I really have doubts about the synchronization of planning and execution across the entire Axis.

Your entire post is worth reading and on the spot. I don't understand why people breast beating here fell into despair over 3000 pagers and a dozen commanders killed. The losses to Hezbollah were much larger in 2006 but they are widely regarded to have 'won' by not losing. Israel accepted the new status quo with them for 18 years and this latest attempt by Netanyahu is his roll of the dice: Escalate to make Hezbollah over-react to bring the Americans in. He has time till the new American President takes over and rolling the dice. Otherwise, he knows well that Hezbollah will NEVER pull back from South Lebanon.
