Chery, a leading Chinese automobile manufacturer, has recently unveiled two updated affordable small car models: the Ice Cream and the Little Ant. These vehicles target budget-conscious consumers looking for compact and economical transportation options. The Little Ant was updated last year, while the Ice Cream hasn’t changed much since 2022.

The little Ant is on the right and the Ice Cream on the left
The Ice Cream and Little Ant models are attractively priced and offer great value for money. The Little Ant’s price range starts at 59,900 yuan (8,200 USD) and goes up to 74,900 yuan (10,300 USD), while the Ice Cream model is even more affordable, with prices ranging from 29,900 yuan (4,100 USD) to 43,900 yuan (6,000 USD). Notably, this is a significant price decrease for the Little Ant, which started at 10,600 USD last year.
As special editions aimed at young consumers, the Ice Cream and Little Ant have undergone adjustments and refinements in details and features. The Ice Cream model, in particular, introduces two new variants: the 120km Vanilla and the 205km Milkshake. Additionally, all models come with the Pure Green exterior color option and are equipped with a standard reverse camera and a 9-inch touchscreen display.

In terms of exterior design, the Little Ant features elongated headlights, a closed front grille, and a prominent X-shaped design formed by square lines and black grilles on the lower part of the front bumper. The Chery emblem has been replaced by the lettering “QQ.” The side profile showcases an upward-sloping waistline, slightly protruding front and rear fenders, recessed doors, and enclosed wheel rims, making the car look cute. At the rear, the car has small smoked taillights, a large black bumper decoration, and a small-sized roof spoiler. The dimensions of the new Little Ant are 3200/1670/1550 mm, and its wheelbase is 2150 mm.

Inside the cabin, the Little Ant boasts a fully digital LCD instrument panel and a larger LCD screen in the center console. The smartphone connectivity feature allows users to control various functions remotely. The interior design incorporates a dual-tone color scheme. The Little Ant also offers upgraded comfort features, including a black interior with green stitching, a new UI theme, and six additional comfort enhancements. Furthermore, Chery provides various purchase incentives, such as a 999 yuan factory-installed intelligent large screen for the Ice Cream model.

In terms of powertrain options, the Little Ant offers two versions with different ranges. Both versions feature a rear-mounted electric motor with a maximum output of 41 horsepower and a peak torque of 95 Nm. The 251-kilometer range variant is equipped with a 25.05 kWh battery pack, while the 301-kilometer range variant comes with a larger 29.23 kWh battery pack. Additionally, the vehicles support fast charging, allowing the battery to be charged from 30% to 80% in 40 minutes.

With the introduction of the Ice Cream and Little Ant models, Chery aims to provide cost-effective and environmentally friendly transportation solutions to consumers who prioritize affordability and efficiency. These small cars are expected to attract young urban drivers and those seeking a reliable and economical means of transportation in crowded city environments.

New spy shots have emerged of the Onvo L60. Onvo is the English name for Nio’s new mass-market brand previously known by the codename Alps. The Chinese name for the new brand is 乐道 (Ledao).

Although we have previously seen leaked pictures of an uncamouflaged Onvo L60 the spy shots of this camouflaged version show off the lines of the new car better.
From the pictures we can clearly see some family resemblance between Nio and the Onvo brand with the split headlight design and closed style at the front. Second generation Nio cars have a very prominent watchtower suite of sensors at the top of the windshield. With Onvo it seems there are still high definition cameras but there is no longer a central Lidar unit. This will likely mean that self-driving ability will be largely restricted to the highway.

Nio swap station specifications mean that any car using them has to have a wheelbase of more than 2800 mm and Fast Technology estimates the Onvo L60 will have a length of between 4.7 and 4.8 meters. We can see from the side pictures that the L60 has hidden door handles, distinctive alloys and a slightly upturned spoiler.
Nio CEO William Li recently did a video from the inside of the Onvo L60. He is 1.8 meters tall and it seems that he comfortably fits into the second row even with someone sitting in front. The car in the video came with a panoramic roof and brown seats which could either be leather or synthetic leather.
We know that the car has been benchmarked against the Tesla Model Y but will be priced around 10% lower and come with features such as a fridge, color TV and sofa like seats.

Trial production model were produced last October and the Onvo L60 will be revealed mid-May before being launched in the third quarter with deliveries commencing in the fourth quarter.
Nio CEO William Li in the back seat of the Onvo L60
In a break from the mainstream Nio brand’s all dual motor versions the Onvo L60 will be single motor most likely on the rear axle. Presumably Onvo will not offer a dual motor version, or at least not initially. The car will certainly be battery-swappable but there is some speculation as to what kind of batteries the car will have. It is known that Nio have both 60 and 90 kWh LFP batteries which currently haven’t been used on any Nio cars and so it is most likely that these will be used by Onvo. Possibly the 60 in the Onvo L60 actually refers to the battery size.
Prices will likely be in the 200,000 – 300,000 yuan (27,800 – 41,700 USD) region with Onvo positioned below Nio models. We are also now seeing pictures of the Firefly brand from Nio which is specifically aimed at the European market.

Previous Chinese reports indicated that that the Zeekr MIX was a six seater despite the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) listing stating it is a five seater. From new spy pictures of the interior we can see that there is indeed a six seater in a 3+3 arrangement like in a Fiat Multipla, luckily the MIX is a better looking car.

With the Zeekr X the brand tried to create a transforming car to really utilize the space and this ethos has been carried over to the new MIX. In the six seater the middle seat in the front row is convertible meaning that the back rest can fold down to act as an armrest. Judging from the pictures it seem there is some form of storage compartment accessible when it is folded down. In five seat cars there is high center console which could from the looks of it be movable, most likely on rails.
The center screen should be movable to the left and right as in the Zeekr 007. Meanwhile in another carry over from the Zeekr 007 there is a small wrap round instrument panel. The steering wheel is also similar to in the 007 with buttons on the left and right hand sides.

As noted before the seatbelts are integrated into the front seats and each seat has a fold down armrest on the outside of the seat along with a grab handle presumably to help ingress the back. We can also see from the pictures that the A-pillar has a triangular window to help with visibility.
On the driver’s side there is a normal opening door and a sliding door for the rear passenger whereas on the other side there is a split sliding door. In the back both the outside seats get adjustable, presumably electric, leg rests.
Outside the Zeekr MIX adopts the Hidden Energy design language seen in the Zeekr 007 and had a rounded front face and slim headlights. The use of black above the waistline, around the lights and on the air intake give the Zeekr MIX presence.

With a wheelbase of 3008 mm despite dimensions of 4688, 1995, 1755mm (l/w/h) there should be a large amount of internal space. The car rides on a choice of 19 or 20-inch wheels and some versions should come with Lidar.
Two versions have been declared in MIIT listings, with curb weights of 2639kg and 2739kg respectively and so we can conclude that there might be two different battery capacities for the Zeekr MIX. Both are equipped with NCM battery packs from CATL and use the same 310 kW (440 Nm torque) silicon carbide rear motor as in the Zeekr 007. The Zeekr MIX will almost certainly use 800V architecture.
We expect the Zeekr MIX to be fully revealed at the Beijing Auto Show which starts on April 25.

This is far more of a story than we thought, not only is this car an electric wagon and after all everyone loves an EV wagon – even if hardly anyone buys them – but this also uses Neta’s next generation architecture. Luckily Neta have realized that the Neta SS name wasn’t the greatest idea particularly if they want to stand any chance of exporting the car to Europe and the car now seems to be known as the Neta S Hunting – and simply badged as Neta S.

New spy shots and a video have emerged of most likely the top spec version and we also know more details. Unlike everyone thought the Neta S Hunting is not simply a wagon version of the Neta S sedan but is a much improved car. The original Neta S rides on the Shanhai 1.0 platform but the Hunting will use the new Shanhai 2.0 platform which was previously not expected to arrive until next year. Fast Technology claim though that it will debut around the time of the Beijing Auto Show later this month and be officially launched in about the middle of the this year.

Not only does the new platform mean the Neta S Hunting should have much better comfort and intelligence but it is also expected to introduce 800V architecture which will mean much faster charging times. The Haozhi skateboard chassis technology has integrated die cast front and rear body along with integrated energy cabin.

At the front from the teaser picture we can see the car is very similar to the existing Neta S, the EP41 plate is to do with the internal codename for the car. From this we can assume that Hesai’s AT128 Lidar sensor as seen on the spy shots is not standard on lower spec versions. With split headlights and LED running lights above, the car is quite sharp. At the bottom the lower air intake has a chrome dot matrix design which is different to the Neta S sedan.

On the side there seems to be a quite distinctive wave going across the length of the car. It’s believed that the Neta S Hunting will come with air suspension. At the rear the design is a fairly standard station wagon with only a limited sloping angle for the tailgate. At the top is a rear spoiler which helps give the wagon a more squared off look.

There should be both all electric and extended range EV versions. The latter will be equipped with a new 1.5 liter Atkinson cycle engine matched to a flat-wire generator. Reportedly the conversion rate will be 3.26 kWh/l. All electric rear wheel drive versions will use a 250 kW silicon carbide all-in-one motor. It is believed there will all be a dual motor four wheel drive version of the car. Batteries are reportedly the CATL Shenxing long-life L series. The Shenxing is the world’s first superfast charging LFP battery which means a great balance between cost and performance. Pricing is likely below 300,000 yuan (42,380 USD), Neta has previously said it would not sell cars above the threshold for luxury cars.

Editor’s note:

This is squaring up to be quite a car and will help move Neta even further away from the brand’s low rent beginnings. Although it share a name with the Neta S sedan it perhaps should be seen as a nearly completely new car.
