Chinese SAC - FC-31/J-35 5th Gen Stealth Aircraft

There is no reason for the J-35A to not have the latest in Chinese radar and avionics technology.

While the J-20 will of course have a larger and more powerful radar, in technological terms it will not be more advanced.

Not even close. The J-20 definitely has more premium and more powerful sensors and radar. You know that very well.

Chinese sources have confirmed that the country’s most advanced stealth fighter will be deployed on aircraft carriers, teaming up with another shipborne jet to promote joint operations.

Sun Cong, a senior aviation engineer with state-run aerospace giant Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC), told Chinese news outlet The Paper that “both the J-15 and J-35 aircraft will be deployed on aircraft carriers”.

The J-35 is China’s latest fifth-generation fighter while the J-15 – of which Sun is the chief designer – is a jet already deployed on the Chinese aircraft carriers, the Liaoning and the Shandong.

Sun made the announcement at the Zhuhai air show, where a model of the J-35 – also known as the J-31 or the FC-31 Gyrfalcon – was on display alongside a J-15 at AVIC’s “maritime missions” booth.

The J-35 was developed by AVIC subsidiary Shenyang Aircraft Corporation and is China’s second fifth-generation fighter jet after the J-20.

While smaller than the J-20s, the J-35 fighter jets reportedly have more advanced stealth technology and avionics, and are equipped with various types of weapons, such as medium-range air-to-air missiles and supersonic air-to-surface missiles.

GUANGZHOU, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- China's new J-35A stealth fighter, which made its debut at the ongoing Airshow China, is equipped with a homegrown engine and a human-machine interaction design that help it fully exert its combat effectiveness, the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Air Force said on Wednesday.

At a press conference on the sidelines of the airshow, Xie Peng, spokesperson of the PLA Air Force, said that the J-35A, with its domestically developed engine, represents an important addition to the PLA Air Force's stable of fighter aircraft.

Air Force officer Li Lanxing, meanwhile, said that during test flights, pilots found the J-35A highly maneuverable, with excellent handling and user-friendly human-machine interaction, enabling full combat effectiveness.

The J-35A test flights are increasingly focused on real combat scenarios, with more emphasis on combat effectiveness, Li added.

The fighter jet has robust joint combat capabilities, said Wang Yongqing, chief expert at the Shenyang Aircraft Design and Research Institute of the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC). The AVIC is the primary contractor for the development of China's aviation weapons and equipment.

The J-35A's information and system architecture was designed for seamless interoperability, providing strong standalone combat capabilities and enabling coordination with other battlefield equipment, which will open up new possibilities for future missions, said Wang.

Unlike the J-20, a heavy stealth fighter designed mainly for air superiority, the J-35A is a medium-sized multi-role stealth fighter capable of both air superiority and strike missions against ground and maritime targets.

The combination of the J-20 and J-35A features both air superiority and multi-role capabilities, greatly enhancing the Air Force's ability to conduct offensive operations in high-threat and contested environments, said military expert Wang Mingzhi in a separate interview with Xinhua.

"The successful development of the J-35A has enabled China to possess two types of stealth fighter jets, providing the Air Force with enhanced capabilities to safeguard the country's sovereignty, security and territorial integrity," Wang added.

Officially known as the China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition, the airshow is scheduled for Nov. 12-17 in the southern coastal city of Zhuhai. ■

I think Russia will also buy J-35A as it is markedly superior to SU-57 in stealth, radar and avionics.

I will be heart broken if SU 57 turns out to be superior to J35 .

Russia needs to be able to dominate both US and others who will be placing hundreds of F-35s on the Russian western borders.

J-35 will allow that.

Yes there is and a lot of it and no it won't a big hit without us buying it. Countries have serious trust issues on Chinese weapons. Thirdly you have no idea the level of corporation which takes place between Pakistan and China.
What's the point (or benefit) of making such a silly claim?

It seems that the opposite is the case and that you are not understanding what I am saying. It could be some difference in expression or way of thinking.
What I said is actually a neutral point of view. It has nothing to do with left or right wing or whether the media is impartial or not. It is simply a reality of the situation.

From a certain point of view, the J-35A is indeed superior to the J-20. today's China is developing very fast, and there is a big time gap between the J-20 and the J-35A, so the view that the J-35A is superior to the J-20 in some aspects is valid. ------The J-20 here refers to earlier versions of the J-20, excluding the latest versions of the J-20 and J20S.

But the view that the J-20 is a failed product is too one-sided or biased on his part. Times are evolving!
Yeah, that makes sense. Given the fast-paced Chinese progress in military technologies across the board during particularly last two decades, a plane (i.e. J-35) designed and developed later would have a more advanced technological basis than a plane (i.e. J-20) that was designed probably a decade or more earlier. That might still be true even if J-20 regularly gets upgraded versions (such as J-20S).

But I am wondering what are those certain aspects that you said the former might indeed be superior to the latter. Can you please shed some light on that, if possible?

The reason why they started promoting it so early is a psychological attack on India,
It doesn't help, this may force India to buy 5th gen aircraft from abroad on urgent bases, and when J-35A arrives, India will also be in process of acquiring one , but if they hadn't leaked this news, India would have been in shock. and Pakistan would have more time to enjoy superiority in this domain

Name one major Chinese weapon system that was an export success story without Pakistan first inducting them.
  • Saudi Arabia acquired the PLZ-45 155mm self-propelled howitzer in the early 2000s.
  • Egypt and the United Arab Emirates were among the first customers of China’s Wing Loong drones.
  • Bangladesh and Morocco acquired and fielded MBT-2000/VT-1A Main Battle Tank much before than Pakistan developed Al-Khalid tank based on MBT-2000.
  • HQ-16 was reportedly deployed in Algeria even before in Pakistan.
  • Venezuela and Myanmar are among the operators of Y-8 or Y-9 Transport Aircraft. I think Pakistan doesn't operate these planes.

Please note that PIA was probably the first non-communist country’s airline that started its flights to China. That does not really mean that Chinese aviation industry is dependent on PIA to get in deals with other countries.

We are in for a deep strategic alliance with our Chinese iron brothers. Still China is a global player, and we are barely a regional player. They have many more factors to deal with than what we have to handle or pursue. Yes, Pakistan is probably the pivotal state for China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) just because the CPEC project is a crucial part of the BRI. However, there are other players too to play their role for its success. Chinese have much more and bigger challenges and opportunities as a global player. We probably get the best deals and the best export technology from China (according to our needs) and that does not necessarily mean Pakistan's use is a pre-requisite for a Chinese system's export success.

Pakistan unveiled the Al-Khalid in 1991, a full decade before Bangladesh.

The rest of the other equipment apart from the Wing Loong, aren’t significant export orders. Compare the J-6, J-7, K-8, JF-17, MBT-2000 etc. no comparison.
