Balochistan Terrorism Watch

The rise in militancy has caused significant foreign investment blockages in the country. National Counter Terrorism Authority (Nacta) has said that twenty Chinese citizens have been killed and 34 injured in terrorist attacks in the country since 2021.

The October airport bombing that killed two Chinese engineers returning to work on a project after a holiday in Thailand was the latest in a string of high-profile attacks on Beijing’s interests in Pakistan.

The attack was claimed by the banned outfit BLA. Police registered a first information report against leaders of the BLA and others three days after the incident.

Six killed across Balochistan

Six people, including a police officer and a dacoit, were killed in an armed clash, firing and a police encounter in Mastung, Zhob, Bolan and Turbat areas of Balochistan, police said on Monday.

According to police officials, a constable was martyred and a dacoit killed during a heavy exchange of fire in the Chotu Mills area on the outskirts of Mastung town late on Sunday night.

The officials said armed dacoits snatched a pickup and fled. The vehicle owner reported the theft to the local police, who began chasing the dacoits. The dacoits opened fire, prompting the police to return fire. As a result of the hour-long exchange of fire, one dacoit was killed.

Constable Shaukat Jan Shahwani was martyred in the gunfight, while two vehicle owners were injured. The bodies of the police officer and the unidentified dacoit were taken to the district hospital in Mastung. Further investigation is underway.

In another incident, unknown armed men blocked the CPEC highway in the Josak area of Turbat and searched all passing vehicles, including passenger buses, for about two hours.

During the search, the armed men forcibly removed a man from a vehicle and later killed him. He was identified as Muhammad Sharif, a resident of Taunsa Sharif in Punjab. His body was shifted to the Turbat district hospital.

Security forces were deployed to the area after receiving information about the incident, and a search operation was launched.

In Zhob, two people were gunned down by unknown assailants. According to police, the armed men opened fire on a vehicle near the Zhob bus station, killing two passengers, identified as Sohail Harifal and Muhammad Saleh. Their bodies were sent to the district hospital for medico-legal procedures.

In Bolan, one person was killed in an armed clash between two tribal groups in the Sanni area. Levies officials said the conflict stemmed from a land dispute between the two tribes.

A policeman was martyred in Quetta when unidentified assailants shot him dead in the early hours of Thursday as he was returning home from work, police told Dawn.com.

According to Rabia Tariq, Public Relations Officer for the Balochistan Inspector General of Police, the victim, Mehboob Shah, was returning home via the Manu Jan Road when the suspects gunned him down.

“The suspects ambushed him in front of his house, opened fire on him and fled,” Tariq told Dawn.com.

“Policeman Mehboob Shah died on the spot. His body was shifted to a hospital, before being handed over to his family for burial after funeral prayers at Quetta Civil Lines.”

She added that the policeman had completed a shift at the United Nations office in a housing scheme in Quetta.

No further details were provided.

In September last year, a police officer was martyred in Quetta when unidentified gunmen opened fire on his car.

Sub-Inspector Amanullah was on his way to the Amir Muhammad Shaheed police station for duty when his vehicle came under attack near his home in the Killi Deeba area.

The cop was seriously injured in the attack, later succumbing to his injuries at Civil Hospital. “The cop, who was working as an investigation officer, received multiple bullet injuries,” hospital officials said, adding that the body was handed over to the police after completing medicolegal formalities.

Police termed the attack “target killing” and said an investigation was underway.
