سن 2015 میں جب سعودیہ یمن جنگ چل رہی تھی تو سعودی عرب نے پاکستان کو جنگ میں ساتھ دینے کا کہا۔

اس کارٹون میں بحرینی آرٹسٹ عبداللہ المحرقی نے سعودی بادشاہ سلمان بن عبد العزیز کو دکھایا جو ایک ہاتھ میں بندوق اور ایک ہاتھ میں پیسے تھامے ایک پاکستانی کے پاس آتا ہے اور اسے کہتا ہے جا کے لڑو لیکن پاکستانی کہتا ہے کہ نہیں میں نہیں لڑوں گا۔
پھر سعودی بادشاہ کہتا ہے کہ "یہ لو" یعنی پیسے لو اور لڑو جس پر پاکستان کہتا ہے کے "ھے واللہ"؟
یعنی واقعی۔
بحرینی آرٹسٹ نے پاکستان کا مذاق اڑانے کی کوشش کی تھی کہ یہ ابھی انکار کر رہے ہیں لیکن بعد میں پیسے لے کر لڑیں گے۔
لیکن پاکستان واقعی اس جنگ میں غیر جانبدار رہا تھا۔

Even per international law, Iran has every right to fully exercise control of its territorial waters up to 12 nautical miles (22 km), which is basically more than half of the Strait of Hormuz at its narrowest point.

No, this is not correct.

Even though Iran’s territorial waters cover a large part of the Strait of Hormuz, international law specifically prevents it from exercising full control over navigation in that strait.

Same applies for all international straits. From Suez to Bosporus to Malakka - the transit of passage can't be obstructed by nearby coastal countries.

Another fun fact: oil tankers and heavy containers eventually have to pass through Iran's territorial waters, due to the shallow depth of the other side of the strait at some points.

Another fun fact: Iran has not ratified UNCLOS. Hence, we are not obliged to even abide by this and can declare a longer distance for our territorial waters. The US isn't a party to UNCLOS either.

Türkiye hasn't signed it either, yet, customary international law does exist and it is binding.

There is no reason to halt civil maritime traffic while the IRGC continues to damage the energy infrastructure of the GCC. Given that Israel has chosen to attack Iran's essential infrastructure to create a failed state anyways, Tehran has no longer any motivation to officially close the strait and be the official boogeyman in this conflict.

Generating a global energy price shock is Iran's main objective. Why accept the international blame without anything in return if you must strike Arab oil facilities anyway due to the assault on your critical infrastructure by Israel and the US?
