Iran's biggest problem was not lack of human or natural resources--Iran exceeded Pakistan far better on both of those counts. Iran relied on the proxies as Iran's 'nukes', and Iran had no major powerful neighbor ready to attack and grab land unlike Pakistan has faced for 80 years. You sound just a liiitle bit bitter that Iran has challenged US militarily and is succeeding at it, or at least not clearly losing to US. If Iran can hit that aircraft carrier, it must. Iran has failed to demonstrate that it can cause real harm to "any" part of the USA inventory except for static radars, where it has done well. The lack of damage to the war machine is only further encouraging Trump to push further into this war. Just look at how he responded to the Iranian statement earlier today, he saw victory in that statement, and it has to be corrected by the IRGC spokesman later on during the day.

If Iran can actually hit an aircraft carrier, they must must must do it asap .

May be US can not afford to go on under these circumstances so maybe they are baiting the carrier to come close well within strike range, so they get a reason to invade/ground invasion.

maybe they need a catastrophe of high order to rally the US citizens which by the way are against him and this war - large loss of human lives definitely will change the perspective of US citizens.

And if so, then a catastrophic defeat for the Israeli plans of expansion and a regional hegemon because an emboldened Iran would rebuild its lost proxies on Israel's borders.
