Colombian fans are obnoxious and crude. We saw their behavior in Copa America 2024. So I was rooting for Switzerland in this game and am pleased with the result.

Neither team looked impressive though. It was a boring game.

The heat map actually suggested Argentina dominating the match, and if not for the Egypt goalie playing an outstanding match, Argentina would have had 2 or 3 more goals than it had (including 1 penalty) on the scoreboard

Egypt was too focused on counter-attack, which scored them the second goal, then they were hardly seen in the Argentinian half, and even in midfield, after the second half.

Sounds about right. Egypt need to work on possession. Can't just be trying to score on dramatic counter attacks especially if you're 2-0 up with 10mins left. The objective there should be to shut the crowd up and shut up shop with boring keep-ball. Risks were not needed at all.

There were moments where Salah should have driven towards the corners and just kept hold of the ball or won throw-ins/corners. Game management!

VAR has advantages but is calibrated with tolerances which have been under investigation many times before

and the pattern seems to be on play back and few mm of off side

that does not give a meaningful advantage in open play

1 foot in front yes fair play VAR should check but when you are a few mm or play back 30 seconds then it becomes controversial

secondly the VAR also seems to be very inconstant in its application

Paraguay got none

yet Iran and Egypt both robbed

Arsene Wenger raised this exact issue about the offside rule, that it should not apply over a matter of mm's only. Agreed.

Maybe there should also be a time limit of how far the playback can go to "hunt" for fouls?? A statute of limitations, if you will.

They have been for a while, doesn't surprise me. I have spent a bit of time in Buenos Aires. But lots of Arabs out there who like them and are in support of them. The tickets would lose sales if Messi didn't go too far into the tournament, call it speculation.

On WC - Switzerland didn't seem convincing. Argentina will very likely go to Semis and face either Norway or England. Although Argentina England will be a classic match up, I will root for Norway. Hope they make it to the Finals. Let's have a new champion this year.
