JF-17 - Updates, News & Discussion

The Changchun Airshow hasn't started yet. It will be held from September 19-23, 2025.
This is a photo from the preparations.
Looks like one of the prototypes of Bravo. Canopy, spine and serial no gave away.

Israel attacked Qatar. It seems as they are going across Muslims nations by picking one country every two months. So that should make us factor in F-35's also in addition to SU-57's coming to India.

With respect to JF-17 project. I wanted to make our members ponder on this real issue. China showcased many large combat UCAVS (Chinese call it UAFS but we'll stick to UCAVS for now). So a custom designed stealth 5th gen UCAV single engine based with a manned and unmanned version to become the PFX deliverable, how would you take this idea?

We can get the initial numbers from China as we have nearly 150 jets to replace, and through a combo of Chinese production plus re-purposing JF-17 production line and training our crew, we could move directly to 5th gen stealth platform. The advance research and equipments being designed for PFX can go into this jet+ucav's systems.

This is a serious proposal. Practical because we are acquiring what's already been through R&D and proven, using both Chinese production and local to get a 5th gen platform in needed numbers and become a majority 5th gen airforce.

Note: We will face: 60 SU-57, 250 SU-30 (super Sukhoi's) + 150 Rafales + 300 mixed combat jets all capable of BVR fights plus 3 layers of S-400 and other air defense layers. So it makes sense to go towards a local 5th gen stealth jet. You can't try to shoot what's invisible on the radar!

Kindly give your opinions.

Nothing but respect for your enthusiasm but in my view what you’re proposing is exponentially more complex than you suggest, not even practical/ possible in some aspects & that’s without consideration for cost.

@Hendarto as you can see from this picture, the block-3 can now carry 6 Pl-15s, clearly it has a larger wing and a stronger landing gear. You can also tell how they have increased the clearance to double stack the dual racks for 12 Pl-15s it times of war. Thought you would appreciate the insight, so tagging you.

Our airchief has laid out a strategy. From 2035, Pakistan will solely focus on 5th gen platforms and by 2045, have majority 5th gen assets. Keep in mind, the strategy isn't a paper drawing of popcorns like you posted. It also takes into account economic projected growth and funding at that time.

The issue is, with India's expanding posture and now Israel needing to be added to the calculus, we need to execute that strategy now. 4th gen is outdated and 4.5th gen is becoming outdated quick when facing 5th gen platforms.

Thanks. This is almost the plan from 2035 onwards. We just need to execute it now in my opinion. I have a feeling that PAF will turn the PFX will turn PFX into a stealthy product.
