I don't understand about Xiaomi su7 sales.

During the pre-order report, Xiaomi sells 70,000 cars.

And they also have a factory that able to produce 1 car for each 50 seconds, if I'm not wrong.

But yet, their sales report is just 3300 monthly.

Where is the 70,000 orders???

I think the 3,300 is weekly.

Rising is one of the many SAIC brands which seem little different from one another and it was initially just known as R. The first car the R ER6 was a fully electric version of the Roewe ei6. Word earlier this year was that SAIC was about to drop the brand. However, the listing of the new Rising RC7 last month by MIIT and now the spy shots of the interior suggest all might not be lost for the brand.

Given the similar size between the RC7 and the exiting Rising R7 it was thought that they might be closely related. However, rather than a fastback shape the RC7 has a squared out back. There is though a definite family resemblance between the two cars. Regarding the RC7 name the R stands for Rising while the C is apparently Cosy and the 7 is the product positioning.
Where the RC7 differs significantly from its R7 sibling is with the interior which is very much a departure from current Rising models. The overall setup in the RC7 is quite similar to that of Li Auto models. There is a dual screen setup for the center infotainment unit and the adjoining passenger entertainment screen. Although not very apparent from the pictures Autohome reports that there is still a slender LCD instrument panel behind the steering wheel rather than abandoning this in favor of a HUD as in the Li cars.

While the screen setup is very different the steering wheel is carried over from existing models. A three-spoke design it has two tracker ball-type controllers and two buttons under each. Going hand in hand with the redistribution of screen space the design of air conditioning vents and other elements of the dashboard have changed.
Externally the car has quite a simple design. At the front there are two clearly defined separate light clusters while at the back there is a through light bar design. The car has concealed door handles and mounted on top of the windshield is a Lidar unit.
The Rising RC7 measures in at 4860, 1920 and 1660 mm (l/w/h) and the wheelbase is 2935 mm. Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) listing information consisted of four different entries for the RC7. Three were for straight BEV versions while the other was for a battery-swappable version. Curb weights range between 1990 and 2065 kg.

All versions use the same TZ204XS1351 150 kW electric motor. According to version some use lithium iron phosphate batteries while others use ternary lithium. Those that use lithium iron phosphate batteries have a top speed of 196 km/h while those with the ternary batteries top out at 200 km/h. All batteries are produced by the SAIC CATL joint venture factory. Lower spec versions of the Rising RC7 do not come with Lidar.
Earlier this year at the Geneva show SAIC showed two Rising models, the F7 and R7 rebranded as the MG 9 liftback and the MG S9 fastback SUV respectively. It is possible that the RC7 will undergo a similar treatment and be exported as an MG. However, a launch in Europe given that SAIC now attracts a 38.1% tariff for EVs is less likely. The car is likely to go on sale in China in the third quarter with prices starting around 200,000 yuan (27,500 USD).

Latest information gives the launch date of the Onvo L60 as September 10 and pre-sales have already begun priced at 219,900 yuan (30,250 USD). We now have interior spy shots of the Tesla Model Y competitor, from Nio’s mass-market brand Onvo.

Not only is the Onvo L60 squarely aimed as a Model Y competitor there is a degree of similarity with the minimalistic interior shown in the spy shots. Like Tesla, there is only one screen in the Onvo L60. A 17.2-inch 3K retina screen it floats from the uncluttered dashboard. However, the big difference with Tesla is that although there is only the one screen, the Onvo L60 gets a 13-inch HUD for driving information. This means that driving information can be displayed on either the HUD or central screen unlike in the Tesla Models 3 and Y where everything is on the one screen.
Unfortunately, the spy shots of the interior are not particularly good quality. However, as best we can tell the steering wheel seems to have only two scroll wheels and possibly some other control on the outside of each. It has a squashed oval shape and is a three-spoke design.

In the center console there looks to be dual wireless phone charging pads with side-by-side drinks holders and followed by a split opening storage compartment. It seems there are no physical buttons in the cars. Drive selection is via a steering column mounted stalk.
The front seats were self-developed by Nio and the backrests can lie completely flat and connect to the rear row, no doubt in order to offer the all-important snooze mode. Although we can tell little from the spy shots of the rear bench reports indicate that there will be an 8-inch entertainment screen and the seats will have electrical adjustment. What is more obvious from the pictures is the single unbroken panoramic roof. Previously William Li, Nio’s founder, did a livestream sitting in the back and said that he fitted comfortably despite being 180 cm.
Earlier this month key information about the Onvo L60 was revealed in the MIIT listing, without which no car can go on sale in China. Dimensions are 4828, 1930, and 1616 mm (l/w/h) with the wheelbase 2950 mm. Depending on the version weight is 1,885 kg – 1,970 kg, while the drag coefficient is Cd 0.229.

Despite being aimed as a more affordable car than a Nio the RWD version of the Onvo L60 still uses a relatively powerful TZ188S001 240 kW motor. The AWD version adds a YS198S001 motor with 100 kW power to the front axle boosting the top speed to 203 km/h up from 200 km/h in the RWD.
Onvo will use battery packs of 60 and 90 kWh which contain lithium iron phosphate batteries soured from BYD subsidiary FinDreams. Ranges are believed to be 550 and 730 km respectively when fitted to the RWD version. Energy consumption is as low as 12.1 kWh/100 km.

Today at the 2024 Mobile World Congress in Shanghai StarWin Satcom and Dongfeng’s Mengshi jointly unveiled the communications command version of the M-Hero 917.

It’s claimed to be the world’s first vehicle-installed integrated 5G+A/6G base station solution. The technology provides the vehicle with strong communications capabilities, whether in urban or remote areas, to ensure a stable network connection.
Satellite communications come via a RUV-900 ultra-thin phased array dynamic satellite Internet terminal. This enables full Ku-band coverage, nanosecond electronic scanning antennas, up to 100Mbps on-board bandwidth, and fast auto-lock satellite networking. What this means is that users can have real-time, unrestricted and secure video calls while performing tasks in complex environments, and ensuring rapid upload of data such as pictures and instructions.

The vehicle may actually be genuine rather than some show concept with Fast Technology reporting that it will used in situations like emergency support, search and rescue, and in situations where confidential communications are required.
The M-Hero 917 is produced by Dongfeng and also gets referred to as the Mengshi 917 and Warrior. It publicly debuted at last year’s Shanghai Auto Show and deliveries began in 2023. Both full EV and EREV versions are available. Fully electric versions use a 142.7 kWh CATL Qilin battery which gives 505 km range.
The satellite dish mounted on the roof of the Mengshi 917 communications command vehicle
The communications command version however is based on the range-extended version of the M-Hero 917. It uses a 1.5T DFMC15TP1 engine as the range extender which maximum power of 145 kW. Unlike the fully electric 917 it has three rather than four electric motors and the total power of these is 600 kW down from 800 kW on the EV.

Dimensions of the communications command version are 5096, 2080 and 2314 (l/w/h) and the wheelbase is 2950 mm. Curb weight is 3500 kg. Battery capacity is 65.8 kWh and the combined range is 600 km (CLTC).
And as further proof that the car is badass, it meets the Class B explosion-proof standard of public security, coming with explosion-proof coating, TPE glass explosion-proof film, and run-flat tires. No doubt with specs like these that we will see the car in the next Wolf Warrior film.

We thought that the Xpeng Mona M03 was going to be unveiled last week, it wasn’t. Instead, Xpeng seems to be intent on teasing us with information bit by bit. Last week it was the low drag coefficient. This week it’s that the trunk space is 621 liters.

What’s more news to us, though, is the picture that accompanies the announcement. We had assumed the Xpeng Mona M03 was a regular sedan, especially given the Didi involvement and our current understanding that the car will at least partially be aimed as a ride-hailing model. Certainly, from previous pictures it looked as if it was just a regular sedan. We can now see, that the car is actually a hatchback with a fastback design.
This seems to be a design trend with EVs and notable examples include the Mercedes-Benz EQS and the Volkswagen ID.7, From Xpeng’s announcement we now know that all versions of the Mona M03 will come with an electric tailgate as standard. The opening width is 1136 mm. Xpeng is claiming that with 621 liters it is first in its class for storage space.

Last week when Xpeng announced the Mona M03 was the “the world’s lowest drag production pure electric hatchback sedan” we were confused and thought it was just something lost in translation. Now it seems that it was actually accurate although fastback would probably be a better description. The drag coefficient for the car is Cd 0.194. This was achieved by various aerodynamic tweaks which shaved Cd 0.085 off the figure.
Xpeng says that these changes add 60 km to the range. We know from the MIIT listings that there are three different weights for the car, according to specifications, coming in at 1631, 1661 and 1739 kg respectively. These are relatively light and so this leads us to believe there may yet be a surprise when it comes to the M03’s range – we have been led to believe that it is around 550 km.
The Mona M03 measures in at 4780, 1896 and 1445 mm (l/w/h) and had a wheelbase of 2815 mm. Xpeng claims the dimensions are very close to the golden ratio.

Battery power comes from BYD subsidiary FinDreams supplied blade batteries; capacities of the packs are currently unknown but there should be two different sizes. Lower powered cars use a 140 kW electric motor while more powerful versions have a 160 kW motor.
Sales are likely to begin around the end of the third quarter. He Xiaopeng, Xpeng’s CEO, said in the 2024 earnings call that they expect the Mona M03 will become a superstar product in the A-class pure electric market. Prices are expected to top out around 150,000 yuan (20,650 USD).

Earlier this year BYD unveiled the flagship Yangwang U7 sedan which is part of its Yangwang brand. The car has already opened presales and should officially launch during the second half of the year. What we now know is that the Yangwang U7 comes with four-wheel steering and that the turning circle for the new car is less than that of BYD’s smallest car, the Seagull.

The Yangwang has two-way 20° intelligent rear wheel steering along with an easy four-wheel agile steering function. BYD recently demonstrated what all that jargon means in practice when they pitted a Yangwang U7, one of the most expensive cars produced by the company, against the BYD Seagull, the smallest and cheapest. While the Yangwang (see specs) measures in at 5265, 1998 and 1528 mm (l/w/h) the BYD Seagull (see specs) is just 3780, 1715 and 1540 mm. Obviously, the difference in length is considerable.
For the test a 10-meter wide test ground was used. Firstly a course requiring the cars to complete a U turn was laid out and the Yangwang U7 following on from the Seagull had no problem completing the turn. Then the turning circle was tested with the Yangwang achieving a radius of 4.85 meters which was better than the Seagull’s 4.95 meters. And for the cynics, 4.95 meters is the official turning radius for the Seagull.

The U7 forms the flagship sedan for BYD’s upmarket Yangwang brand, there is also believed to be a wagon version on its way. Prices for the sedan are expected to be around a million yuan (137,550 USD). Each wheel gets a 326 horsepower electric motor for a total of 1306 hp. Thanks to a 135.5 kWh blade battery range is 800 km.
BYD claims that Yangwang is the world’s lowest drag coefficient production car in the world with a result of Cd 0.195 at 120 km/h. However, this is actually higher than the Cd 0.194 result of the Xpeng Mona M03 – although it is not clear if this result was done under the same conditions.
Through a combination of sheer power and slipperiness acceleration is 2.9 seconds and top speed is 270 km/h. Meanwhile thanks to carbon ceramic brake discs the stopping distance from 100 km/h is 33 meters.

The Yangwang U7 rides on the same e4 platform as the Yangwang U9 sports car. It will also debut the new DiSus-Z suspension system. Interestingly the suspension movements are used for energy recovery to charge the battery.
Also featured on the car will be the new TianShen “eye of the gods” intelligent driving system. With 508 TOPS computing power it takes input from a suite of sensors consisting of 3 Lidar units, 5 millimeter wavelength radars, and 13 cameras. It will offer high-end driving assistance at both high speed and in urban areas.

On June 27, Renault Korea officially revealed the Grand Koleos crossover at the Busan International Motor Show 2024. This SUV appears to be the twin model of the Chinese Geely Monjaro (Xingyue L). It stands on the CMA platform and adopts ICE and PHEV powertrain variants.

Busan International Motor Show 2024 (BIMOS 2024) has kicked off today with a press day. It is one of the biggest automotive shows in Korea, participated by Renault, Kia, Hyundai, BMW, Genesis, and other car makers. Today, the Renault Grand Koleos has attracted lots of eyes at the exhibition. Interestingly, it is based on the Geely Monjaro crossover, popular in China and overseas.

Why Grand Koleos is based on a Chinese car

Our regular readers know Geely and Renault have had some close ties since 2022. That year, Geely Group acquired a third of Renault Korea’s stake. Later, these companies formed a 50-50 joint venture aimed at developing and producing powertrain systems.

CMA architecture
In 2023, Geely and Renault made headlines once again. According to French automaker’s “International Game Plan 2027”, its upcoming high-end D and E-segment models will adopt the CMA architecture. CMA is Compact Modular Architecture developed jointly by Geely and Volvo. It currently underpins a wide range of cars, including Volvo XC40, Geely Tugella, Geely Atlas, Geely Monjaro, Geely Galaxy L7, Geely Preface, Lynk & Co 01, Lynk & Co 03, Lynk & Co 05, etc.
Aside from the CMA platform, future Renault cars were said to use an E-Tech PHEV system with 2WD or 4WD. The 4WD system adopts a petrol engine paired with a 48V EMS on the front axle. On the rear axle, it has an additional electric motor. On June 27, the first car from Renault Korea based on the CMA platform debuted at the BIMOS 2024.

More about Renault Grand Koleos

The Renault Grand Koleos is a mid-size crossover with a body length of 4780 mm. Its wheelbase reaches 2820 mm. According to Renault Korea representatives, the Grand Koleos’ wheelbase is the longest in the class.

CarNewsChina has immediately recognized the Geely Monjaro SUV in this model. It has the same pattern of the LED headlights and a similar taillight unit as the Grand Koleos. These cars are also close in terms of proportions. However, all the exterior panels of the Korean SUV differ from the Monajro. The front end of the Grand Koleos adopts a frameless grille and a sporty bumper.
Interior of the Renault Grand Koleos
The interior of the Grand Koleos has fewer changes from its “elder brother”. It adopts a distinguishing interior styling with a twin screen in the center console. The center tunnel has a wireless phone charging pad, a retractable gear shifter, and two cup holders.
The ICE variant of the Renault Grand Koleos adopts a 2-liter turbocharged engine paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. It supports FWD and 4WD drive types. There is also a PHEV version with a 1.5-liter engine paired with e-motor and DHT gearbox. The combined power output of this system reaches 245 hp.

Briefly on Geely Monjaro

Geely Monjaro SUV (Xingyue L)
Geely Monjaro has been selling in China since 2021 under Xingyue L’s name. It is a five-seat SUV with dimensions of 4770/1895/1698 mm and a wheelbase of 2845 mm. The entry-level variant of the Geely Monjaro has a 2-liter ICE for 218 hp on board paired with 2WD and 7DCT. The 4WD version has the same 2-liter engine with 20 more horses and 8AT. In China, Geely Monjaro (Xingyue L) costs 137,200 – 185,200 yuan (18,900 – 25,500 USD).
Geely Monjaro (Xingyue L) interior
In the first five months of 2024, Geely sold 74,818 units of Monjaro domestically. This car is also popular in overseas countries. However, it seems that Renault also aims to conquer international markets with the twin model of the Geely vehicle.

Today Geely released its latest generation self-developed and self-produced Aegis battery. Known as the short knife, or dagger, battery it takes a similar approach to BYD’s well-known blade battery. A lithium iron phosphate battery the new generation pushes the boundaries with regards to safety, cycle life, fast charging capacity and low-temperature discharge performance.

Most importantly energy density is now 192 Wh/kg which is comparable to ternary lithium batteries. The battery is shorter, only 580 mm long compared to the 960 mm length which is more common on the market. In addition, the volume is more compact so helping increase the energy density.
Geely at the press conference was keen to emphasize the safety test results of the battery. For a long time the nail test has been BYD’s party piece but it seems that Geely is now getting in on the trick as well. After 7 minutes 55 seconds there was no fire, no explosion, no smoke and the surface temperature of the battery did not exceed 40°C. A similar result was achieved when the battery pack was immersed in seawater. With the three-sided drop and heavy hit the battery was then left for 2 hours without any adverse reaction. Other tests were similarly passed with flying colors.

New generation Aegis battery nail test result
Geely has reportedly applied for the registration of “Geely bulletproof batteries” and “Aegis bulletproof batteries” trademarks, internationally classified as Class 9. Geely claims the batteries have a military-grade safety level.
The new generation Aegis battery will debut on the Geely Galaxy E5 which will launch in early August. They will feature in both the 49.52 and 60.22 kWh packs delivering 440 and 530 kilometers CLTC range respectively. Also featured on the car is the Galaxy 11-in-1 intelligent electric drive system, and the E5 will have power consumption as low as 11.9 kWh/100 km.

Editor’s note:

Geely despite trying with its Blue Geely Initiative, announced in 2015, struggled until recently to make the switch to new energy vehicles. Now, however, the rivalry between Geely and BYD is really hotting up as evidenced recently by the war of words over BYD’s DM 5.0 system. The new generation Aegis battery seems a preemptive strike against BYD’s second generation blade battery which should be arriving soon.

At the WEF’s 2024 ‘Summer Davos’ Event in Dalian, on June 26th, Wan Gang, the chairman of the China Association for Science and Technology, predicted that China’s electric vehicle production is expected to exceed 10 million units this year. According to 2023 data, this would be a nearly 30% year-on-year production increase.

Wan acknowledged that the electric vehicle industry in China is facing some challenges. He cited issues like installing charging piles in old residential communities and solving charging problems on highways, especially during the tourist season. Wan stated that the industry also needs to improve digitalization to provide drivers with information on charging times and locations, so they don’t have to worry about finding a place to charge.
Attendees at Summer Davos 2024
Regarding the “frenzy” seen in China’s electric vehicle industry, Wan pointed out that this is a kind of “transformation anxiety.” He explained that automotive market competition has always been fierce, but it should be healthy, to meet diverse customer needs. Yet currently, Chinese electric vehicle companies are too eager, all wanting to grab a larger market share. Wan believes Chinese automakers should focus more on reaching their target customers and emphasizing electric vehicle quality, rather than just competing on low prices.

Mr. Wan Gang
When responding to trade barriers set up by the EU and US, including an influx of tariffs, Wan stated that the trend towards electric vehicles is an unstoppable one, and China should firmly continue down this path despite any bumps along the way. He thinks foreign markets are surprised or even alarmed by Chinese electric vehicles because trade and investment haven’t yet been well integrated. Wan suggests that Chinese new energy companies can start trying to invest in Europe, which would allow them to enter the local industry chain and accelerate globalization. With many Chinese car makers setting up factories in other countries as well, it is becoming clear that Chinese companies will be leaders in the global market.

As we reported on spy shots of the Xiaomi MX11 SUV less than a week ago, fans were so eager to learn what it may look like that they took it upon themselves to generate rendered pictures that seemed to have been accurately generated based on the leaked images.

Earlier, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun stated Xiaomi would not compete in the saturated new energy SUV market but would launch more affordable, cost-effective extended-range models instead. However, Lei’s statement was a smokescreen. Following the success of the Xiaomi SU7, Xiaomi is set to launch its second vehicle, codename MX11. The Xiaomi SU7 (see specs) is known for its Porsche-inspired design, with Porsche acknowledging the design synergy. The internet is comparing the upcoming MX11 with Ferrari’s Purosangue.
From Sugar Design
The Xiaomi SU7 has quickly become a favorite among young Chinese consumers. Within four minutes of its release, it had received over 10,000 orders and reached 50,000 in just 27 minutes. Xiaomi expects to deliver 120,000 units of the SU7 in 2024.

Recent leaks show that the MX11, Xiaomi’s first SUV, is in the testing phase. Spy photos reveal a sleek vehicle with yellow brake calipers and a streamlined body. The SUV features a long wheelbase and short overhangs, promising spacious interiors.
Despite the design debates, we believe the MX11 will share the same platform as the SU7. It will focus on a “performance SUV coupe” profile appealing to young drivers. The MX11 is expected to offer more interior space, particularly for the rear passengers, than the SU7. Not to mention extra storage space in the trunk.
Pricing for the MX11 is anticipated to be higher than the SU7 but competitive against rivals like the Tesla Model Y. The MX11 is poised to significantly impact the competitive electric performance SUV coupe segment, where models like the Ford Mustang Mach-E, Denza N7, and IM LS6 have struggled to gain traction.

We expect Xiaomi to release the MX11 by early 2025. The company is also developing other models, including a cost-efficient third model, codenamed “Kunlun,” which is expected to be priced around 150,000 RMB. One may even consider this model to be the start of the Redmi line-up. For those unfamiliar with Redmi, it is a sub-brand from Xiaomi that offers more affordable smartphones.
With heavy investments in new business areas, Xiaomi aims to become one of the top five global car manufacturers within 15 to 20 years. Focusing initially on the domestic market, Xiaomi plans to leverage its brand strength and Lei Jun’s influence to capture the young consumer segment and replicate the success of the SU7 with the MX11. It promises to combine sporty design, advanced features, and competitive pricing to attract new drivers.
