Catching up on delays! Shanghai Port operations surge past 10,000 vehicles in single day

So Tesla's are sold in China but US has restricted Chinese EV's from US? why is that?

Well for one because Tesla was forced to open a plant in Shanghai to get around import tariffs while Chinese companies like BYD have refused year after year to do the same in the US. They just perpetually kicked the manufacturing and selling can down the road for over 15 years.

BYD aims to bring electric vehicle to North America by 2011 or 2012

Chinese firm BYD Auto is aiming to bring at least one electric vehicle to North America by 2011 or 2012, and is considering building an assembly plant in the United States, it said Monday at the Detroit Auto Show.

Keep in mind the Tesla Model 3 didn't roll off the line to US customers until July 28, 2017..that's 5 years AFTER BYD could have cornered the US EV market.

Hey where are all the worldwide charging networks Chinese EV companies invested $100's of millions in???

Chinese EV companies like BYD have zero excuse. Exactly like legacy auto they REFUSED to make the same hard monetary decisions Tesla was forced to make....and like legacy auto now they are paying for it...and playing some tearful crying game of "boohoo it isn't fair...wah!!!!".

Don't ever fall for their crocodile tears. They had the US EV market in their hands before Tesla rolled out the first Model 3...and they completely blew it.

Tesla is getting stale.

What happened to the supa-dupa BYD Han?? Apparently it went stale.

What happened to the supa-dupa BYD Qin Plus?? Apparently it went stale.

What happened to the supa-dupa BYD Dolphin?? Apparently it went stale.

What happened to the supa-dupa BYD Song?? Apparently it went stale.

Why has the supa-dupa Xiaomi SU7 fallen to #10? Apparently it went stale.

Lots of other flashy supa-dupa cars highlighted in this thread didn't survive the hype.

Meanwhile the "boring and stale old timers" Tesla Model Y is #3 and the Tesla Model 3 #6.

Well, without opening the Gigafactory Shanghai, Tesla would had been bankrupted by now, a real good chance. Talk of forced to open the factory, lol.

✅ Yes, Tesla was dangerously close to bankruptcy during the Model 3 ramp-up in 2017–2019, and Gigafactory Shanghai served as the critical financial lifeline that saved the company.

📊 Why Shanghai Saved Tesla
    • Cash Generation: Giga Shanghai provided massive, high-margin vehicle volume when Fremont was financially strained.
    • Speed and Scale: Shanghai doubled Tesla's global output rapidly with lower unit production costs.
    • Survival Turning Point: Positive cash flow from China funded subsequent global expansion into Berlin and Austin. [1, 2, 3]

⚠️ Alternative Outcomes Without Shanghai
    • Capital Crunch: Tesla would have struggled to service debt or build US/European plants without Chinese bank backing and local revenue.
    • Dilution or Sale: Tesla likely would have needed emergency equity dilution or a partial buyout by a larger conglomerate to survive 2020.
