India - US Tariff and Relations | News + Updates

Tell Modi to not come to China begging for help.

China decides to face the US alone, then Shupa Powa Bhrati Empire should also think the same.
Who said to you, "He is coming to get help?"

If you are confident that coming to get help will move the SCO Summit to another country, if he still comes in china, then I will agree with you.

From a Pakistani perspective, Congress is a real long-term challenge . They are very patient.

BJP on the other hand is only a threat, not a challenge that Pakistan can't manage. Just like how we've managed their policy to isolate Pakistan internationally. They seem bamboozled.

Both parties are the same, and let them becoming the flip-flopper.

India has territorial disputes with China and Pakistan that will not be resolved anytime soon. India treated Trump as a Deva and now with tariffs he is Asura. China knows India is now forced to make course correction. India should now agree to BRICS reserve currency and payment system which will compete with US dollar and Swift system.

He had not visited China over the last 6 years, why suddenly the visit right now?

As I speculates several days back, its economic sectoral access Trump wants in India's agricultural sector. Then it's energy, in which U.S. forced India to purchase from Russia initially purchase during Biden Adminstration. [This is no different than Canada protecting its crown jewel, its agriculture sector.]

With neither Brazil nor other major economies striking a deal, he's trying to dangle a threat in front of India, thinking it might fold.

Today, other tariffs across the world are going into effect.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi conceded Thursday that he may “pay a heavy price” as he defended his decision not to bow to US trade threats and face steep tariffs as a result.

“For us, the interest of our farmers is our top priority. India will never compromise on the interests of farmers, fishermen and dairy farmers. I know personally, I will have to pay a heavy price for it, but I am ready for it,” he said.

Trump has been critical of what he sees as India’s protectionist trade policies as well as its continued purchases of Russian oil.

Goods from India are subject to a 25% tariff and could also be subject to an additional 25% tariffstacked on top of that because of an executive order Trump signed Wednesday that seeks to penalize India for purchasing oil from Russia. That second tariff is slated to take effect on August 27.

Modi has been reluctant to cave to US demands to open up its economy to international competitors and halt Russian oil purchases.

If Modi accept USA demands, he will pay much higher costs.

He is in tough situation - we say in Hindi - Ek taraf kuan aur doosri taraf khai

China has recently refused to sell India the Rare earth magnets, high yield fertilizer and boring machines. Indian intransigence has a economic price.

@Fatman17 @Nilgiri I know there is a thread on tarriff but this is a very important Foriagn Policy development and needs separate discussion. THis also explains Mod visit to China and major coordination against Tariff.s

I had heard China had been asking for coordination for several months and now looks like they're getting it.
I don't know how this came about- but there must be a back end deal on this.

India’s sovereignty is non-negotiable': China backs Delhi as Trump threatens tariff hike

Is it on JUST an Indian site or mainstream media like South China Post, CNN, BBC, Bloomberg, etc, etc? Indian media doesn't count as they just do Indian propaganda.
