As Pakistan's army chief turns on hardline Islamist groups, blasphemy cases plummet

Mullahs should be kept out of Politics - it just isn't their domain. Any state controlled or influenced by them is essentially a failed state.

Anyone who challanges the mullah mentality or Ummah mentality is a "European wannabe." Anyone who challanges Europeanization is a mullah.

I remember at my former private school in Karachi the German class graduates were dressed as Germans and doing a German belle' dance.

A woman commenting on the news article wrote something like good for the children doing this otherwise they'd end up in maddrasah and turn into mullahs. Like seriously.

For everyday items that impact the common man, low IQ Afghan savages are doing a better job despite having no port, infrastructure and a semblance of modern society than the Einsteins of GHQ Pindi....

Key Fuel & Staple Food Comparison

CommodityAfghanistan (Average)Pakistan (Average)Key Takeaway
Petrol (Gasoline)~$1.34 / liter (~87 AFN)~$1.40 / liter (~Rs. 387.54)Fuel in Pakistan has soared roughly 46% since regional disruptions began. Afghanistan maintains a slight price advantage due to lower localized tax structures and diversified trade corridors.
Diesel~$1.07 / liter (~70 AFN)~$1.45 / liter (~Rs. 402.24)High diesel costs in Pakistan heavily inflate the transportation of inland goods, further straining food prices.
Wheat Flour~$0.45 – $0.50 / kg (~29.5 – 32 AFN)~$0.48 – $0.56 / kg (~Rs. 132 – 155)Staple flour is closely priced, but Pakistan faces a severe domestic wheat production deficit of over 2 million tonnes, forcing emergency imports.
Cooking Oil~$1.85 / kg (~120.1 AFN)~$1.95 / kgBorder closures and trade restrictions have periodically spiked the cost of edible oils in Afghanistan, which relies on Pakistani and Iranian entry points.
Incomes in Pakistan are much higher than in Afghanistan. So while we may be paying slightly more, Pakistanis have much greater affordability and disposable incomes than Afghans. The "diversified trade corridors" :) in Afghanistan is a nicer way of saying "smuggling". Despite the slight price advantage, more than 80% of the Afghan population lives impoverished.
Our women get to go to schools and work, we have a functioning government, local governments work, taxation works, Pakistani economy is integrated into the world economy, agricultural and industrial outputs are sizable, we are part of all the relevant regional power blocks etc. etc.

Not sure what more to make of the rest of the usual tirades against Pindi/GHQ and what not. Frankly, its comical to compare the two countries (this is not from a place of arrogance, rather reflecting the reality while hoping betterment for Afghans and Pakistanis alike) despite whatever political persuasion you may have.

For what it's worth, this is good news. Perhaps the tide is turning, and these Islamists are losing support after years of ascendancy. Perhaps people are too busy trying to survive to worry about blasphemy or whatever Islamists are trying to sell. (y)
Islamist as a Christian islamophobic word,...

There's no such thing as an islamist or a christianist or a Jewist

You are engaging in semantics.

Yes, there's no such thing as a Christianist or Jewist, but there are Christian nationalists, fundamentalists, and extremists. Every religion has them: Christians, Jews, Hindus, and Muslims.

Perhaps it's time for Pakistanis to relocate to Kabul.. :)

If currency conversion was the formula being used to judge "economy being better", then its time for us to revisit macro-economics.

Compared to the mighty Afghani, the poor Yen is worth only 1.77 PKR. I am sure the Japanese are suffering enmass.

In reality, the Afghan economy is in dire straits. It is essentially a barter economy. There is no FDI, there is no growth and it is kept running by smuggling of all sort of goods as well as currencies including PKR and USD.

As a reminder, Pakistan's economy and its associated credit rating is a solid 'B' with a stable outlook. Afghan economy has no rating (even though I wish them better).

Afghanistan:
  • Nominal GDP (2026 est.): ~$19.66 billion
  • Real GDP Growth: Modest stabilization estimated between 1.5% and 1.9%
  • Poverty Rate: Nearly 75% to 88% of the population lives in or near poverty, exacerbated by aid cuts and drought
  • Inflation (2026): Volatile, hovering around 7.6%
This silly self-flagellation is on account of some people's issues with the current political landscape which they feel entitles them to bad-mouth Pakistan all the time. Their mood here reminds one of the Iranian diaspora in the West (the Shah lovers) who are never happy with anything good that happens in Iran. It is a never-ending doom and gloom narrative about Iran, including bad-mouthing own country etc.
calm down sir. we have lot more contribution and still contributing to helpless poor in Pakistan " Alhamdulillah" . I don t want to write the corruption stories of military and elite here. , its useless and waste of time for me.
Asim Munir -Zardari-Nawaz Sharif is not Pakistan. Pakistan is for Pakistani people and those work for the nation.
If any solider do the job , he got paid for the services , don't like it , can quit the job and do something else. Come to VA, I introduce you top military boys and show there living style and humbleness.
