Iranian Air Force (IRIAF/IRGC-ASF) | News and Discussions

If it were additional airframes of MIG-29SMT then adaptibility would be quick but MIG29 or any lighter platform itself has no use for Iranian geography.
I think that as things stand up there, then the MiG-29SMT is the best call for now.

Say 3 -4 years before adequate numbers of such aircraft reaches FOC.

For imported SU-35's, and subsequent SU-35's and SU-30 XX's to reach an adequate number of FOC airframes, say 6 years at least. These include knock-down kits acquired with big ticket items hopefully such as an ASEA radar, AL-31 and R-37 and possibly even R37M supplied 'as is'.

Best way out will be bargaining with Russia to give Iran some 70+ airframes of MIG-29, them and Iranian ones (surprisingly the number rose to 24 last year, old airframes restored?) can undergo Mid-Life upgradation to SMT standard. They can perform a good point defence role while SU-35S/30SM are built.

F-14AM should be upgraded and stored in mint condition for emergency requirements, Kowsars should be built in high numbers.

Khayal Moazzin is a highly credible journalist and often reports on behind the curtain transcaucasian politics between Iran and Russia or Iranian matters with Turkey.

My take:

- BT's report of actual order including 12 X SU-30SM/SM (Flanker-H) is true. He said that IRIAF plans to use them as trainers for SU-35S fleet. Now Khayal is repeating the same thing about SU-30SM along with SU-35S. They are dual seaters and their weapon suite matches with SU-35S, they can wear Khibiny ECM and fire R-37. Makes senses as multirole fighters but also trainers.
Concur.
- Russia can probably deliver 24 airframes at best for now but cant produce SU-35S or SU-30SM for Iran (BT reported order of 68 SU-35S, 12 SU-30SM, 12 x YAK-130) since their own needs are immense right now. So there is a good possibility that licensed CKD production like that of SU-30MKI (India) can start in Iran. Someone on twitter was saying that Russia doing this will benefit from it in future because now they can have not one but two production sources of Flankers if a production line starts in Iran. They can barely produce 10-12 airframes a year for now.

- If someone noticed, IAIO production facilities are being expanded at fast pace in recent times.
Yes, the first one I remember was an Kowsar still in its primer parked just outside of what can only be a (large) assembly hall. I think that post may even have been by you.

The second I remember was an extended parking lot connected to a runway. Freshly tarred.

Both of the above where from high, probably images captured by satellite.

The last one was horizontal. Nice layout of buildings added. Think it was on X.

how much a second hand mig-29smt and how much a new kowsar and which one have better avionic

How much would it cost for Iran to upgrade older MiG-29As with indigenous Avionics to Kowsar standard?

I don’t understand why irans airforce was neglected for so long why didn’t they try and approach Russia in the 90s or 2000s
Because Qajars insted of retaking, give even more...reza shah try to deal with bad nazi gays...and even baddest british made him regretted...tha shah army was just better trained version of ksa army, hyper-expensive and useless without us military...but tomcat came...why no Russia 90' and 00"...because of many things, case Bavar-373 is just example why...

Now, finally, is different story...

We always need visual confirmation, but in recent days the news has multiplied
According to the latest news that I got, two Sukhoi 35 fighters have arrived in the country in disassembled form, and the delivery of these fighters has started, and they are supposed to be assembled inside the country by Russian personnel.

What radar and armaments are the Su-35s equipped with?

No AESA and AMRAAM-equivalent missile in Modern Air Warfare would severely downgrade its capabilities...

I have no idea but R-37 is likely, i hope at least

We will see everything once they unveil them to public, i hope Iran will not do like last time where they informed nobody of Yak delivery

Depends on what Russia and Iran has concluded between them. Even barter initially, seeing that Bricks will in time (when?) make for a more free flow of funds between its members.

Also, depends on what Iran has in mind, in its own food store especially, pertaining to sensors, electronics, IFF, weapons etc., for -SMT.

The same of course applies to new Kowsar.

In the last case however resources would likely flow more freely internally than externally.

In other words: - What will an Mig-29 SMT with local peripherals on the tarmac cost vs new Kowsar supporting local industry to the hilt.
