HAL LCA Tejas: Updates, News & Discussions

If that were the case IAF would not be asking the Greek for their used Mirage 2000s
Mirage 2000 is a very capable platform and has a lot life left. We aren’t rich enough to let go of an aircraft with so much life still left.
Greek aircarft would allow to get the spares not available with Dassault.
Tejas has timelines for induction and that would make up for the already reduced squadron strength.

Which is better? On paper Tejas seems to have many systems which are better than M2000.

Those mirages are being looked at for spares and attrition reserves to maintain our current 3 Mirage 2000v5 squadrons

in 2020, India bought 24 old Mirages 2000 from France, out of these 8 were in fly away condition
India put 4 of these mirages in active service after upgrades to Dash5 standards, rest were canibalised for spare parts

We want to keep our Mirage 2000v5 fleet till 2035 atleast

The 15 odd Greek Mirages 2000v5 were inducted in 2001 and are of the same standards as Indian Mirages 2000v5
While being much younger than the bulk of Indian Mirages which were inducted between 1985-1988

Tejas Mk1 prototype with ASRAAM.

This is going to be the Tejas Mk1A fleet standard WVRAAM I believe.

Mirages on Bombing missions will carry just One SPICE 2000 and Rest of the Hard points will be for MICA
Those should be for emergency measures.
Mica's range is below 100km. Astra variants outperform it anyday, so why if there is whole package involved with MK1a or MKI , M2k will carry more bombs.

Dassault has spares, it recently made deal with French AF for life extension of their M2k . But probably too pricey for us. Canibalising Greek planes seems to be better.

well ASTRA MKII wont be readilly avilable till at least 3 more years but till then i guess as a cheaper option IAF should get few dozen MICA NG both in infra red and active radar seeker verssions for Mirgae2000 fleet thats at least two missiles per fighter which will be a hude boost for mirage power and much cheaper than meteor and just a plug and play option

NG is one class below Mk2, its near to Mk1 with 120km range (as per Defence matrix).
Its French avenue of leeching off money. Its better if our Airforce become more capable in using multiple platforms in a strike package.

first of all NGs range is almsot similar to I DERBY ER and its more compact and much lighter to I DERBY ER and ASTRA MKI besides that it has much higher potency against counter measures and comes in both IS and AR verssions so a pair of MICA NG shot towards a F16 60-80Km away means 100% kill meaning if there is a squad of mirage 2000 on a SEAD /DEAD mission make no mistake no PAF jet will dare come close

Mirage2000 do not have AESA radars. If Pakistan has EW assets in air, it would be really difficult to target even 30km , let alone 80 km.

Mat is gonna get a lot of hate from Indian commentators, but with all the delays, can’t it be best said that Indians hate the LCA Tejas more than anyone?

There were myriad reasons for the delays, none of which involved hatred for the product.

Hate Tejas? Why?
We hate the agencies that delayed it not the aircraft itself.
It is a beautiful and capable aircraft, loved by any aviation enthusiast.

Mk.1, Mk.1A,Mk.2

The goal post keeps getting moved, and it seems nothing operational really gets built. It’s desired, in theory, but the IAF doesn’t seem to commit to the plane, and let it mature in the fleet.

but the IAF doesn’t seem to commit to the plane
That should be said in past tense. It is in history now.

Right now IAF has already placed an order for 180 Tejas. That is more than enough of an indication of commitment.

MKI, MKIA are two variants we all know about and MKII is the completely new aircarft.

180 no of MK1A already ordered..
How many JF 17 Block 3 were ordered by PAF ?
