'Kicked him to the curb': How Elon Musk forced Vivek Ramaswamy out of DOGE

Hear it from the person himself...

Juicy bits starts around 20 mins mark.

You dont get capitalistic society without its features. Its that simple.
No country no matter how capitalistic privileges foreigners over it's own citizens, unless if the recipients are Isrealis which Indians are clearly not, nor do their ethnic/brethren run the host country with absolute nepotism and ethnic/religious supremacy.

Happens way more often than you think it does.

Best comment on that video:

Vivek not realizing he was the DEI for DOGE
😅
now he’s jobless

I have said it before and I will say it again.

The influx of Indians into Western tech is the best thing that has happened to China.

Not because Indians are inherently inferior but whenever nepotism trumps meritocracy, the results will always be inferior.

Given he is favourite for Governor primary in Ohio even right, it has not been that bad. Remember, the guy does not have to work at all. He is a billionaire.

I dunno which companies you have worked for. Mine are Amazon, Microsoft, Intel and Google. I am yet to see any systemic nepotism at the top layer of American tech industry.

Incidentally all of them have done extremely well for my ESOPs.

LOL, way to miss the point!
No, its very pertinent. For a guy to move from upper middle to complete financial independence and top level of US politics at an age of 39 is pretty big. He is first generation to boot.

Its a question of context.

That's because you are an Indian and see what you want to see.
Follow the online conversation about the H1-B issue and you will see Americans detail the nepotism.

The success built by American ingenuity over decades has a lot of inertia. Enjoy the ride while it lasts.

We all know how he made his billions. Maybe you don't but that's to be expected. He did not produce anything. He gamed the system by running a scam company just at the borderline of legality. This is not my assessment; this is the conclusion by any number of Americans who investigated his past, including the NYT.

Huh? Most complaints come from those idiots who are like dogs chasing cars. They cannt even drive those cars if they caught it. Most had long tenures in same organisation doing the stuff that is doable by much cheaper labour. They should have upgraded their skills.

I started out as a graphics chipset automation tester for Intel. An years later I moved to writing drivers. Six months from then, the whole chipset driver testing moved to India. I kept on moving up and up in the value chain and now I am optimizing my own ML model for low cost GPUs for my own startup.

Dont blame the players if you do not know how to play the game.

Bullshit! Successful businesses are built by pragmatic folks irrespective of nationalism or patriotism. H1B is now 33 years old. We are yet to see any large scale sustained decline in tech industry in US at all.

And no, thats not on the cards in any near future.

This is mostly a lie.

But let me say this. There is only one rule of wall st. Making alpha. Everything is purely a distant secondary. He is/was a wall st businessman and did exceptionally well in that role.

We are both from South Asia and we know the poisonous aspects of our culture. That is why South Asians do well when they go to the West but the home country has not, for the most part. As long as South Asians work in a Western corporate context, under Western code of conduct, everything is well but, as soon as they become the dominant group in a project, the poisonous societal traits take over. Much as they try to be Western, the mob dynamics simply make it impossible.

I know you know these things, and they take time to have their effect, but the trajectory is clear.

Yawn. Rant ignored.

We are all very impressed but irrelevant to the wider discussion.

No. Culture is a critical part of success. Technical brilliance is only a small part. Ask any successful tech business owner and they will tell you tech is the easy part.

If you don't know this, your startup is already doomed.

This is mostly a lie.

Denying reality will not change it. The details of how he made his billions are well documented, by none other than the NYT.

But let me say this. There is only one rule of wall st. Making alpha. Everything is purely a distant secondary. He is/was a wall st businessman and did exceptionally well in that role.

There is a whole spectrum of how people make money. Vivek is squarely in the scum pond end of that spectrum

Fundamental problem with India is that it hates capitalism and never transitioned to it in 60s or 70s when "Asian tigers" were starting out.

Fundamental problem with Pakistan is feudalism which was never crushed because Jinnah died a bit too early.

Other stuff is more incidental. Japan is WAY more nepotistic and toxic than us as a society. They have it institutionalised in their companies and work culture. Yet they are way more industrialised than either India or Pakistan.

Same with China. Connections and favours are everything there too.

None of these are fundamental issues. They are often self correcting too.
