They were conducting CSAR ops deep inside our territory in two of our provinces where 99% of our oil comes from. Our troops didn't even get there after 24 hours.

Do you remember how you laughed when I said without an air force, you cannot even transport your troops where you need them? Now keep laughing.

You don't seem to understand that U.S does not conduct CSAR missions without all kinds of support including close air support and fighter cover. How many IRIAF asset+ pilots would you like to lose going up against F-35s backed up by AWACS for one airman?

But interceptors arriving wouldn’t have changed the battle because the establishment decided that a small S-300 order and whatever Iranian defense industry could produce would be enough against the greatest airforce in the world.

I routinely said to purchase S-400 on top of S-300 and also buy anything else we can get our hands on to create the densest air defense we can.

Did you know Syria in 2011 had a more dense air defense network than Iran in 2025?

Hard to believe, but Assad had one of the densest air defense networks for an Arab country. He lost it over time due to civil war and defections and Israeli strikes after his forces had to retreat.

This is a huge blunder.
US special forces demonstrated that they can freely infiltrate deep into Iranian territory, even transport planes, without suffering any losses.
Trump will likely gain momentum for deploying ground troops.
Iran's defenses have been exposed to a critical vulnerability.
They have made the same mistake as Hussein's army, which panicked and fled because they believed the US lacked the courage to launch a ground attack.
The Revolutionary Defense was stunned and helpless, never imagining that the US military would calmly infiltrate.
The operation of drones and missiles that can be launched from a distance is completely different from ground warfare, which requires bold, flexible thinking and courage.
Unfortunately, IRI is terribly lacking in ground warfare capabilities.

Well, I suppose that's what you get when your enemy establishes air superiority over your territory on the first day of war. That's why I insisted for years that we needed an air force and missiles will never be able to replace that.

So, to be clear, when the US sets foot on our islands or our southern territory, will you bring up the same excuse?

Iran does need an air force, true, but whatever Iran had managed would've been decimated within couple of days.
So if Iran had diverted missiles money towards airforce, today Iran would neither have the airforce and nor have the missiles.

But for the US and for Trump specifically, the symbolism and propaganda victory of this operation makes up for those material losses.

Honestly I can see an argument for not investing in one because in any meaningful conflict all that would just get shot down, obviously missiles don't really replace their function, but that could be a concession the military forces made doctrinally. It's a question of what you want to focus on and for what reason, not necessarily trying to max out all defenses in every area.
