Rafale or not..The neutralization of the Awacs was not an option but rather a pivotal tactical necessity. Its high radar imprint (RCS) and its constant radiation makes it a attractive passive point for any advanced ESM system. What Pakistan - most likely - did is the implementation of a coordinated electronic chain that began to monitor the AWACS fingerprint passively, and pass its accurate coordinates (4D) immediately to EA, which led to the isolation of Indian fighters from the air command center.
Then the fighters lost their network cover, and became "blind" in a battlefield running in kilowatts and waves before the missiles. Pakistan took advantage of this moment and pushed advanced BVR platforms equipped with PL-15 missiles capable of killing out the opponent's combat awareness.
But the most important thing is that the PL-15 is nothing but the spearhead in an integrated series of capabilities: a passive long-range detection, advanced electronic support, penetration of communications signals, and perhaps even disturbing the spectrum set for Indian command systems.
Conclusion: Whoever controls the electromagnetic spectrum ... controls the sky. It appears that the Pakistanis were the ones who controled the "right wave at the right time".
You all keep rambling on about networks, systems, electronics—missing the damn point - The PL-15E! The PL-15E isn't just some random BVR missile. It the most advanced air-to-air missile on this planet at this moment! PAF build the system around it. It's at least 30 years ahead of anything Egypt's Air Force has in its inventory. Even the U.S. is scrambling to build the AIM-260 just to counter it.

On the night of May 7th, without the PL-15E, Pakistan’s F-16s, J-10CEs, and JF-17s would've needed to close to within 70 km just to exchange BVR shots—AIM-120Cs/SD-10s VS India’s Rafales MICA EMs and su30s R-77 . Now apply that same scenario to Egypt’s FA-50s, MiGs, and F-16s—with close to zero BVR capability—and the IAF wouldn’t just win, they’d beat the shit out of the Egypt’s Air Force.
Conclusion: First, get a jet that can actually fire the PL-15E! Without it, your air force—even with the system/link/electronics, it will still eat like a cake by PAF.
Not a good video but the best I can find.
Here is the video explain much better how PL15E superlong range, ASEA seeker, INS + Beidou updates, Two-way datalink, dual-pulse works
