The recent events in Bangladesh have largely removed the stigma and the bitterness of the tragedies around the 1971 war. But what's puzzling to me is that why did Hasina had to go to such extent to insult Pakistan? It is one thing to be warmer toward India for trade/commerce but another to insult Pakistan, which was not a major factor in BD's geopolitical situation. Sounds like Hasina drank a little too much of Modi's Kool Aid.

Now, less than a month before this meeting, on February 25, Bangladesh’s Army headquarters sent out an office order related to an official tour to Pakistan’s Taxila of seven Bangladesh Army officers in respect of the “upgradation” of 98 battle tanks at the Margalla Heavy Industries Ltd.

The office order originated from the office of the Principal Staff Officer, Armed Forces Division, under the Chief Advisor’s Office.

The ‘special team’ of officers were to Margalla Heavy Industries Ltd between March 2 and 7 to oversee the up-gradation of 40 T59-KMK and 58 T-69G. The visit was given a wide window – the Bangladesh Army could visit the Taxila-based company anytime till April 30.

The Bangladesh Army, documents in the possession of Northeast News show, was invited by the Dhaka-based Pakistan High Commission’s defence wing (through a February 13 letter) to undertake the visit to Taxila.

The seven-member Bangladesh Army team, led by Brigadier General Khairul Islam, did indeed visit the Taxila complex of Margalla Heavy Industries Ltd.

A Departure Card, filled in by Brig Gen Khairul Islam during immigration procedure, show that he boarded a Thai Airways flight (TG-322) on March 3.

The rest of the team, comprising a colonel, two lieutenant colonels, two majors and a captain, accompanied Brig Gen Khairul Islam.

They took a roundabout route to Bangkok before landing in Islamabad the same day.

The Bangladesh Army’s February 25 office order reveals that the visiting officers were to be guests of Heavy Industries Taxila who would bear all their local expenses.

The up-gradation of the tanks was necessitated by the fact that their 100 mm guns and ammunition were “on the point of becoming obsolete”. Besides, Bangladesh Army documents reasoned, that essential components of the two series of tanks were also “not readily available in the international market”.

idk about the t69 upgrade criteria, but new APS will be integrated into T59 tanks... it will be done on durjoy series apparently

We must end this chapter of our dark history as soon as possible. Pakistan must apologize and pay for the share assets before 1971. We should accept up to 1 million Pakistanis stranded in Bangladesh.

Where did you get that? I didn't heard anything about APS? Isn't it too expensive for us?

We must keep high level talking and try to find ways acceptable for both of us to close that dark chapter of our history. We need each other, realpolitik demands it...

Instead of these we should get the basics right first. No? Do we even have a defense policy?

Pakistan has an indigenous APS system that they will integrate into their existing vintage fleet. I also heard about the side install of Pakistani ERA FY4, which is supposed to be installed on durjoys, but I'm not sure about this. The upgrades on T59s will not be extensive since it's already on par with Al Zarrar minus the heavier armor add-on in the main chassis... 125mm supposed to be installed on the T69s but idk how they intend to do that without basically rebuilding these tanks to something new... whatever this is upgrading mbt 2000s to haider standards would be more suitable imo

High level talks but keep it private until both sides agree to some sort of settlement.

We should not give our common enemy to take advantage from our past conflict.

Pakistani products exhibition in Dhaka.
