You should check the historical records.
Your description of the J-35 naval carrier version is correct, but the J-35A air force version is incorrect.

The J-35A has been officially named "云龙"!
Chinese Pinyin: Yun Long
English Translation: Cloud Dragon(Dragon in the Cloud)

Note:
This refers to the J-35A, the official PLAAF version.
It does not include the naval carrier-based J-35, which is officially called the "蓝鲨(Blue Shark)."

In theory, the export version of the FC-31/J-35 will continue to use the PLAAF's nomenclature, meaning it will also be called "Cloud Dragon." However, until the official announcement is made, this is just speculation.

Chinese finally have now caught up with Western fighter engines. I very well expect that in the next decade they will surpass Western engines.

Considering the WS-15 engines are being fielded on the J-20s, the core technology should be the same for the WS-19.

If the PLAN accepts to field the WS-19 engines, they must have achieved enough reliability, to be fielded on J-35, which will be crucial for the needs of carrier aviation.
 
Unfortunately there are a lot of unknowns with chinese engines. We know there are lots of chinese engines, but do they have the same MTBO, service life, service intervals, thrust/weight ratio, fuel efficiency as the latest western engines? They may have, we just dont know as that information is not available unfortunately.

China has made alot of progress for sure, but to me, still alot of unknowns.

I confirmed this a long time ago. However, some people have questioned it.
I can't speak for anything else. However, on this issue, I definitely know more and more accurately than Yankee.

Let me repeat. Only the PLAAF-purchased version equipped with the WS-19 engine can be called the J-35A. This is the only correspondence. Therefore, any PLAAF-purchased version must be equipped with the WS-19 engine.

They are in fact not! Corrently all operational ones are using WS-10C2 engines.
 
If this WS-19 news is true, it only points out the fact that Chinese media control is well contemplated mechanism where informaiton of milestones achieved few years back is released as current to keep the adversaries miguided about actual current level of R&D. This happened in WS-15 case as well. For years we heard that targeted 180KN per engine was not being achieved and things stuck at 161KN and then suddenly it was revealed that all issues resolved and engine is in mass production for J-20s.
 
@Deino are the WS-19s on the J-35A? I'm seeing rumors on twitter that the engines fitted are WS-19s and not WS-13E/WS-21, is this news accurate? Is China finally ready with both the WS-15 and WS-19s?
