting with the group constantly. The Saudi elites are very tied to the US financially so it is very hard for them to extricate themselves that’s just a fact.
Correct, but who is not very closely tied to the West financially? The entire international financial system is a Western creation to begin with and the dollar still reigns supreme. China cannot decouple itself from the West economically either. The rise of China would have been impossible if decoupled from the international system. China's emergence was due to becoming the manufacturing hub of the world.

The US is also the by far largest trade partner of China.

Also let us be honest an organization where China and India is a part of, is doomed to failure. Also South Africa (LOL) as one of the 5 main pillars. Come on. I think that countries should be cooperating directly with nations outside of those coffee clubs. Even the UN where everyone is a part of is mostly a failure and a very ineffective system but one could argue that there are no other alternative.

BTW, I am not against KSA becoming a BRICS member but I cannot see what we would gain that we cannot gain directly by cooperating with China, India, Russia, Brazil and all those countries that we already deal with directly.

Anyway we are a off-topic here, lol.

The US has urged Israel to ensure its incursion is "temporary".

BBC

Among Israelis however there has been broad public support for the country's pre-emptive actions.

Several media outlets are stressing the potential danger posed by Syria's new Islamist leaders, with HTS still widely designated as a terrorist organisation.

In the Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper, Amihai Attali congratulated Israel's military and political establishments, saying they had learnt a valuable lesson from the deadly Hamas attacks of 7 October 2023, which caught the country off guard.

"One of the most important lessons of the invasion, massacre and mass-kidnappings is that we cannot afford the privilege of trying to interpret enemy intentions," he wrote.

"We can't afford to make mistakes on that front. We don't have the margin of error for that."

'I want justice': Victims of Syria chemical attacks speak freely for first time

Tawfiq Diam's wife and four children were killed in a 2018 chemical weapon attack
Tawfiq Diam is emotional because it's the first time he's been able to speak freely about what happened to his family back in 2018, in Douma in the Eastern Ghouta suburb of Damascus.

"If I'd spoken out before, Bashar al-Assad's forces would have cut off my tongue. They would have slit my throat. We were not allowed to talk about it," he says.

Tawfiq's wife and his four children aged between eight and 12 - Joudy, Mohammed, Ali and Qamar - were killed in a chemical attack on 7 April 2018.

The Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), a global watchdog, said in a report last year that it believed a Syrian air force helicopter departed from the nearby Dumayr air base shortly after 19:00 that day and dropped two yellow cylinders which hit two apartment buildings, releasing highly concentrated chlorine gas.

True. That’s why China is slowly extricating itself and developing financial and technological independence. But this takes time after decades of integration. That’s what a lot of people don’t understand.

I don’t think China and India being in Brics makes it a failure. Having the two in there is better than them not being in it because it forces both to compromise, cooperate and talk. Also there are overlapping interests besides differences. If anything the fact that Brics is not a traditional alliance makes it easier for other countries to cooperate with each other within its framework bc it is not a straightforward alliance targeting the West for example. It’s more a forum for countries to cooperate with one another.

I actually think China and India relations is quietly improving now that India has been rebuffed a bit by the west. So we will see.

Iran is useless, Iraq is a Shia majority state, with a Shia govt with a supposedly Pro Iran Prime Minister, and they still can't get the US to exit Iraq. lol, so much for "ReSiSTanCe", get rid of US bases that shoot down your own missiles and facilitate airstrikes on your own country first, and use Iraq for infiltration missions into Iran, launch Insurgent activities in Iranian Kurdistan, Drone Attacks, and all sorts of Stuff, all happening in a Shia Majority state with a Shia govt. Oh and did I mention A drone flying over Iraq killing Qassem Soulemani in Iraq, in Baghdad no less?
It's not about useful or useless. The US has told the Iraqi's point blank, you evict us and we impose Caesar sanction and then you shrivel and die no?

You want Iran to own 40 million people? when Iran itself under the strongest sanctions regime? Iraq already owes Iran tens of billions for unpaid energy dues.

Iraq will disintegrate if its sanctioned. Maybe you'd like that no?

I know that but the fact is that Syria is not a "natural" nation like either BD or China.

BD - home to BD'shis Muslims

China - home to ethnic Han.

A Syrian Arab Muslim would feel that the Jordanian Arab Muslim across the border is more his "brother" than a Syrian Druze as an example to illustrate why these countries are likely to have instability even in a more benign geopolitical world environment.

It is no accident that since the end of the Chinese civil war and independence for BD, both nations have had next to no civil strife - you do not fight with yourself.

Yeah European colonial borders are the source of most of today’s geopolitical problems.

As for chaos and backwardness, just visit Twitter and see the horrible vidoes and photos that are emerging from Bangladesh of killed and persecuted minorities and civilians.

Hinduvta goons told you that and so it must be true?

I will comment on whatever I feel like and if you don't like it put me on your ignore list.

Syrian Air Force Intelligence (Aleppo)

Syria’s most powerful intelligence service is their brutal Air Force Intelligence (المخابرات الجوية) which was empowered by Hafez Assad who once headed the air force. Essentially it oversees Syria’s entire intelligence community (General Intelligence, Military Intelligence, Political Security, Air Force Intelligence) & is known for its extreme violence so it’s not just strictly in the realm of military intelligence.

Exactly. Which is why we should give Syrians a chance to actually create a better and stronger Syria. Syria failed in 1967 in this regard, lost the Golan Heights and since then nothing has changed under the same regime. Now when a new regime will emerge, we will all see if Syria will become stronger or weaker. For starters the majority will now rule/dominate/decide.

BTW, the golden era of modern-day Syria was before the Ba'ath era and minority rule (surprise, surprise).

Mirrors Iraq pre-Saddam.

This might interest you and others that want to learn about the history of Syria prior to 1963 (Ba'ath party coup).

The entire 151 pages can be downloaded as a PDF.

Those are academic works/papers, not some propaganda.

For those curious to learn about the history of Syria before the Ba'ath coup in 1963.

EDIT: Why was my post to UKBengali deleted? It broke no rules? Is it now against the rules to point out the fact that 50% of all Bangladeshis don't have access to a toilet, show videos from Bangladesh and compare them with videos from Yemen (war-torn) that look much better and orderly and tell him that he should not make stupid, ignorant and incorrect claims of backwardness when he is in no position to say such things? Strange behavior. Was it the Bangladeshi moderator (AL-Zakir)? Strange behavior.

Oh look now who is not big and strong "resistance". lol

This is Iraq's own fault in not strategically shifting reliance on the US away, and become self reliant. In many ways this state is still very much the Post Invasions puppet state that administration that the US set up.

They won't implement shit, b/c its not justifiable publicly to implement ceaser sanctions simply for asking them to leave, besides you are a petro state regardless, it doesn't matter as much, the ability to resist sanctions is stronger.

There is a withdrawal agreement, but they keep resisting.
