JF-17 - Updates, News & Discussion

Well when Pak Prez visited AVIC 2 days ago we saw a Block III but it was not painted, so maybe they did not want to display that at air show?
AVIC's international trading subsidiary, CATIC, has been using a JF-17B3 specifically for foreign trade air show (with the AVIC logo printed on the vertical tail). They have no shortage of show aircraft.
Also could be two seater is being promoted as a LIFT?
There's no further reliable information available at this time.

IMO.
Utilizing the JF-17B platform to develop a UAV command aircraft or an EW fighter is a possible approach. While the JF-17's RD-93 engine offers limited power generation, this could be addressed through engine replacement and a dynamic power distribution system. The resulting performance should be sufficient for Pakistan or other countries with limited military budgets. After all, the prices of the J-20S and J-16D are far beyond the budget and military needs of these countries.

Can you please elaborate more on "this could be addressed through engine replacement and a dynamic power distribution system" especially the part on a dynamic power distribution system? i didnt understand that?

1. UAV command aircraft and dedicated EW fighters do not operate independently. Certain functions on other fighters are not relevant to them. Alternatively, they can be replaced by other fighters in the formation. Therefore, these features can be removed. For example, the J-16D has removed its IRST and cannon. This frees up space for other equipment and reduces unnecessary power consumption.
2. Dedicated EW fighters have a vast array of avionics. These devices are very powerful, but they don't necessarily need to operate at full power simultaneously. When a fighter's power generation capacity is limited, only some equipment can be kept running at high power, while the rest can be reduced or even shut down. This is the dynamic power distribution system.

The WS-21 engine can directly replace the RD-93 engine.
The Fujian aircraft carrier uses a dynamic power distribution system.

Thank you for your time. I know you wont know about the WS-21 engine thrust and power but approximately how much increase thrust it may have from RD-93MA? any guess? and if some abstract idea why WS-21 is more advance and may have more thrust? Thank you in advance

Modern aircraft engines are increasingly prioritizing their power generation rather than the propulsion they provide to the aircraft.
This doesn't mean that engine thrust is neglected. While the total thrust generated by engines is increasing, more of this thrust is being converted into power generation rather than propulsion.

Comparing the specific performance data of the RD-93MA and WS-21 engines is meaningless, as we don't know their true figures. The relationship between them is more like that between Su-35 and J-16.

But we can examine the reality.

The JF-17B3 lacks an IRST, a must-have feature for mainstream 4.5th-generation fighters. As for its other shortcomings, I won't comment.
The WS-21 is a new engine developed for the J-35 export version. It can meet the requirements of a 5th-generation fighter, and of course, the needs of lower-tier 4.5th-generation fighters.

Understood. Thank you.

I have question. What we do to our old planes. Suppose they are 100s old fighter jets so how do we phase out like f 6 etc. I mean why not keep them for terrorism operation or other use as a backup. How do we dump such a large number of jets.

Hi, it depends on a number of factors, some of which are: the number of hours left in each airframe, cost of maintenance and availability of spare parts.

I agree the Mirages can be used as bomb trucks to handle issues on the Western border.

I'm quite sure there will be a return match.
It will be interesting.... This time you can be sure Rafale will be fitted with Meteor.
2019: "Aaj agar Rafales hotay, to nateeja kuchh aur hota."
2025: Aaj agar Meteors hotay, "to nateeja kuchh aur hota."

A frustrated BonPlan.

It is 2025 - and here we are looking at a fighter jet with external HINGES for its canopy design ..

OMG ... and this, after we can see so many simple elegant designs in the world that have already solved this problem.

What were people thinking for god sake ....

Hello guys!

The IAF chief is literally exposing the Indian air fraud but with his own churan. Chalo, at least confirmation to aayi that our CM-400AKGs hit 'something' at Adampur and Bhuj with such a massive kinetic impact, it must have shook those entire areas!

@Panzerkiel @side-winder

@BonPlan @Raj-Hindustani but all missiles were intercepted sar?

IAF Chief has proven himself to be nothing less then a joker.
After 2 months, "oh we forgot to tell, we also shot down 'some' large aircraft 300 kms away. we dont know which aircraft but it was large" LOL!

So, its really waste of time to even discuss what he has to say about S400 or anything. We can do just for entertainment only though.
