India’s long submarine journey: What went wrong and the plan ahead

Lol..ok.

So why haven't you been able to build a nuclear powered or even a regular submarine yet ?

You have the entire Chinese industry at your disposal.

Why don't you buy or borrow a few Chinese nuts, bolts, power&comm lines and some paint build you self a fleet of SSBNs?
Why argue an idiot?

When Indian member said that our nuclear submarine is capable of going upto Jamaica or artict ocean he came up with an argument how it's a American navy playground without understanding that it was the range capability of our nuclear submarine that member was talking about as an example, and not to challenge USA.....

No lol, what you mean is the "RUSSIAN" nuclear submarine, with Russian systems, with Russian control mechanisms, with RUSSIAN HOMING SYSTEMS, and Russian metal alloy tech which the US Navy submarine underwater sensor networks and magnetic anamoly detectors will pick up and immediately lock onto as a RUSSIAN submarine because it is built using non-classified Russian metal alloy tech.

The last thing Russia wants is the US Navy thinking they are detecting a Russian nuclear submarine in the American backyard, which the US Navy will then blow to smithereens within minutes of detection.

You Indians have your heads so far up your behinds it is hilarious.

The Russians will turn off your power systems remotely as soon as you go beyond the Russian limits.

1999: India finalised the 30-Year plan to build 24 submarines by 2030.

2026: India has built only 6.

India currently has 3 Russian SSBNs on lease, 10 obsolete submarines nearing decommissioning, and only 6 sea worthy for the foreseeable future.

Can you please name the 3 Russian SSBNs that are on lease.

I do not think India ever leased more than 1 Russian SSBN at a time. All the SSBNs were returned a long time ago

No country gets to lease a SSBN, no country leases out a SSBN.

Just like how one doesn't not rent out one's nuclear weapons or ICBMs

SSBNs are strategic assets that can store and fire nuclear weapons.

India leased one Charlie class SSN in the 80s for a period of 3 years.

And leased another Akula 2 class SSN for about decade in 2010s and returned it in 2021.

Its even a bigger fantasy as you have had with SU-30s and then with Rafales.

How many times P-8s have detected a submarine?

Can you calculate how many years a fleet of 1000 P-8 aircrafts will take to scan indian ocean for a submerged submarine. Get some digging and then get back.
Finding a submerged submarine in an ocean is like finding a needle in a haystack with even most modern equipment till date.

Even finding a stealth warship becomes a problem, finding a snorkeling submarine becomes a problem, finding a submarine at 300 meters down is near impossible.

I gave you one REAL life example. Indonesian sub got missing few years back. Indonesian navy knew exactly where the last contact was made. They had a very narrow down region to find. So many countries joined, P-8s of several forces joined the hunt and still it took days to find that submarine. Imagine how difficult would be to find a submarine that is deliberately trying not to be found and has a wider region and no one knows whereabouts of it.

That's why AIP is so important. It can keep submarine at depths of the ocean for weeks. Unlike indian scorpene subs which have to surface after every 2 days. The submarine is most detectable when its snorkeling or at surface. Otherwise at the depths it has not happened once that a submarine could be found by an aircraft.

Oceans have variable depths, complex terrain, even caves / mountains under the water and oceans are HUGE. Submarine can be anywhere and its a big nightmare. So stop fantasizing that just because you got P-8s that's done. So that means China and Russia don't have to even build subs because US has so many P-8s lol. You think war as a two people playing cards? Its not even the right example but why do you think Iran has not surrendered yet despite massive technological differences ? Everyone plays with their own tactics and strengths. No one in Pakistan Navy will ever allow Indian P-8 to detect our submarine. Your ships will detect it in their final moments just like INS Khurki found out the hard way.
there are too many variables

Indonesian submarine went to a depth (> 900m) where it cannot come back up. Yuan class submarines in operation stay at 300m. That is a huge difference when it comes to detection

Yuan class subs can carry 15-20 torpedoes. Not a very large number. Sooner or later you have to run back to the port to be refuelled. The food is limited. Maybe for 3 weeks.

the speed of P-8I is 500 mph. Yuan class sub is 20 mph. if detected and cornered, the submarine is toast

thanks for correction. I believe there were SSGN even though Russia did not provide the cruise missiles

Homemade nuclear submarine is something so impossible for them that they've no option but to troll... why give them oxygen? And we never leased any SSBN from Russia.... we twice leased only SSNs....

you were right. The subs leased were SSN attack subs

Both Charlie -1 class and Akula -2 class were SSGN in the sense that they could fire cruise missile from its torpedo tubes( which in a sense every submarine can - you just need a missile small enough to fit in a torpedo tube.)

But they are not proper SSGNs like Ohio class that can fire 150 Tomahawk missiles from its vertical launch tubes.

Telling you, Pakistan should have shot and killed all of their jets. There was no point on identifying them, locking on them, and not shooting them down. Had Pakistan done so, most Indians would have committed suicide out of humiliation and would have burned down the French embassy in New Delhi after blaming France for selling them faulty jets.

You have 15 airbases. India bombed 12. Pretty sure 'killing all their jets' is nit an option when you cant even save your own.

But they were used mostly for training and design rrference.

What s with the three Russian nuke submarines on lease 😂 😂 😂 😂
