Iranian Air Force (IRIAF/IRGC-ASF) | News and Discussions

You're late with the news of the F-4 improvements. It fits in with my predictions and what some people I follow say, but wait for the rest... New products to come. Kowsar, F-313 manned version and a new one that has already been shown in model form, which one will it become? I'm not necessarily talking about the HESA Shafaq but in the same vein, reconfiguration. The purchase of external aircraft does not prevent the production of interiors.
you know I actually don’t ever agree with you but I actually liked the shafaq if Iran had stuck with it we would have seen shafaq 3.0 by now with dozens of them in the sky

reasonable numbers, and Babak is somewhat reliable for this stuff. just a shame no SU-57 were added

we need a platform to launch ALBM at Israel from over Iraq and to intercept Israeli jets over Iraq
flanker family air craft are not best for such mission for that may guess is we must go and convince Russia sell us su-34 or mig-31

Vladimir Putin officially announced the sale of Sukhoi 35 fighter jets and defense aid to Iran/Mehr

According to Reza_Mad the missile might be called Baz and has a range of 100km. Is this confirmed, at least the name?

su-34 and su-57 would be good options. su-34 is cheaper option and functional, and probably more realistic to achieve quicker this decade.

but we probably also need help creating ALBM that can fit on su-34. ironically we need something like golden sparrow that Israel has

I’m sure Iran has found one or two that can be salvaged so they can reverse engineer

apparently IRIAF is testing copy of AIM-120C on F-4 with 100km range

Would be better if we can get the Yak130 in the Yak130M version. Improved upgrades that make it a useful platform for training and light combat/patrol duties.

Indeed. Most modern western AFs are switching to 1-2 Air-superiority Multirole platforms and a large fleet of fleet of LIFT/AT to back them up. IRIAF should be built around (~100) SU-35S/30SM/24MK2 + (60) MIG-29SMT/M + (30) YAK-130M.

Yak130M should replace all F7, F1, and F5 jets.

F-7, MF1 can go to IRGCAF if they can upgrade them like they did with SU-22M3/M4. If Syrian/Ukraine wars have taught us anything, its that every airframe counts in the end.

IRIAF currently has around 90 air-frames of F-5A/B/R/E/F/Azaraksh/Saegheh-I/II/Kowsar. They should all be dismantled and rebuilt as new to Kowsar standards as a Light CAP fighter or AT of its own.

If the Baz AAM is indeed smaller and lighter than the Arash/AIM-7 and the Kowsar can carry it, it might actually make the Kowsar ugrade/new-builds program worthwhile. Would they have been farsighted enough to make sure Baz is compatible with the AIM-7 recessed launchers on F-4 and F-14 so it can be carried instead of the AIM-7?

PS: On another note, considering the recent russian transport flights from Irkutsk to Iran, has there been any hints, rumours, anything to suggest they might have delivered Su-30SMs instead of just more Yaks?

Well, at long, long, long, last...

I really did not think that I would get to see something like this.

Hope it does not go the way other Iranian hi-end weapons went.

What drew my attention was the English translation which inter alia noted ....... An image of an upgraded Doran F4 fighter jet, this version equipped with a radar, landing at Mehrabad. As it turns out, it is testing a missile similar to the Chinese PL-15, which is strangely loaded with an intermediate pylon........ .

Which radar might the poster be referring to?

And the new AAM?

Piet.

Good catch on Dowran Upgraded F-4E ... This aircraft has Bayyenat-I radar with A2A Search/Track range of ~150/120 KM. Designed for the launch of Ghader AShCM.

Seems like Arash AAM project has been re-branded as Baz AAM. I see no utility of it since Russian fleet in IRIAF wont use it and F-14A/AM, F-4E/D are gonna retire soon. May be local F-5 variants may use it.

SU-35S can easily lift and launch an ALBM version of Fattah hypersonic missile. Its somewhat lighter than Russian Khinzal.
