I dunno which companies you have worked for. Mine are Amazon, Microsoft, Intel and Google. I am yet to see any systemic nepotism at the top layer of American tech industry.

Incidentally all of them have done extremely well for my ESOPs.

Huh? Most complaints come from those idiots who are like dogs chasing cars. They cannt even drive those cars if they caught it. Most had long tenures in same organisation doing the stuff that is doable by much cheaper labour. They should have upgraded their skills.

I started out as a graphics chipset automation tester for Intel. An years later I moved to writing drivers. Six months from then, the whole chipset driver testing moved to India. I kept on moving up and up in the value chain and now I am optimizing my own ML model for low cost GPUs for my own startup.

Dont blame the players if you do not know how to play the game.

Bullshit! Successful businesses are built by pragmatic folks irrespective of nationalism or patriotism. H1B is now 33 years old. We are yet to see any large scale sustained decline in tech industry in US at all.

We are both from South Asia and we know the poisonous aspects of our culture. That is why South Asians do well when they go to the West but the home country has not, for the most part. As long as South Asians work in a Western corporate context, under Western code of conduct, everything is well but, as soon as they become the dominant group in a project, the poisonous societal traits take over. Much as they try to be Western, the mob dynamics simply make it impossible.

I know you know these things, and they take time to have their effect, but the trajectory is clear.

No. Culture is a critical part of success. Technical brilliance is only a small part. Ask any successful tech business owner and they will tell you tech is the easy part.

Fundamental problem with India is that it hates capitalism and never transitioned to it in 60s or 70s when "Asian tigers" were starting out.

Fundamental problem with Pakistan is feudalism which was never crushed because Jinnah died a bit too early.

Other stuff is more incidental. Japan is WAY more nepotistic and toxic than us as a society. They have it institutionalised in their companies and work culture. Yet they are way more industrialised than either India or Pakistan.

Same with China. Connections and favours are everything there too.

None of these are fundamental issues. They are often self correcting too.
