Japan’s Sharp plans multibillion-dollar display fab unit in India

The expected investment, as per market analysts, could be $3-6 billion, with land requirement running into 1,000-odd acres.

The plan reportedly is to set up a Gen10+ facility — the latest high-end type — to manufacture screens that can be used across all devices, except mobile phones. The factories, which use enormous 2,940 x 3,370 mm glass substrates, require a high capital outlay.

Tesla signs strategic deal with Tata Electronics for procurement of semiconductor chips: Report

Details about the deal, including its value and specific terms, remain undisclosed as both companies have not commented on the agreement.

This move could be a part of Tesla's broader strategy to diversify its supply chain and establish a more significant presence in India. The report suggests Tata Electronics, which leads the Tata group's entry into semiconductor manufacturing, has increased its workforce by recruiting top-level executives. Tata Electronics has established semiconductor manufacturing facilities in Hosur, Dholera, and Assam, with plans to expand operations and has invested $14 billion in the business to date.

Tata plans to venture into 14 nm node too.

After the recent groundbreaking of its Rs 91,000-crore semiconductor fabrication plant, Tata group, along with its technology partner Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC), has started work on producing the high-end chip technology of 14 nanometer (nm).

The 14 nm are much more advanced chips, and will be in addition to the 28 nm nodes which Tata Electronics and PSMC plan to manufacture at their fabrication unit, which is coming up at Dholera, Gujarat.

Israeli chipmaker Tower closes in on $8 billion fabrication plant in India.
The scheme promises a 50 per cent capital expenditure subsidy to successful applicants – meaning that if Tower’s plant costs $8 billion, the Centre will shell out $4 billion from its kitty. Any state where the chip foundry could be located may give additional benefits to the company. Tower is looking to manufacture 65 nanometre and 40 nanometre chips in India which may be used in a number of sectors, including automotive and wearable electronics.
