Jakarta. State-run defense company Pindad has built a motor vehicle specifically designed to be used by Pope Francis when he greets the public during a Mass at Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta on Thursday.

The popemobile is built on Pindad’s tactical vehicle Maung MV3 with necessary modifications for the Pope’s comfort and safety, said the company’s CEO, Abraham Mose.

It’s surrounded with bullet-proof glasses to make the pope visible when he greets the crowd and a hard roof to protect him from the heat of the Jakarta sun or potential rain.

“We thank the Vatican and the Papal visit organizing committee for choosing the Maung MV3 as the vehicle for the Pope during the public Mass at the Bung Karno Stadium. It’s a great honor to us to be directly involved in providing the vehicle for the leader of worldwide Catholic churches,” Abraham said in a statement.

The 2,200-cc Maung MV3 is the third generation of a tactical vehicle developed by Pindad at the request of Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto, who will assume the presidency next month.

Indonesian Aerospace wins first international commitment for N219

By Greg Waldron

5 September 2024

Indonesian Aerospace has secured an order from a company in the the Democratic Republic of the Congo for five N219 turboprops, marking the type’s first international commitment.

The deal was signed in Indonesia at the Indonesia-Africa Forum event in Bali, says Indonesian Aerospace, also known as PTDI.

The N219 has struggled to win orders

The contract was signed with Congolese company Setdco Group, which will operate the 19-seater aircraft. The value of the five aircraft deal is $66.2 million.

In addition to the N219 commitment, Indonesian Aerospace secured an agreement from Kinshasa for a pair of CN235-220 tactical transports, which will serve with the Congolese air force.

Should the CN235 deal go through, it will add to the Indonesian-produced CN235 fleet serving in Africa. Other African customers include Burkina Faso, Guinea, and Senegal.

The Bali event also saw Senegal commit to a four-year MRO contract for its pair of Indonesian-produced CN235s.

The Congolese deal is a breakthrough for the N219, which has struggled to secure local sales let alone secure international customers.

No timeframe was given for Congolese deliveries, but it is likely to be years before the first aircraft is delivered.

In late 2023, the company secured a $68 million Indonesian army contract for six aircraft, the first order for the type, but FlightGlobal understands that this will only come into effect in 2025.

Following this, it will take 20 months for Indonesian Aerospace to build the first production example in Bandung.

The aircraft, powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A engines, received Indonesian certification in December 2020. The N219 is intended to serve remote, undeveloped parts of the sprawling Indonesian archipelago.

In May 2023, a company executive told FlightGlobal that Indonesian Aerospace sees a domestic market for 120 N219s over a 10-year period.

Indonesia Is also developing an amphibious version of the N219.

I dont think the struggle part is justified. Indonesian Aerospace is using its N219 Amphibious program to produce better designed N219. So I expect they are not rush in selling their N219 Basic yet as they still want to improve the plane design.

In order to be able to fly using two floaters for N219 Amphibious version, the plane design must be improved so that it can carry two floaters without the plane lost its endurance and to be able to take off smoothly. It also means N219 Basic will be improved so that it can fly higher, longer, and with more weight compared to the first 2 N219 prototypes

N219 improved design work has been completed, this year Indonesian Aerospace is expected to start making N219 Amphibious prototype

China developed Cargo UAV. I put it here since Indonesia under BRIN has plan to develop similar plane for Cargo

NEO-1 Satellite Enters Final Completion Phase and Ready for Launch

Bogor-BRIN Public Relations. The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) is developing a national satellite constellation for Earth observation. Unlike any other single satellite, the constellations consist of two or more similar moons orbiting in clusters. Its advantage, satellites get wider coverage.

The first satellite constellation to be developed is the Nusantara Earth Observation (NEO), which consists of two ultra-high resolution satellites, four high-resolution satellites, and two SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar).

NEO-1 is a fourth-generation satellite or known as the A4. It will be more sophisticated because its load specifications are better than those of previous generation satellites such as EIGHT-A2 and EIGTH-A3.

M. Arif Saifudin, Senior Engineer at the BRIN Research Center for Satellite Technology, said that NEO-1 research is now entering the final phase of Assembly, Integration, and Test (AIT). This year, Research Center for Satellite Technology is targeting for the completion of its project and the preparation for its launch.

"The launch is planned between the end of 2024 or the beginning of 2025. The satellite was launched at an altitude of about 500 kilometers from the Earth's surface in a Sun Synchronous Polar orbit," he said in contact with the Public Relations Regional Team of BRIN at the Ibnoe Soebroto Science Area, Rancabungur, Bogor, Monday (6/5).

Arif said, NEO-1 has passed a series of tests, such as subsystem or component levels including functional testing, performance testing, and partly environmental testing. This is done to ensure that the components meet the requirements for use on satellites.

After the final assembly and integration is completed, continued Arif, then carry out system level testing including functional testing, vibration testing and Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) testing. "The satellite is ready to be launched if the entire AIT process and final testing are completed," he said.

This NEO-1 Chief Engineer explains that the main mission of the satellite is to observe the earth using the optical camera of the line scanner and the infrared thermal camera.

Further Arif explains, for optical cameras, NEO-1 carries a high-resolution multispectral camera that previously did not exist on the Eight-A3. Its resolution is 5 meters with a swath width (sapuan) of 33 kilometers. For medium-resolution cameras have a wider coverage than the medium resolution cameras on the EIGHT-A3 satellite, which is 16 meters with a swath width of 230 kilometers.

"With this camera, the NEO-1 image is expected to support remote sensing. It can be used for agricultural, forestry, marine, environmental, mapping, as well as other applications that use satellite image data," Arif said.

The satellite also carries an infrared camera from Hokaido University, Japan. The data can be used for hotspot observations of forest fires, volcanic activity from volcanoes, surface temperature measurements, and weather-related research.

NEO-1 also flew a maritime surveillance mission carrying a Space Based Automatic Identification System (AIS) Receiver load. This mission enables global maritime traffic observation, both for general and specialized monitoring related to safety and safety of maritime transport.

"The cargo or other payload that NEO-1 carries is a Magnetometer. The mission performs Earth's magnetic field measurement with better data receiver capabilities. The data could then be used by researchers for scientific missions such as monitoring symptoms or early signs of an earthquake by looking at changes in the magnetic field before the earthquakes occurred. The data can also be applied to geomagnetic activity," he said.

Another mission conducted by NEO-1 is low-datarate telecommunications from Indonesian startup, PT Netra.(dv/translator:akb)

Pindad-FNSS Medium Tank and Pindad Badak IFV

Defense enthusias member (Chesnut) active in other forum who talk bad about Pindad rifle and say other local brand produce better rifle is basically lier, he is prominent as always talking bad about state owned company and recorded as anti KF21 program.

Better dont put weight with what he said. Basically he is lier saying other local brand produce better rifle. He doesnt know Army experience with both rifle.....100 % he doesnt have connection to those who has used the rifle, and most probably just some one working in PR department with many of women workers and not connected to true rifle users in Indonesia..... And what is more funny is that other Indonesian member in that forum believe him. Better both members get connected to Perbakin and talk to real assault rifle users rather than talking bulshit in forum....
